I'm curious, what are /k/'s thoughts on the Automag series of handguns?
>>
snowflake cartridge to have identical capabilities to a revolver.

Theres a 44automag for sale near me, he wants $4200. Yet another barrier to their success.
>>
I hear they are gonna rev up production again. I don't know if it's confirmed but in the Wiki it says they have plans to bring it back.
>>
Fukken sexy.

I'd buy one if they accepted 44 mag or 10mm

Already seen it. It's still in 44 amp.
>>
Good idea that failed because of its snowflake cartridge and "if it ain't broke, don't fix".

Also, Paul Kersey's gun.
>>
>>29769043
That's the wrong gun you dumb shit.
>>
>>29768792
They're very accurate and a dream to shoot, handloading is relatively easy since cases can be made from cut down '06 cases.
Personally I would never own one, too expensive considering a .44 revolver is just as good.
A friend of mine purchased one back in the 90's as part of his Dirty Harry fetish, don't get me wrong they're cool just not cheap nowadays.
>>
>>29769049
Oh, sorry.
>>
Is there any set date for the new AutoMags?
>>
>>29768809
>identical capabilities to a revolver.
No not exactly. Unless you have a .357 maximum laying around which is just as snowflake.
>>
So with defunct pistols in mind, does it piss anyone else off that AMT is back in operation without offering a 1911. They're owned by hi-standard for fucks sake but they're bringing back the Automag II and backup.
>>
>>29770284
Are you saying a .357 automag with a 6 inch barrel drastically outperforms a .357mag from a 6 inch revolver?

I understand there are some losses because of cylinder gap, but pushing a 38 caliber bullet to extremes isn't a great thing.

I don't know if was like this when the Wildey first came out, but it looks like Wildey is making a .44 automag now. At least according to their website.
>>
>>29770668
They were making the wildey in .44 auto mag before .475 wildey mag...

Neat for their time, but ultimately costed too much and had too many issues.

>>29768809
>identical capabilities to a revolver.
Yes, like the lack of a cylinder gap, a semi-automatic action and detachable magazines, very revolver-like.

>Yet another barrier to their success
You know they've been out of business for decades, right? They're expensive because they're rare collectibles.

>>29768852
I did hear someone bought the name and are looking to start up some sort of production again. Will be interesting to see what they'll do.

If they fix some of the flaws, and match production better with demand, it might go somewhere.
Would be interesting to see them revive .44AMP, but it would probably be easier for them to make them in .45 Winchester Magnum, which already does exist on the market in small quantities, and then hope the interest and business of the gun brings up demand of that caliber so it becomes easier to find.

>>29768950
Well let's see what they do.

>>29769043
Not gonna lie, the Wildey is probably a much better design than the Automag. I think they briefly had some production run again in the 2000's, even produced a "compact"
>>
>>29772196
Off topic but do you have a comparison pic like that showing .50 GI?
>>
>>29769093
>handloading is relatively easy since cases can be made from cut down '06 cases.
While true, not everyone did this properly. Even factory ammo made from converted .30-06 casings wasn't always done quite right, the brass would sometimes be very slightly too long or too short, which would lead to reliability problems.

>they're cool just not cheap nowadays
They weren't really that cheap back then either.

>>29770284
I think he's talking about .44AMP vs .44 Magnum

>>29770434
.357AMP is the .44AMP cartridge necked down to .357 caliber, it's a little barn-burner (though probably not comparable to .357 Maximum), it's quite a bit hotter loaded than .357 Magnum

>>29770357
AMC =/= AMT
You're thinking of Arcadia Machine & Tools, who made these pistols.
>>
>>29772240
I don't, but it's basically a .45ACP sized up to .50 caliber. Same terminal ballistics but MUCH shorter range.

It's kind of a disappointing cartridge, but I guess it makes more sense for competition or something.

I have one in .44 AMP. Its definitely an interesting piece. Since taking ownership I have yet to experience any type of jam or malfunction. I guess I'm lucky because most seem to have trouble going through a magazine without some kind of hangup. I just keep it clean and oiled.

Bought mine for $950 with one magazine and the original case.
>>
>>29768792
I love all of these "Built by a lunatic in a shed" guns of the 80s. I'd never buy one, but I like that they exist.

Well, do you make your own ammo? Because that'd probably be why
