The same as with every knock off.
But still, the best T-72 variant is M-84.
>>
It was produced 1971 as a low cost MBT.
>>
>>29754774
Nothing. It just can't and doesn't compete with modern Western MBTs.
>>
>>29754868

Mass-production began in late 1973, it was cheaper than the T-64 but definitely not a low-cost main battle tank.
>>
>>29754995
Neat graph. Where'd you find it?
>>
>>29754874
The B3 kit has basic network capabilities, night vision, better mobility, improved serviceablity along with updated firepower and armor. The night-fighting capability and networking already ensures it is a match for Leo 2A4s and M1A1s, which are the bulk of Western tank numbers, with comparably skilled crews of course.
>>
>>29754774
>Who needs passive thermals that can see through even basic smoke? Even though it's becoming a standard feature on the next generation of western tanks and even being retrofitted to other vehicles. Fuck it, lets just wait until 1989 before we die before we even consider putting them on.

Can you please explain this chart?

Thanks, this is interesting reading material.

Price tag in millions of Deutsche Mark (from 1984).

Colums come in two colors due to the fact that there were different sources.

>better mobility, improved serviceablity
The powerpack is still pretty much the old mechanical vacuum cleaner.
>>
>>29754874
Don't you mean it has poor protection against ATGMs? More T-72s lost to TOWs than M1s
>>
>>29755260
False equivalence, much more T-72s had been sold and fielded in actual combat than M1s.

Nothing. It's a fantastic battlefield tool, with the As being top of the line in the early 80s and the Bs being potent until the late 80s.

Small, fast, insanely rugged, very powerful gun and has the Slav reliability.
>>
>>29754995
It would be fun to see the T-80's price on that chart.
>>
>>29754995
The Leopard 2 was cheaper/(the same price) than T-72???

According to Steven Zaloga, the first T-80 model (not the T80B) had a unit cost of R480,000 versus 143,000 for the T-64A.
>>
>>29755618

Sources may be different.

It's also not specified which T-72 model (T-72 Ural, T-72A ?)
>>
>>29754995
that chart only consider production price
T-72 unit also received new ammunition and upgrade pack way later than T-64 and T-80
it is also cheaper to operate

M-84 Pride World Wide.
Interesting story of the 252nd "Invisible" Armored Brigade, Kraljevo (Serbia) 1999.
A few days after the start of NATO aggression, a decision of sending the 252nd Armored Brigade from Kraljevo to Kosovo. The march was done in a condition of absolute enemy air superiority and shows a unique example in military history. It reminds us of German tank transports towards Normandy, post the Allied disembark, except that in our case it was successful. Even earlier, the duty of organization of transportation was given to Potpukovnik (Rank, i dunno the NATO equivalent) Mladen Bozic. Still, the order to move came unexpectedly, and in 4 hours we had to fill "battle kits" and load the tanks onto transport wagons. It's a big deal of work, because when all the assets of the brigade would be put in one column, it's length would be over 60km. Exactly in 22:30h 28. March three compositions of wagons with M-84, T-72 tanks and BVP M-80 were ready to move. The first composition moves and then begins a four day outplaying of NATO aviation. One hour before midnight the first train is stopped in the station of Leshak (Лeшaк). There we were told that it's 7km further next to the bridge, a radio-locator was found. We were waiting a special crew from Kosovska Mitrovica for deactivation. Potpukovnik had strict orders for the transport to be done exclusively at night. Being 03:30h all ready, he knew that he could not make it to our destination in time, and he decided to hide all three compositions in tunnels along the railway. After a check of length of tunnels at the railwaymen, the transport moves on, without any lights and signaling, and that's a hard thing to do. In the air NATO aviation. Around 06:30h the first collum hid in the tunnel "Kula" (Кyлa) and the other into Pavlica (Пaвлицa) and the thrid into the tunnel Banjska (Бaњcкa).

Around 07:00 Potpukovnik Bozic goes to the station of Loziste where he contacts General Lazarevic, the Commander of Pristina Corpus, and tells him the detail of the transports as well as that the truck column of the 252nd Armored Brigade is all ready arrived in Lipljan. Lazarevic tells him that it's vital for the tanks to go to Liplan ASAP and then go forward to the region of Kline, and as far as the NATO aircraft are concerned it's irrelevant if the transport is done during day or night. Bozic informs him that the order is for the transport must be carried out at night, at which Lazarevic says "Wouldn't you look at that Bozic..". Practically all responsibility is left to Bozic, who taking into account the cloudy weather orders transport to Lipljan. The crews enter the tanks and transports, and are told to use a scattered formation if it comes to a NATO air attack. The other two trains are immediately ordered to enter the tunnels of the previous compositions. The next three days the brigade with all 9 compositions was transported to Kosmet (Kosovo) without any losses. In that way, one of the strongest YNA brigades was transported. It seems that even after all of different equipment and platforms used for scouting NATO forces did not discover the move, as they stayed in a guessing position even throughout April, as they tossed leaflets from the sky, in which it read, under a picture of a A-10 who aims at a tank, "Members of the 252nd Batalion surrender, our planes will destroy you." It seems that in NATO HQ it was thought that only one battalion was transported. Four days after the arrival of the brigade to Kosmet, all the bridges in Ibarska Klisura were destroyed. The members of the YNA that were all ready in Kosvo could not believe there eyes when the armored cavarly started to come off the train compositions, and with excitement and glee they saluted there comrades.

Wau, very interesting story, thank you for sharing!
So, were you a tanker?
I'm almost obsessed with the M-84. I recently bought two part manual PRAVILO TENK M-84 i T-72.

It was virtually untouchable for over 8 years.

I guess they really dropped the ball with that one. I wonder how they didn't discover the mass movement considering that they should had been able to spot it, night or not.

kekkest of keks, I love this revisionist history that the T-72 was anything other than shit and a blatant downgrade from the T-64
