Except how do you know in a real shooting that you're "finished shooting"? Just because someone falls down doesn't mean they're no longer a threat. Just watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkmpHow77KU. The guy who got shot dropped like a rock, so fast that 3 of the 4 rounds fired went over him as he fell. He survived the gunshot and and is expected to make a full recovery. If he had the desire to actually fight instead of being a huge wuss, he could have continued to be a threat. Stay aimed in on the threat because you don't know if they're going to stand back up or draw another weapon.
Furthermore, where the fuck do you expect people to jump out from to grab your gun? Are you fighting fucking ninjas? Where on earth is an additional second of full extension and follow through going to get your gun taken away? If you see someone then use a retention position. If there's nobody else there then fucking cover the real threat you just shot.
