Shotgun licenses are a shall-issue; its your right to have one if you don't have a criminal record, etc. and that enables you to own 12ga up to 3+1 capacity.
Firearms licenses are harder to get, but still very doable. Few hoops, but nothing ballbreaking. Have to justify having one, but target shooting is considered a legitimate reason.

I took an archery class last year, loved it. Mainly recurve bows but did some longbow and compound.

Bows got better, archers got better,and iron head wear with padding on the torso became common.
