What's the furthest distance you can shoot accurately using iron sights with the following rifles?

- SKS
- AKM
- Mosin Nagant M44
- AK-74
- VEPR 7.62x54R

Also which weapon is best suited for 500+ yard engagements?

vepr with full length barrel

vepr and nugget share ammo and practical accuracy. but the vepr with long barrel would turn out a better trajectory. so, yeah.
>>
SKS - Probably 200, mine has shit trigger.
M44- Mine is roughly handled but has a mirror barrel and reliable trigger, probaly near 400
91/30 round reciever- 200, the point of aim on these is a joke
SVT40- probably 200, these are not that accurate

this is the kind of environment I'm talking about

what kind of rifle of the above should a soldier carry? judging that the enemy is using 5.56mm NATO garbage?

Me personally?
>SKS
Like under 100 yards, shitty trigger, the stock feels horrible and the sights suck (at least thats how my Norinco is)
>AKM
Like 200 yards maybe.
>M44
I've hit steel silhouettes at 1000 yards with mine before, but consistently I can hit 500 yard silhouettes.
>AK-74
I don't know, never shot one past 100 yards
>VEPR x54r
I don't know, I've never shot one before.

>Also which weapon is best suited for 500+ yard engagements?
VEPR with a scope. Anything x39 isn't going to be very effective or easy to shoot past 400 yards.
>>
I'm farsighted and I can see further than the x39 can hit.

Funny thing is I don't even own any 7.62x54r weapons yet and i've been hoarding 7.62x54r.

Probably because i'm severely autistic.

>Do you guys think I could make a re-weld DP-28 build sub 2moa ?
>>
Not OP, but what ranges do you have to qualify at to get marksman in the muhreens?
>>
>>29723522
Never shot a VEPR, so I can only guess, but for the others I can reliably do 500 yards at a man sized target.
>>
>>29723668
200, 300, and 500. Can't remember if it's yards or meters though.
>>
>>29723603
>judging that the enemy is using 5.56mm NATO garbage?
Well, you'd best get some long range caliber like 6.5CM/7RM/338LM because 5.56 can still reach out to 1000 yds.
>>
>>29723702
of course it can, but what is most appropriate?
>>
>>29723739
74 of course.
>>
>>29723522
Personally?

At a man (or deer sized target) kneeling:

250m with a M59/66 and Brown Bear or better (it is picky)

Don't have an AKM or similar, only shoot other people's, around 200

I have three M44s, the best has the bayonet ripped off and lug ground down. Maybe 350-400 meters, depending on conditions

Never fired a decent AK-74

Never fired a VEPR.

I can hit a prarie dog at 200 meters iron sighted with my best M91/30 and have taken several dozen deer at "it's a fucking speck" ranges, over 500 meters. My two other M91/30s are fucking useless, with dinner plate groups at 100 meters.

The best weapon for 500-1000 meter engagements is probably going to be a GPMG in x51 or x54r, depending on how committed to Slavshit you are, short of going to a marksman system or a larger machine gun.

>>29723544
Actually, there's been a lot of people saying that the Vepr with a shorter barrel has better harmonics, giving better groupings.
>>
>>29723640
Tell ya what m8, you should just give me some of that 54r. Giving it to me would help cure your 'tism.
>>
Sks farthest I've gotten 300 yard (longs range I've been to with it

Mosin m44 500 yards

AK 74 300 (idk why but Aks for me are hard to shoot
>>
>>29723603
I'd go with 7.62 x51 you can pop targets easy enough and if they carry NATO rounds you might be able to strip them for more ammo
>>
>>29723603
A soldier should carry whatever is light, works and everyone else carries.

But if it's just one dude on his own, and he's not a shit shot, then he should be carrying anything 6.5 and up, and preferably in a full rifle length cartridge.
>>
>>29723603
7mm TCM is a good round for that. Basically 5.56 necked up to 7mm. best part is a simple barrel change to 5.56 and you're good to go with using your adversary's ammunition
