Does anyone own a scout rifle here, would you recommend it to someone looking for a quality 308?
Glib facsimile desu
My buddy has one. I like shooting it; it's a fun rifle for what it is, but I don't think the intended purpose is really all that great. I find it overpriced for what it is and a Marlin 1895 .45-70 would do everything that it tries to do, except better.

>Buying overpriced shit and not getting a better rifle for the price range.

Had one and sold it within a matter of 6 months, bolt was loose and it would jam every 5th round. Tried a few different manufacturers as well as hand loads and the problem persisted. Found a few reviews from others with the same issue, so it wasn't a miracle problem rifle.

My buddy's gun's bolt is fairly loose as well and it does seem to bind up a fair bit; I've found that I have to be a bit more forceful with it.

I own a Ruger scout and a Ruger American. There are barely any differences as far as performance. I actually prefer my Ruger American and it was half the price.
What I'm saying is buy a Ruger American for half the money.

>a Marlin 1895 .45-70 would do everything that it tries to do, except better.
This. If you need a rifle to put beeg boolet into beeg animal at fairly close range it's hard to beat the 1895 in .45-70 without getting into absurd safari calibers.
I got a Savage 11 scout recently. Shoots nice but the feed is rough.

Mossberg MVP if you want a scout rifle
depends what you want to do with it.
>>29718706
>I _really_ want one of those. It's basically a Ruger Scout or MVP Scout with a much better trigger, so I'm told.
I know it's not exactly a "scout" rifle but the Tikka T3 CTR is a close contender. 20" threaded barrel, 10 round magazine, pic rail and less than 1 metre overall length.
Not OP but are there any .308s with iron sights any one would care to suggest?

Tikka Battue
Light, good fiber optic sights, quick handling and accurate. I love mine. although the recoil is a bit stiff.
>>29718364
I am very happy with my savage 11 hog hunter in .308
Doesn't have a removable box mag or retarded long eye relief scope
>>29719489
>>29719489
>>29719499
That looks nice.
>>29719510
So does this one.
>>29719519
>>29719489
IIRC Tikka makes a Hunter version with a wooden stock and irons if you prefer that.
>>29719529
dammit Mossberg, just give me a Maverick 88 chambered in .308
but maybe loaded from the side, like a levergun
>>29718558
>the Steyr is 20 years old
>>29718364
The mags are craptacular, the base plate moves a centimeter forward every shot so I had to tape it down. It's nice and light, looks sexy but it has a rough feed, fails to eject shells sometimes and kicks like a fuckin mule. I wouldn't buy this gun if I could re-do.
>>29720053
close up on other side of butt, I reckon it looks alright for a homejob.
>>29720053
>It's nice and light
The Ruger scout is actually known to be way too hefty.
>>29720053
Last one, I'm worried my paint job has ruined my chances of selling it later on though. What do you lads reckon?
>>29720076
You did that yourself? It looks great. If I didn't know better I would assume it was a factory job. I doubt it would hurt the value much. What kind of paint did you use?
>>29720089
Thanks, I used Rustoleum spray paint, and a finish to stop the paint coming off.
>>29720071
I hadn't handled many weapons before I joined the army, so I'm comparing with fatass f88's and 89's
>>29719489
>tfw can't get the battue, battue lite, or super varmint in the US without paying absurd import fees
GODDAMN BERETTA, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.
>>29720053
be honest. you shot off the mag and fucked it up. i did the same thing with mine. dont shoot off your fucking mag.
Why not just buy a Remington 700?
>>29722473
This is why
>>29722473
Because unless your only looking for a donor action to customize, Remington is overpriced compared to similar quality rifles from its competitors.
>>29724236
And once again someone posts a completely irrelevant picture.
Of course a lapped barrel looks different. Both are equally smooth though.
It's a great rifle but a bit expensive for what it is
>>29718414
>Not saving up for an AWP
>>29720076
That is a tidy job. I think that it would be feature if selling it on.
What paint did you use?
>>29726965
I used rustoleum spray paint and a polyurethane matt coating to stop the paint coming off.
>>29719510
Mine
Plus a 7mm REM mag savage 111
