They did it with the F-17 didn't they? The F-17 lost to the F-16. But then later became the F-18.

Extremely low. He's dead jim.

A navalized Raptor would be better.

;_;
Too good for this world.

Given the huge cost of the F-22 I'm going to say zero, no one is going to want to fund that.

Why not sell to japan then?

The navy have the F35

Japan has developed their own stealth fighter

If the US was okay with exporting the F23 they would probably be okay exporting the F22, why would Japan want to fund F23 development if they could buy an already operational fighter?

Plus Japan is already funding their own X-2 fighter, if that turns into a failure they would have even less room to gamble on developing something new.

The YF-23 lives on in dogshit plastic model form. It's dead in actual flying airplane form.
>>
>>29715073
None. They have the F-35.

Remember, the YF-17 lost the Air Force trial. When the Navy needed a new plane they looked at the first place loser.

The Navy should have gone with a navalized version of the F-16, or better yet the F-16 XL.
>>
>>29715312
no it beat it in most key areas the decision was down to the commonality of engine with the f-15 and the cost difference for the marginal wins of the yf-17

>They did it with the F-17 didn't they? The F-17 lost to the F-16. But then later became the F-18.

The design is flawed. The YF-22 won out because it was less capable, but also less flawed.

The F-17 became the F-18 because the design was good, but not exactly what the Air Force was looking for. It was close to what the Navy was looking for, though, and that's what saved it.

Currently, the Navy isn't looking for anything like the YF-23. The Air Force has already found something better.

No they haven't.

Zero. Navy doesn't have the money. Currently, it's going to F-35s. In just a couple years, it's going to the Ohio Replacement. Further, Congress is looking at the possibility of adding a third Virginia per year, which would be another big drain.
