Don't get a balisong.

Buy a cheap $10 gas station one. Go through a few of those before you consider buying something like a Benchmade.

I have a BM 32, and while it's fun to mess around with, and the d2 steel blade takes a good edge, the novelty of using a balisong wears thin after a while (unless you are really serious about learning tricks), and then what you have is a regular edc folding knife, that's more bothersome to use than "normal" ones.

Plus - benchmade balisongs are way overpriced for what they are (you're looking at $200+ when you could get a higher quality folder for around $150), and non-benchmade balisongs are usually crap.

This, don't spend upwards of $200 just to find you don't enjoy balisong knives.

I bet you sliced you hands with a switch-blade too...

Got one from my cousin when I was 14, had it for 11 years now and I won't recommend it over other knives, it's just rather cool to do some tricks, it could be useful for stabbing someone but apart from that it's not really a good knife practically.
>>
>>29712235
I have a BM 42, a basilisk, and an early alpha beast balisong.

My favorite is the basilisk desu.

Don't pretend they're tools they aren't.
>>
>>29712235
I bought a $15 one in chinatown. put some locktight on the screws and it's good. don't get one for an edc if that's what you were planning, they're complete shit. they're just kind of fun to flip around.
>>
>>29713216
Plus it's illegal to carry them on your person pretty much everywhere.

It's so fucking stupid. I can carry a switchblade, but not a balisong. Even though a balisong is arguably less useful, slower to deploy and not as effective.
>>
>>29712235
Not getting one. They're a novelty and nothing more.
>>
>>29713340
>slower to deploy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Zi9-92i_RU

you can be pretty fast with a balisong. And they're not illegal everywhere - in Poland we can carry pretty much any knife - hell, I could legally edc a sword.

Plus - balisongs tend to have more useful grinds than switchblades, though still less useful than most modern folders.
>>
>>29712699
This,

A good one cost a couple hundred dollars or more. So you should only buy one if you're really into it.

Don't

Seriously, it's the fedora of knives.
>>
balisongs would make an amazing EDC because of the extremely strong lockup, but too many laws against them in too many places.
>>
>>29713497
>extremely strong lockup

or you could, you know, carry a fixed blade. Even stronger lockup.
>>
>>29713406
They're fast. But when you factor in grabbing it out of your pocket and orienting it correctly to flip, I think you'd be stretching it to say the balisong offers anything more than the most marginal advantage in opening speed.

I'm 100% I could get my switchblade or neck-knife out just as fast as any person with a balisong. Short of someone who has ridiculous amounts of skill.
>>
>>29713458
>nofun.png

Just get some cheap piece of shit from Mtech, OP. You're not going to use it for anything but flipping around anyways, though I do use mine as a letter opener.
>>
>>29713539
For anything around the house or inna desert I always take my fixed, but some people find it very useful to take folder and not take as much space on their person as a fixed.
>>
>>29713555
>MTech
Lmao. We sell the ever-loving fuck out of those at our shop

>hey man are these?
>"yea dood ams best knives ever very quality no break :^)"
>>
>>29713406
Or, or, you could get a spring assisted blade that takes no time at all to deploy and doesn't depend on being in an upright and stable position with full control of your arm.

>Unless you live in cucked state/country
>>
>>29713569
Mtech, the official knife of smoke shops.

But really though, I got a butterfly knife from them and it does anything you'd want a butterfly knife to do unless you're really planning to spend hours a day practicing, and even then it's not a bad place to start.

hey op, balisongs are awesome. ignore the naysayers, a well made balisong will be one of the best folding knives you'll own, with the strongest, safest 'lock' of any folder, past or present.

i own a bradley kimura and am very happy w it. i have the older model pictured, the drawback being its a bit on the heavy side. but newer models have cutouts along the handles to lighten it.

the only drawback to a balisong is that they are illegal to carry around, which sucks, because they would make perfect edcs.
>>
Get one of these comb-balisongs for 2 bucks from amazon. Great fun for the price!
>>
>>29713608
They seem like they're good for opening boxes and bottles. That's about it.
>>
>>29713406
I didn't watch the video, but I'm assuming it's just a quickdraw or something. no matter what, it's faster/just as fast but more reliable to open a normal folder.
>>29713497
they're impractical as fuck and get dinged up by the latch from flipping them. they're not as convenient to open, either. They're fun toys basically, but that's about it. I'll sometimes use mine to open letters and shit, because they're not even legal to carry on you outside of your house where I live.
>>
>>29713647
>they are illegal to carry around
I edc my 51 that I posted lel, they're totally legal because intent is what matters.
>>
>>29714531
because your state laws are the same as every state's laws.
>>
>>29712235
Buy a blunt balisong trainer for cheap and don't fuck up yourself or your knife. Practice on that until you're ready to spend money on an actual balisong.
