Why is 00 buck the most common reccomendation for defensive shotgun rounds? 0 and 000 buck both exist, but I rarely hear these recoomended. What is the advantage of 00.

It's common and works perfectly fine, offering a nice balance between pellet count and potency.

I use 3 slugs, then 3 birdshot. If I cant kill them with the 3 when they're in my living room/door area, then they're to close, in which case, ill rip their face off with the birdshot

It is honestly terrible as a defensive load. 9 pellets in a 2.75" shell with a normal wad, versus 27 pellets of No. 4, with little advantage in patterning at defensive range. Lower wound volume than No. 4 at close defensive ranges, but with worse penetration than a slug at longer ranges.
Where legal, it does work fine as a deer load. Easier to land on a running target than a slug, but penetrates better than No. 4. Useful to the 50-70 yards of sight you might have in a forested area.

00 is one of the most common loads, pretty cheap, and is readily available in bulk amounts. Like >>29711371, and >>29711412 said, #4 buck is really the way to go. I have a slug for the first shot then buckshot for the rest. My logic is that the first shot will be the only one I can take time aiming but the follow up shots might be at a moving target, another target, or with me moving myself.
