I wonder this often myself. Because what do you do when you run out of ammo or 'nades in a real fight? Sure, a knife would "cut it" but a sword is always greater than a knife.

Pun semi intended.
>>
>>29708771
You don't run out of ammo. The only people I know who ran out of ammo were two Marines caught in an ambush in Iraq. They dropped their weapons and picked up AKs from the enemy they killed. Then they went on and kept killing. All the while dropping weapons and picking up those from the dead, including RPGs.

"For extraordinary heroism as Combined Anti-Armor Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 25 March 2003. While leading his platoon north on Highway I toward Ad Diwaniyah, First Lieutenant Chontosh's platoon moved into a coordinated ambush of mortars, rocket propelled grenades, and automatic weapons fire. With coalition tanks blocking the road ahead, he realized his platoon was caught in a kill zone. He had his driver move the vehicle through a breach along his flank, where he was immediately taken under fire from an entrenched machine gun. Without hesitation, First Lieutenant Chontosh ordered the driver to advance directly at the enemy position enabling his .50 caliber machine gunner to silence the enemy. He then directed his driver into the enemy trench, where he exited his vehicle and began to clear the trench with an M16A2 service rifle and 9 millimeter pistol. His ammunition depleted, First Lieutenant Chontosh, with complete disregard for his safety, twice picked up discarded enemy rifles and continued his ferocious attack. When a Marine following him found an enemy rocket propelled grenade launcher, First Lieutenant Chontosh used it to destroy yet another group of enemy soldiers. When his audacious attack ended, he had cleared over 200 meters of the enemy trench, killing more than 20 enemy soldiers and wounding several others. ..."

Because weight, a sword is a lot heavier than a knife and you would need to carry a knife anyhow for other things.

Because using a sword to some effect without becoming a danger to yourself and anyone around you takes a lot of practice. A knife is easier to use.

Also, guns exist and we tend to carry enough ammunition.
>>
>>29708682
There are no tactical swords because we started sticking them on the end of guns and calling them bayonets, and then they got too long for close quarters fighting so they became knife sized.

>>
Some units in my country's armed forces carry machetes.
>>
>>29709157
Machetes are short swords. They are not """swords""".
>>
>>29710517
Machetes are tools, they tend to make lousy weapons, as in ugly but non-fatal or even incapacitating wounds, if you've ever treated one.

At best they work for severing a hand.

A saber, a cutlass, a gladius type are all far better weapons.

Machetes are made to cut light brush and vines.
>>
>>29708682
There are: http://www.millerbrosblades.com/
>>
>>29710577
Ever tried stabbing something with a machete?

The point tends to be sharp on many variations. Sharp pointy things tend to be fairly deadly, especially when they're short and easily maneuverable. Being able to cut vegetables is an added bonus.

The fact that you are even going to the point of classifying wounds as "ugly but not effective" shows the mental gymnastics you have to go through just to say that a machete is not a short sword, that it is any less valid of a weapon than a Roman gladius.

There's nothing embarrassing about carrying a sword in 2016. The mall ninja meme is being taken too far.
>>
>>29710674
You hack with a machete. That's that.
>>
>>29710674
Machetes tend to be very flexible, so they don't break when hacking away at wood and hitting hard things by accident, which means they don't stab worth a shit.

A thrusting weapon needs to be stiff enough to maintain the direction of force to penetrate well.

A gladius is a short, stiff-bladed sword that is practically worthless when used as a machete, but is nearly peerless when used as a thrusting weapon.

I am in favor of the use of swords, but a machete is a tool, perhaps a weapon of choice for niggers, but it is not and never was made to be a weapon for actual fighters and soldiers.

You clearly have never treated a stab or cut wound, and stabbing cardboard boxes does not count as experience.
>>
>>29710577
You obviously don't have a very sharp machete.
People regularly get their limbs cut off with machetes in my country.
>>
>>29710678

I use a machete all the time.
Would I try to kill someone with it?
Only if it was my only option.
On a side note, I do know a guy that was hacked up by a machete. Something like 47 times. A surprise attack from behind.
He lived.
>>
>>29710731

As they do in mine.
At the wrist.
A hand is not a limb.

I have never heard of or seen a leg or arm cut off in an actual fight here, while being held down, yes.

But in a machete vs machete fight, no.

I saw one patient that got a pretty good chop to the neck, he survived, paralyzed in one arm, but lives and functions well.

A machete is a lousy tool to stop a determined attacker, but the usual machete fight involves a pair of niggers flailing at each other wildly or posturing until one gets a hit in, then they both run.
I have a very sharp machete, to trim fucking tree branches around my house, what it is made to do.

I keep a cutlass next to my go to guns, because a sword is an actual weapon, not a nigger's tool.

Nope. They're tools. Most Machetes and machete manufacturers in the market only think of shoots and softwoods as their worst foes. Block a blow with a machete and its bent like roofing steel.

Traditional Filipino short swords and knives on the other hand were both bushcraft tools AND weapons of war.

I don't know about tactical swords but I have a strategic sword.

Basically the long story short is when I decided I was going to "transition" and started the hormones I had to start escorting to pay the bills and I started getting threats and needed to defend myself so I bought a Katana.

I figure of some John trys to mess with me I don't want to shoot him because the sound would alert the authorities so I will just use by Katana on him. For honorable self defense only.

Die.

No. seriously, he'd have to die.

since WW1, the VC has reserved for only the most extreme acts of bravery - one source in the 80's after the falklands said that it would only be considered for the VC if an action were taken which when assessed, was considered a 90%+ chance of death.

In WW2, of the 186 medals awarded, about 45% (81) were posthumous.

of the 18 VCs awarded since WW2, 8 were killed in the actions they performed.

Because guns have superior range and power. Now the next question you ask yourself is, did you get your money worth when you dropped a hellfire missile on this Bronze Age bitch?

Same here in PR. Either you go to Walmart and get a shit, overpriced piece of crap, or go to your local Ferretería or Agrícola for some locally made, cheap, quality steel

Only for retards, there is no reason to rely on a bladed weapon for combat even for close quarters when pistols exist with the power of stopping a charging man in their tracks.

Yup. Live in the countryside and take care of family owned plantations as a part time job. Lots of innawoods afterwards.
>tfw born too late to enjoy PR's federal minimum before the unconstitutional 2000 Firearms Act
I have all the woods to go innawoods, but I will never own an SKS at this rate. Hopefully the court case to repeal it gets to the US Supreme Court since out government appealed the judge's decision

Anything longer than 18 inches is too long and is more of a hindrance than a boon.

Good luck, man. With it being a territory I'm pretty sure the supreme court isn't going to give much thought on constitutionality.
