You have to go to know. I found a springfield loaded model for $450 at a gun show. I bought it on Saturday, went through the background check and 5-day waiting period and took it home from the gun store on Monday ten days after I paid for it.

My criteria right now is looks. Pic related trigger is my preference. just googled some guns 1911 seems to have this 3 hole trigger.
I will not be shooting a lot, it will just be for home protection and while rarely go to the range for practice.

I can guarantee you that MAC-10 pistols (or any clones) have been used in few crimes since the early 80's, when they were really cheap.
Besides, you wouldn't mind an old M1928 Thompson, would you? It's a fun kind of gun. I'm not saying you need to get one, but I think that you have an unhealthy mentality to guns like that.

I had an XD40 as my first handgun, sold and got an XD9, sold and got M&P 9, sold and got GLAWK 17, sold for 1911 and couldn't be happier. Wish I'd bought a 1911 right out of the gate.

If you are currently noguns, I would recommend a shotgun or a pistol. You can get an older/used Remington or a new maverick 88/hawk 982/ pardner pump for under 200. Simple, cheap, and will sit in the closet but still go boom when you want it to
