I like swords better than guns in theory.
You can use a sword to knock a gun out of the way and chop off someone's arm, or to sever their spinal column at the neck or back. It is more lethal and more effective.
However I PREFER guns, because you can shoot guns over a distance regardless of stance or footwork, so for example if someone comes at you with a knife you can get in a guard position on the ground and shoot while defending yourself from the knife with your feet.
Another example: If you have a gun drawn already you will probably shoot the person enough to seriously harm them before they can do anything to harm you with any kind of weapon.
Guns are better, but swords cause more lethal damage.
That being said, shooting someone in the brain can be even more lethal than severing their spinal column, but its harder to hit a head with a gun than a throat with a sword.
