Anyone here with flat feet? My ankle is pretty much on the ground and I wear custom inserts in my shoes. I already run 3-5miles 2-3x a week but without my inserts, it is a mini nightmare to do that kind of distance. If you have flat feet, what was your experience like at basic and in military life?
>>
Can anyone who was out of shape before joining the air force share some insight, advice, or stories?
I know it sounds weird but I need some support. I am planning on enlisting but I am still not in my best shape.
>>
>>29651034
I have flat feet. Done 8 years in the Army with no problems to include sitting in a cockpit with 50 pounds of gear on your chest for over 12 hours. Just make sure you but quality boots and take care of your feet.
>>
>>29651204
Thanks for the input. That is my biggest fear going in. I hear that I may not be able to take my inserts with me to basic.
>>
Is getting a SEAL contract super difficult. I feel like with the SEALs being all over the media people are joining like crazy. I want to do some sort of Special Operations, and as a surfer living next to the ocean, it seems the most appealing to me.
>>
>>29651162
What shape are you in now? Height weight and all that?
>>
>>29651310
I am 5'5 ~166cm
My weight is about 153
Body fat is maybe around 20%~25% I haven't ever properly checked.
Problem is more physical activities.
I am shit at running. My sit-ups are alright. My pushups are bad. I am working on it all but I guess just the thought of being shit in training is my issue.
>>
>>29651343
You're actually under your heights max weight limit. You can just go enlist right now. If you keep putting it off you'll never do it. Get the ball rolling with a recruiter and set the fire under your feet to force you to get better. Even if you dick around and go into basic as you are, the while point of basic is to get you in shape. Yeah it'll suck more if you're not in shape, but it's better than sitting around for months maybe doing some running and pushups here and there with no motivation.
>>
>>29651414
No I am actual in the process of doing so. I am on the way to MEPS actually for my physical. I was having second thoughts because people are always saying if you come in shape you'll easily pass basic and etc.
>>
>>29651439
I mean I'm still in dep right now so I can't really say how basic is, but when I signed with the Navy I could only do maybe 20 pushups straight, run a mile in like ten minutes and sucked complete dick with situps. But after a month and a half in dep I've improved to the point where I can pass the prt. Key is just to be consistent with whatever program you get yourself on and you'll make it no problem.
>>
>>29651482
Thanks for the support, man. I'm trying my best.
>>
Is being a nuke officer as shitty as a nuke enlisted? I was rejected for SWO and apparently I'm a good nuke candidate
I just want to serve already
>>
going to MEPS monday, taking ASVAB+DLAB later in the week. got an 89 on practice ASVAB so my recruiter is worried that my line scores wont be high enough for the MOS i want. i'm trying for 35M, if that's not available i would take 35F. he said make a list of 10 jobs i'm interested in. i cant really think of 10 jobs besides the 2 i posted that i'm actually interested in. I'd be ok with any 35series except 35P, so 35S/G/Q, but these have similar line scores to mike and fox. 12Y, same thing.
based off my interests, any suggestions?

>yes, somewhere on the list i will put 11B/18X
>>
When national guard inf gets deployed with 11b, do the nation guard guys get taken seriously? Are they hazed and such? I'd assume they would

>>
Does anyone know if they will let you take custom shoe inserts in? I am getting mixed answers and I don't trust my recruiter. I'm the flat footed guy from the beginning of the thread and running without my inserts is pure misery.
>>
>>29652309
I think you should make a list of the jobs you want and not put yourself in a situation where you get a assigned a MOS that sucks.

If you want 35M or F, put that. And if he continues with the "lol no you need 10" shit, find a different recruiter.

The military is going to fuck you for at least 4 years, might as well have them fuck you doing a job you signed up for and wanted
>>
>>29652309
here's what i've come up with, any experience with these jobs would be helpful.
>12M firefighter (longshot)
>12Y geospatial engineer
>15W UAV operator
>19D cav scout
>19K M1 armor crewman
>25B IT specialist
here's the one i really want
>35M Human Intelligence

>35F Allsource intel
>35G geospatial intel
>35N signals intel analyst
>35Q crypto network warfare specialist
>35S signal collector/analyst
>35T military intel systems maintenance/ integrator
>37F psyops

who has the best quality of life? who has the best prospects outside of the army after separation?
>>
>>29653084
I think they give you shoes according to your foot shape at basic
>>
>>29653130
he's just worried about my score. i'm not great at math, i've been brushing back up on algebra so i do better on the real test. my "high score" of 88 on the practice test is because i got all of the word and reading/paragraph comprehension 100%. the other kid taking the practice test got 42 or something.

If you want to know where or not you'll be a 11B or 11C this is the 100â„… absolute how it happens

The national fucking guard.

At 30th AG all 11x AD are together but, the NG who decided 11B or 11C is there too. If you have 11B national guardsmen in your inprocessing company you will be 11B. If you have 11C national guardsmen in your inprocessing company you will be 11C.

Ugg. I had a 2lt straight the fuck out of my former platoon in the 82nd. Out of all the regiments and companies, plus the platoons, I land this fuckwad in my platoon in ranger school. He had already failed once, LOMed once got banned from retrying but got a waiver and wa-la - he's in my platoon. He was the biggest fucking pansy ever. We just left his ass lying on the appalachian trail and signaled for an RI to come police him up.

What a worthless fuck. A super embarrassment to my former unit that - by the fucking way - merits much pride and accolades.

I lost my patience. Go sign a lazy ass boring ass contract, I do not care. They all suck, you will grow lethargic and be around fat girls who are whores, weird awkward nerds, overpushy NCO weirdos, stupid ass CSM and maybe even 1SG who have never deployed, and you will be around ex-infantrymen who got hurt and went POG and will hate you. As NCOs these are the best and worst. They will have no chill.

There is a plus I see to being a POG. Last week I had an intricate 45min conversation with our 25 series common guy. We talked about SKLs DAGRs BFTs and general common shit about his job . as an infantryman it is rare for me to find such intelligent people to socialize with imn this manner. Usually my nose is stuffed in the EIB handbook or I'm tackling a new guy and applying CATs or quizzing other joes when there's nothing to do.

>>

Batt medic is the BCO (Batallion Commanding Officer) medic. He will roll with the higher ups. Does medic shit. Of course if he's high rank he will lead all of the medics in his batallion. Medics are in a platoon / company that gets dished out to the line units, first aid station, and hospital. Batallion medic will be the one in charge of the medic company

35Q on both counts, but it is another tier above just "desk job". You won't just sit at a desk, you will make love to it for your entire career. If WW3 kicks off, even the other 35 series will probably be deployed to support line units with tactical intelligence. 35Q and the rest of cyber will remain stateside doing strat work in the basement. Fucking awesome if that's your thing, but don't touch this MOS if you want to do stereotypical armyman stuff.

Infantry poolee fag here looking for some guidance. >Applied for NROTC scholarship. Have 33 act, 90 asvab, great physical condition, even the interview went great. Get phone call to try again next year, Fuck that I'm going PLC.
>Call recruiting office and inform them I'm interested in PLC. Sgt. remembers me, generally friendly. Hands me off to someone who does officer recruiting.
>talk to him, says I meet all the requirements and I'm a steal to get. Generally butters me up.
>tell him I want aviation and he says with my 20/20 vision he can guarantee me. But only if I move to his AO. Tells me he doesn't like my chances in my current area. Does the complete salesman routine to get me.
>previous Sgt had forgot to inform him hat I do live in his AO and have since I was born, and that I was only away for college. I tell him I come back for the summer and actually visit regularly.
>this clearly surprises him and he checks with his commander to verify. Tells me to call him next time I'm visiting so he can set up an interview.
>I realize address he gives me for their office is same one I went to for the NROTC scholarship interview. Same CO doing the interview too. We hit it off last time so I'm pretty confident. 3 weeks to go, wish me luck. I better fucking get aviation...

What's your job in the military fagit? I got a 77

I made the recruiter checkem
>>29659970
Airborne missions systems (1A4, 1A3 is no longer used) is pretty cool I guess. All aircrew goes through the 344 TRS, so I knew a few. Pretty much a computer job that is on a plane desu, and working comms. I would go 1a9 (my job, gunner and flight engineer) or 1a2 (loadmaster) if I was going aircrew. That being said, the worst aircrew job is better than the best non-aircrew job. DO NOT go into security forces, materials management, or contracting (to name a few). Stay in the books during tech school. Aircrew training is long and challenging. My BSMAC (basic special missions aviation course) had a 75 percent fail out rate, the highest of any job trained at the 344th. (went in with 10 came out with 3, one of which was washed back from a earlier class) but it is very rewarding and we make fucking BANK.

Plenty of social time but I must say, some of the wildest times I ever had were on NG weekends. Once we were tasked with doing a 50 mile Escape and Evade over a vast wintery land during a 48 hour window. Out of pure coincidence, a member of my patrol had a family member who lived near the middle of our route. We hoofed it, made it there, 9 paratroopers and rangers stood outside of a suburban home in the middle of no-where United States and rang the door bell. Lots of nosey neighbors. His sister opened the door, brought us all in from the freezing temps, fed us hot chow and made us comfortable. We took showers, hung out in the hot tub and drank margaritas.

The next morning, we packed up and humped the last 20 miles.

Of course we all chipped in cash to cover our displacement.
>>
>>29661381

That's great; thanks for the story, did you like your time in the NG also how long were you in for?
>>
>>29661393
I really enjoyed my time in the NG. I spent four years as NG. My initial four years were active duty - infantry, airborne and ranger. My NG time was all LRS. In NG LRS, you're able to pick up real world assignments. Doing counter drug recon and conduction of aviation drug investigations. It's real world operations with either local, county, state or federal law enforcement. You typically train them on STANO. The money is great!

>>
>>29661719
No, the physical requirement is to pass your annual or no annual pt test, same as the rest of the air force. It is a MENTAL challenge. You get 13 college credits for BSMAC. You have to be smart and know how to multitask and study, and be willing to be either in class or studying most of the day. Be willing to go through survival school and be in training for up to a year (a year and a half if you are selected for CV-22s)

We are gunners/flight engis on AC-130s, UH-1Ns, HH-60Gs, CV-22s and we do a little work for the CIA on occasion. If you want in, good luck to you, it is a wonderful job that is critically undermanned, and there are 26 slots available in FY 2016. (26 slots to fill, they will bring in as many make it. Probably 260ish are selected a year to go through BSMAC)

>For the USAF, what is the general opinion of Secruity Forces Specialists and it's training?

So many teenagers trying to deconflict "join the Air Force, it has the best quality of life" and "the Air Force is all boring desk jobs" end up choosing SecFo. You're an MP for the Air Force, you will be standing around guarding bases.

>seeing if I could eventually throw throw it so far to do contracting work in secuirty way in the future.

I have an uncle that does "contracting work in security". Ever heard of Securitas? Mall cops? You start out making $9/hr~, and could even make as much as a whole $13/hr if you work your way up. Typical duties include standing at gates and "patrolling" properties at night (read: sleeping in your truck). That's what 99 % of "security contracting" is, not being a bodyguard for movie stars or escorting CEOs in Iraqistan.

Ask to speak to actual nukes and read more on reddit, all you get on /k/ are memes about nuke. After speaking to a few people I decided it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be, and a lot of problems seem to stem from people at nuke school being too immature and uninformed as to what exactly they signed up for. Getting to leave power school as an e-4 sounded nice to me too. Honestly have no idea what life's like as a nuclear officer though.
