Not to derail the thread but I'm going through something somewhat similar and I'm supposed to get a call about it later tonight regarding the court ruling. My grandpa passed on and left me his S&W 19. Nothing special in terms of guns or anything, but the aebtimental value on it is through the roof for me. I learned how to shoot on that gun and want to pass it down to my son when I pass. Problem is, his daughter (my aunt) ransacked his house for anything she could sell, including the gun. The only reasons I know the gun were missing was 1; I couldn't find it. And two, I found it listed on armslist for about $200. The gun is in pristine condition and has custom made cherry wood grips. I flagged the post and called the cops thinking someone had broken into my grandpas house and stolen it, but low and behold it's my aunt trying to get a quick buck. After telling her I would pay for the gun (stupid move, but that gun made me who I am today in terms of a shooter) she said no, she doesn't trust me with guns around my child, despite me having about 10 in my safe. I called her on her bluff though, and contacted a lawyer and am currently battling her for the ownership of the gun and resulting legal fees from obstruction of executor duties. Her claim is he left it to her when he was about to die conveniently when they were alone in the hospital room with no witnesses. Wish me luck boys, that babies gonna be mine one way or another.

OP here, just got home, my phone died, et c. so court is recess for today, and like i said before i can't go into any real detail about an ongoing trial, other than to say that both my half brother and step sister largely disagree with what's going on and have said as much outside the courtroom.
the total evaluated insurable amount is a little north of $580,000 which is what is in dispute. at least it's a solid idea of what it would insure for as i understand it.

I paid most of what I had left for the muzzleloader but I'd be damned before I'd let something that had been in the family for 150 years go.
After all was done my mother told all of my siblings and cousins she was going to keep the house to live in. 6 months later she listed it for sale. Well after all was done my siblings, cousins and I received a check for $175 with a note that was all there was to distribute.

When my grandpa died my aunt illegally sold his house, his car, his guns, his boat, his little airplane, everything for pennies on the dollar.
This was all pre-probate or whatever, days after he died of horrible cancer.
Five years later-ish and we're still in our court battle and I'll never see anything again. My best bet is everything she has is taken and sold in an attempt to replace what was given to me and my other family members in a will.
