Ok /k/ I've been an AK fan since I was into guns but I've heard that the 7.62x39 is either a great round against human targets or a terrible round against human targets, but better suited against barriers, body armor, etc. So my question is, if 7.62x39 is a terrible round against human targets (due to over penetration) then is the 7.62x51 (or .308) bad for human targets as well?
In theory x51 should over penetrate more than x39 would. Discuss.

Also not trying to shitpost about calibers

The red marks over that third round would be a pretty cool silhouette for a spaceship.

What country would have the best chance at actually getting a spaceship like that off the ground?
>>
>>29593162
China. You know it's those gat' damn Chinese.
>>
>>29593176
nah senpai, China would just make the parts. My guess is the Japanese would design it. And the meribros would buy it.
>>
>>29591534
could you elaborate? which way is this ship facing? sorry for the dumb question
>>
>>29593194
Not the guy who posted it, but I think facing right would look cool

This is mostly an artifact of bullet construction. 7.62x39 has more than enough energy to do significant damage to a human-thick target, provided the bullet can expand or tumble quickly enough upon entering the body.

The problem is that 7.62x39 (and x51) do not have enough velocity (and light enough bullet construction) to reliably consider fragmentation as a wounding mechanism the way 5.56x45 does, barring exotic bullet constructions. Expansion with a JHP/SP bullet seems to be the favored mechanism for most heavier bullets, which are not used by militaries. This leads to icepick permanent cavities with some military FMJ loadings.

Note that the muzzle velocity is still high enough in rifles over most pistol cartridges that even with a small permanent cavity, the temporary cavity can be large and severe enough to wound from stretch damage or in conjunction with minor fragmentation.

The reason people think it's bad is because ruskies used the steel core M43 round for their guns, relying on burst fire. A round like M67 does very high tissue damage on human target, actually, and against unarmored targets, a softpoint round will make a huge mess due to its energy.
