>>

From a utilitarian perspective, it would probably be difficult to rationalize buying one over a regular, fully featured AR15.

However, if you live in a ban state I see them as a great alternative, they look a lot better than neutered AR15s. I'd buy one over a Mini 14/30 if I couldn't have an AR15.

The only downside is that the BCG/buffer system is proprietary. It would be cool if they could find a way to make it so you could drop in your own mil spec upper, so that people in ban states could build a gucci upper and just use the Ares lower.
>>

>It would be cool if they could find a way to make it so you could drop in your own mil spec upper

this is not possible?

I heard the only issues with these was the crappy trigger.

They look fantastic, if AR-15s weren't restricted where I live I would buy one of these just because I like weird guns.

I read a review that claims the gen 2 version is much better.

You can use your own upper, and your own bolt, it just requires the pivoting carrier.

There isn't anything stopping you from making an SCR in .300, .458 or .50

Its an ARES SCR lower with some AR upper on it.
I'm gonna get one even though I live in a free state, mostly because I prefer the feel of traditional rifle stocks over pistol grips.
>>
>>29571290
Yes, you could put on an old M16A1 or GAU-5 upper and it'll work, as long as you use the Ares bolt-carrier.

Though it'll probably count as an SBR with the GAU upper.

This. They want to ban AR's and find any way to do it besides name. Because big black scary rifles kill better than old fuddy duddy wood ones.

A plinker's .22 ar 15 with accessories to them is a full auto child killer. An old bolt action is a perfectly legal hunting gun. An M1 is how you get them to engage double think and have a stroke.

>>
>>29576787
Thing is, they could look to ban pistol grips and bullet buttons too some day, but with this rifle, they CAN'T ban it, it has a rifle grip, so it HAS to pass, and they CAN'T ban semi-automatics or detachable magazines, it is literally a completely featureless rifle that can't be legislated away without a RADICAL change in the political landscape.

>Honestly just save some money and buy a Kel-Tec SU-16

Uh, you know the Kel-Tec is cheaper right? That The complete Ares SCR is an 700-800 dollar rifle and the lower by it self sells for 500?

Also you know the Kel-Tec is all polymer, not even a stainless steel skeleton receiver like a beneli super nova right? The entire rifle stock receiver and reciever is polymer and I can "squish" the whole rifle or flex the frame, I know because I just handled one today at my local gun shop.

Not Implying Polymer is bad or hate glocks, but the Ares SCR is Mil Spec Forged Aluminum.

What I will imply is that Kel-Tec products are hit or miss with their quality control and that I'd rather have a metal gun which is just as light weight as the Kel Tec, but Have something that allows me to use any AR-15 upper and AR-15 Accessories instead of having a plastic proprietary toy rifle with a pencil barrel.

So really >>29580260
Your statement should be hey just save money and buy an Ares SCR, or say hey, the Ares SCR is too expensive, buy the Kel-Tec, but keep in mind it's a plastic gun.
>>
is it normal to pay 500+ for a lower only?
>>
>>29580289

>>
>>29581107
ar57 uses a very non-standard bolt.
>>
>>29571225
How much does it weigh? I like long gun look, was thinking to get a Saiga but I like to keep things light.
>>
>>29580260
>>29580740
The SU-16 isn't really a -bad- rifle but it is concieved as budget .223 rifle, and this shows, it's more or less trying to take the place that the old Mini-14 used to, an affordable .223 autoloader.

The Ares SCR is however a radically superior choice (unless you're a poorfag, in which case the SU-16 isn't that bad, they're designed to be cheap, yes, but they're not Vulcan Arms tier or anything, it won't fall apart in your hands like it's held together with pritstick).

Kel-Tec aren't a thouroughly bad quality brand, thing is, they devote more or less quality depending on the gun. Their pocket pistols are made to lower standards and in larger batches, because they know that makes money (and you don't really need to spend a lot of money to make a blowback pocket pistol), the PLR-16, SU-16 and Sub2000 are made to a more coherent (but cheap) standard, and the KSG and RFB are actually quite decent.
>>
>>29575749
like a garand? why? just because its a military service rifle with wood furniture?
>>
>>29581186
Semi auto service rifle with wood furniture with an 8 round clip. Can be modded and or seperate models exist which are big scary salt rifles with 10+ mags and all kinds of tactical.

Asking them what makes an M1 a good gun but a socom a bad one makes them stroke out. At least the last time I brought it up they did.
>>
>>29581185
If you can get your hand on it.

Keltec 223 are picky eaters right?
>>
>>29581186
Because the Garand has none of the scary baby-killing features. It's got a fixed magazine, for one. Realistically though, the only offensive bit is the bayonet lug and 99 of 100 Democrats don't know what that is or where it's located.

The Ares SCR is the same. It has none of the scary features but can be easily configured to have most all of them. I'm personally torn on whether I prefer the SU-16 or the SCR.
>>
>>29581219
I heard they stepped up their production recently.

As if they're picky, I don't know, I didn't put any Wolf or Tula through it or anything so I don't know.
I never hear anyone complain about the ammo it eats, but maybe they just assume it's because it's cheap if they do.
>>
>>29581247
I seen it blown up cuz over pressure or ammo too much.

Keltec makes interesting stuff, but materials used seems flimsy.

wish they made a single tube KSG.

You can build an AR10 for damn near 400 if you watch sales.

So I would say 500 is high for a normal lower, most of the time the parts that people make high quality are in the upper.

>>29581121
Do you think a custom bolt-carrier could be made?

I think it would look like a really slick SBR if properly mated.
>>
>>29571013
No drum mag or bipod.

It's like your not even trying.
>>
>>29581137
Well I think the receiver itself is machined aluminum, like most AR lowers, and the stock is molded plastic, so it should be reasonable durable and light for what it is.
If you stick an aluminum upper on it, and use a plastic handguard instead of some needlessly weighty quad-rail shit, that'd be better too.

Also while the Nam style 20 rounders look rad, Magpul and Lancers are better quality and weigh less. H&K makes steel magazines, which are high quality, but they cost and weigh much more.

If you're in a ban state, there are various wedges and knicknacks for attaching two magazines at their bottoms (hell, you can even kick it oldschool and use tape, like Tony Montana), so a 10 rounder can have a 10 rounder on it's ass, and you can reload rapidly by taking it out and flipping it, giving you a capacity of 10+10+1, which isn't bad at all considering how the state tried to cuck you.

If you want to cut weight further, you can get a pencil profile barrel, but keep in mind that it'll get warmer faster and thus groupings open up faster, so accuracy will suffer more with repeated rapid firing, and you'll have to wait for it to cool down again if you want the groupings to shrink.
