Does grease prevent wear more then oil?
>>
>>29567347
On things like a sig, yes.
>>
>>29567347
Yes, because it stays where you put it.
>>
>>29567347

Physically yes it will, a thicker oil will as well, the downsides are it doesnt creep into tight spaces (sometimes you want that) and it attracts dirt more.

Just change the grease and keep it clean.
>>
Strongly considering grease on the bolt carrier track on my FAL.

It's a pretty tight fit that regular oil doesn't seem best for.
>>
>>29567382
some people claim some grease has additives that don't play well with aluminum, if that's a concern.

I would guess motor oil does too.
>>
>>29567382
What's stopping you?

Just get some grease, take her for a spin, and if it doesn't work out just wipe it off.
>>

>What's stopping you?

Basically a lack of recommendations. I've never put actual grease on a rifle before. Mostly for fears of things like >>29567404 brings up, but obviously there's no aluminum to fuss about.
>>
>>29567404

Yes. Certain types of grease soap bases are not compatible with some types of bearings. That's why wheel bearing grease is both chemically different and coloured different on purpose than say, axle grease or general purpose.

(In case you're wondering most industrial grease is a combination of metal-soaps ie. Lithium Hydroxide, additives and oil.)
>>
I'd buy a NGLI #1 or #0 grease, NGLI #2 (wheel bearing grease) is pretty thick.

Yay a lubrication thread,It's been about 15 minutes since the last one, guess its time for a fresh one.

Yes.

And?
>>
Use some of the Slip 2000 Extreme Weapon Grease, I use it on my AK and my M1A fucking loves it, and it is so much smoother.

Definitely want to change it if it starts getting thick and gummy.

>attracts dirt more.
no, it's not a dirt-magnet. whatever dirt lands on grease would have also landed on oil. the difference is that oil runs off, along with whatever dirt landed on it, and deposits that dirt in some crevice.

Can i eat and or fuck that?
Is it safe? Probably not but just asking.
>>

White lithium grease is what I use on my guns. Oil lubricates just as well, but it leaks down to one end of the gun and burns off quicker. If you use oil, you just have to apply it more often. I used hopes for ages without a single problem, aside from oiling my AR once a week.
>>
>>29567404
Most gas engine blocks are aluminum. Oil won't hurt it.
>>
>>29567347
I use Cherry Balmz grease exclusively on all my pistols and rifles. I love how I was able to put a rifle in long term storage(4+ years) while at school and have it function with no issues or loss of grease.

I've also used their Winter Balm in 1911s down to -5F and have had zero failures or any gumming up. My regular pistol lube during the summer is Ma Duece Lube. I've also used it in my AR15s but have since went with their AR15 specific Black Rifle Balm as it's a little thinner. Only 2000 rounds on my AR15 with Surefire 762RC right now but nothing but good things so far.

>eat
NO

>fuck
... I guess. Just clean it off right away after, industrial soaps (>>29567438) in grease don't play well with skin over long periods.

>safe
It won't explode if that's what you're asking.
>>
>>29569199

We're talking about grease senpai
>>
>>29569212
I just mention eat cuz It looks like tasty straberry jam/jelly..

I guess wear protection then...No glove no love rule.
>>
>>29567431

It's not fragile, it's a gun. Try it out and if it gunks up or doesn't work well, clean it off and go back to oil.
>>
I grease up my race guns given the fit and finish are typically a lot tighter than my milsurp or service guns.

My Sig X5 won't even cycle properly without grease... granted it's still within the 500 round break-in period.

>break-in period.
