Now that police departments are dropping .40 like an anvil, will .40 ammo get more expensive or start to dry up completely?
>>
>>29559775

R.I.P. in peace .40 cal

you will not be missed
>>
>>29559775
Looks more like police departments are dropping Glock brand Glocknades in .40 judging by your picture.
>>
>>29559775
>being so new to guns that you don't even know that some police departments get rid of their guns every few years, and re-buy newer models of the same gun.
Shit niggers, you're pretty stupid.

How butt blasted will the internet be if the army chooses a .40 cal handgun for the MHS?

Just wonderin'.
>>
Less capacity than 9mm and more recoil than 9mm for literally no tangible benefits. It will die out fast and rightly so.
>>
>>29559971
90% of /k/ would rush out to buy one, because they can't decide what they like for themselves, and just drool over military gear.

They won't, because of nato.

Nah, I carry 9mm, but I'm not dumb enough to think .40 is somehow a terrible round that needs to be ignored.

No it doesn't

But you're completely wrong and proud of it. It's sporadic at best. When there are differences it's marginal.

What happened to the endless supply of $350 LNIB Glocks that were around when the VP9 and M&P were competitively priced and Glock owners were ass blasted?

its not going to die for all its shittness 40 cal is the most successful handgun round of this century
9mm and 45 are all over 100 years old
>>

That is penetration through flesh you ignorant faggot.
I said barriers, such as windshields and car doors.
Stop being such a fucking moron.

>its not going to die for all its shittness 40 cal is the most successful handgun round of this century

What kind of backwards fucking pageantry is this? A round that was spawned from another round that was already a bad idea to begin with then condemned by the very people that wanted it isn't "successful"

If it was "successful" it wouldn't be rapidly approaching hipster status. If anything 9mm is the most successful round since it's managed to successfully overcome almost all of it's previous deficiencies AND change America's mind about it on the whole.

Notice the categories of "steel", "wallboard", "plywood" and "glass"? That's called a "barrier" a word you used earlier without understanding what it means because you have a blind, emotional attachment to your equipment.

"Barrier penetration" can be measured as the amount of 5% W/V ballistic gelatin that a cartridge will punch after driving through a barrier of controlled dimensions and composition. This is how serivce cartridge performance is measured with respect to "barrier performance" and it makes more sense than whatever fanciful scenario you have in your head where you're just shooting a barrier without trying to hit someone on the other side. Because that's a usefull fucking metric right there.

Please demonstrate your claim of "40 has much better penetration through barriers than 9mm" with some BS youtube video of MAC or someone equally unqualified picking his ass while I continue to empirically demonstrate with data from manufacturers and the FBI that the .40 vs 9mm barrier performance match is a toss up with inconsistent results and marginal differences when they do exist.
>>
>>29560142

This never happened.
>>
>>29560783
Yes it fucking did
>>
>>29560177
its successful because its still fucking there
sure its not 9mm or 45 but its not a joke like 45 gap or 10mm
better rounds exist but 40 is accepted as part of the big 3 in semiauto handgun calibers
>>
>>29559775
I imagine the cost of ammo might go slightly up, but it seems to have carved a niche civilian market
>>
>>29560783

I clearly remember claims of people saying that shit all the time. When the VP9 was released people were talking night and day about why would they want a VP9 when they can get a new or barely used Glock 19 for under 400 dollars
>>
>>29559775

This will be the new 9x18.
>only milsurp guys care about it
>price stays consistent
>almost immune to gauging and shortages due to normalfags abandoning it
>maybe not the best round or guns, but maintains a small following
>>
>>29560783
this happened in 2010 or 11 whenever the hell gen 4 glocks came out so a fuckload of posurp gen3 glock 22s were being sold at 300-350 range with dead or dying nightsights and no mag

Working on some 40s right now.

Outside of limp wrist manbabbys crying about snappy recoil, it is a good shooting round that also falls into a nearly perfect spot for uspsa and other gamer games. It makes major easily without any work, functions well and doesn't beat a gun to shit like 9 major or 38 supercomp might, and brass is dirt fucking cheap because everyone hates it.

It's nowhere near my favorite round, but when my department swapped to it I figured I might as well get used to it... and it has quickly grown on me.
>>
>>29562854
And those people were smart.
>>
I fucking love my M&P .40, I can always find ammo for it at a reasonable price, the round isn't too snappy for me (not a little bitch) and throughout all the scares I NEVER had a problem finding .40, even in walmart. Keep hating on this round all you fags want, I'll keep stockpiling at ease :^)
>>
Shooting 100 yards with my CX4 in .40 is fun. One I get my stamp back and toss a suppressor on there it'll be a lot more fun. Remember, 180 grain .40 is subsonic.

Ya know, as much of a faggot as this guy is, I had the same experience. Bought a .40 a year after sandy vag as my first gun simply because they didn't have the 9mm available.

Went to walmart the next day for ammo. Fucking nothing on the shelf except buckshot and .40. Returned every weekend as I got money to stock up on ammo, same thing every weekend.

Went to Dicks after a while because I hated where the walmart was. Same thing.

Now I know to shop online, but man I lucked out.

Pic related.
>>
>>29563426
That's part of the reason I was glad my CX4, and PX4, are both in .40. I was still going to the range and shooting hundreds of rounds when no one else could find shit.
>>
>>29563105

How does a pistol round to penetrate farther than 7.62x39 or 5.56x45 FMJ?
>>
>>29559813

Lots of M&P's in 40 showing up too

>muh glock grenade maymay
>>
No matter what caliber you prefer, when it comes to semi-autos, 9mm, .40, and .45 aren't going anywhere. All three have a big following in the civilian market.
>>
>>29559813
The gander mountain by me has a ton of used Sig somethings for sale, all in .40
>>
>>29563850
The .40 Glocks were the Glocknades. But I guess a joke sometimes is wasted on the internet.

>>29563912
Neat. Buy one.

Meh the 40 Cal was merely the caliber of choice for those who can't just pick a fucking bullet.

It doesn't do anything any other bullets can't do better...but it doesn't have any glaring faults that stand out aside from being the blandest thing ever produced.
>>
>>29559775
they'll sell off the existing stock and continue production until it's convenient to change tooling and there's no new contracts for the stuff. the new tools will be for more popular calibers, and some boutique manufacturers will continue to make them in defense loadings, but no more cheap bulk anymore.

it's what happened to earlier cartridges like 38 super, 10mm auto, 220 swift, and others.
>>
>>29564005

the fbi has a very short term memory, I hope their decision doesn't cost the lives of more of their agents...

>implying 9mm wasn't used unsuccessfully to stop the gunfight
>>
>>29564493
The guys had body armor that would stop any pistol bullet.
>>
>>29563796
Because 7.62 is smaller than 9mm and way fucking smaller than . 40
>>
>>29564522

You tried.

You should try reading a book next time.
>>
>>29563181

.40 is the minimum bullet size for making Major in Limited. for Open, the extra gas from 9 Major/38 Supercomp makes the compensator work, plus you can cram 20+ in a 170 mag vs like 16-17 for .40.

plus most guys in Open have a backup gun anyway.
>>
>>29562766
10mm is amazing though. It's near .357 Magnum capabilities in a semiauto caliber.
>>
>>29563465
why didn't you just stockpile thousands of rounds, ya know so you won't be affected by panics.
>>
>>29559775
I don't give a fuck except whether or not this will make 9mm ammo cheaper or more expensive.

>>29559971
I'll be, because I pay taxes and I would like the military to spend them on something will actually help (obviously, handguns are not even CLOSE to being the worst offender here).
>>
>>29565201
Because ever time I try to stockpile ammo I end up making a range trip and shooting all of it.
>>
>>29565242
>buy 5k 9mm
>shoot all of it in one range trip

I don't understand, is it even fun after 500 rounds?
>>
>>29565242
also don't let your fag friends mooch off you for ammo. If somebody wants to shoot with me I make them pay for ammo.
>>
>>29565267
Problem is, when I when I buy ammo I go and shoot the ammo. Very little self-control there. Only thing I've been able to stockpile is 7.62x54R because I don't like shooting it. So I have three sealed crates of it.

I do have a few 1000 cans of 5.56NATO that are still sealed. And few cases of 7.62Warsaw as well.

But for small, fun stuff, like 9mm and .22LR, I can burn through that like it is nothing.

I have a PS90 that is just barely over a year old and it was over 2000 rounds through it. My almost 3 year old 556XI has close to 7000 rounds. I shoot a lot.
>>
>>29560090
Thats pretty much my plan. Probably gonna be my worst case scenario B.O.B gun. I have other guns that I vastly prefer but the idea is pretty damn practical, especially for something I can just leave packed up for eternity.
>>
>>29559775
>Now that police departments are dropping .40 like an anvil
Got a source for this, besides your ass?
>>
>>29564518
Because no matter how many times someone brings that up, it doesn't automatically mean it's a viable solution for everyone.
>>
>>29564522
Ya, nah

In terms of weight, 7.62x39 has about the same range as 9mm bullets, but with a smaller diameter has a greater sectional density. And it has a lot more energy. It penetrates a lot better than 9mm hands down
>>
>>29559971
Hand guns aren't even relevant in warfare though.
>>
>>29560031
America is NATO retard
