You won't get a lot of posts ITT OP.
You see the AR10 successfully harnesses the raw power of the 7.62 NATO cartridge. It's a cartridge designed for men, powerful handsome men. They don't even sell it to manlets and weebs. With the ammunition costing more than 39 cents a round hardly anyone from /k/ can afford to shoot one more than three times a year.
So unfortunately OP, you have to go to places when grown men talk about real rifles. Places full of strong good looking fellows, fellows who know their way around a women and enjoy fine whiskeys. You will also meet men who love the well designed HK series rifles chambered in calibers that have some actual stopping power, maybe some SVD owners. But stay away of those ranting about semi auto battle rifles chambered in 7.62x54r...their minds are mostly ruined by the cheap vodkas they drink from the moment they wake up in the morning till they fall asleep nestled with their rifles in a corner of the canteen.

I'm legitimately thinking about just building an AR10 as my first AR. I've fired a handful of AR15s and I like the layout, but I think consolidating calibers is a better idea for me. That way I can one caliber, one set of optics, one good trigger while also covering my hunting and long range kicks

The DD5V1 has changes to the BCG, barrel, barrel nut, charging handle, and controls to improve reliability, durability, and accuracy.
People have been shitting on it for the price but if you can get a solid discount to ~distributor cost at 2300-2400 it's basically a KAC SR-25 with better furniture at half the price.

That DD5 looks pretty sweet, but I can see why /k hates on them. They are expensive, and to be honest if I ever do get a 762 AR it will probably be something I will really want since it would be the only AR-10 I would be able to get.

I have a S&W M&P10. Got a great deal new in the box, haven't done much but put decent glass on it and a bi pod. I'm not the best shot in the world but a couple guys I know get out past 650 yards with it real good. I think the ammunition plays a big part on consistency.

I still can't believe the deal I got, walked into the local LGS and asked what he was asking and he low balled it out of the blue.
The guys who really get something out of the rifle all hand load. I'm happy putting ten round in a paper plate at 300 yards but these people are fanatical. I just don't have the time to get that good. I need to get into reloading someday. I have all the brass I would need just about for ever.

Most AR-10 designs were not tested extensively and were not exact clones of the original Armalite design or the KAC SR-25 design so a lot of issues resulted. The M5E1 is notorious for small parts breaking for similar reasons.
