I have a t-shirt that reads, U.S. Army Ranger. It doesn't have wild graphics on it or loud messages. I agree with you, that is too much. But mos and unit identifying apparel opens up the opportunity to interact with other veterans who may have done your job or served in your unit.
I don't wear vet hats and shirts for recognition. I wear them to meet other veterans.

I like to sport unit identifying shirts and hats. Granted they aren't neon, blow-up-in-your-face boasts but they are evident. I' not some flamer. I prefer to be as conservative as possible. However, the desire to meet and interact with other vets is something I will continue to pursue.
