Not for long. Our gun laws have become progressively worse since 1997, when the Tsarist gun law from the 1880s was reworked to better fit EU standards (i.e. made more strict). The 2007 and 2011 amendments to gun laws made handguns much harder to get (2 years certified shooting required) and also installed a mandatory safe for anyone owning more than 5 guns. In a few years time, gun safes will be mandatory for all gun owners, mark my words. We don't have any form of carry (CCW/OC) either.
Oh, and licences are only granted for collectors, hunters and sport shooters - self defense is not a valid argument for gun ownership in this shitty commie state.

Yes our laws are restrictive, but they don't totally ban the things. Unless you have a conviction and you can show reasonable safe storage and handling (which should be something you'd want if you want to own a firearm) they are extremely unlikely to deny an FAC application.

If you come over on a work visa, even without a green card (permanent resident card), you can purchase guns just like any other american. All you need is an incredibly easy to get hunting license. There are a few states that do not allow temporary residents to buy guns, but I know for sure that California of all places does allow these folks to exercise the 2A.
Glocks, 1911s, AR-15s, AKs. Whatever you want. The hunting license is just a formality really, it doesn't limit the kind of weapons you can buy whatsoever. (however if you're under 21 you are limited to rifles and shotguns of any type, no handguns until 21).
