Interested in finding a semi automatic rifle chambered in the 7.62x39mm round.
I'm looking for something with a wooden stock and at least 15+ round capacity.
So far:
AK pattern rifle - simple, cheap, good enough
????
The purpose of the rifle is sport shooting with the occasional deer hunt thrown in when my friends invite me out to their ranches.

I'm not looking for fancy, I want functional;the Casio G-Shock of guns if you will.

Thanks for your time
>>
AK is for hunting men, not deer.
>>
>>29520469
It's gonna end up being boar mostly I fear. All of West Texas is chock full of 'em
>>
>>29520434
ak and mini-30 are about your only options. and dont pick the mini-30.

there are x39 ARs as well but most people dont like them.
>>
>>29520520
SKS isn't an option?
>>
>>29520705
I really don't like the idea of stripper clips and a 10 round internal magazine. It's been a nagging thought but I'd really like a larger magazine so that I can be lazy when I'm shooting.
>>
>>29520960
Well it sounds like you know what you want. Get an AK I guess.
>>
>>29520960
Find a Norinco Sporter. SKS that takes AK magazines. There's also those SKSs that take those ugly magazines.
>>
>>29520434
The CZ VZ58 and VZ2008 are better rifles than kalashnikovs. They shoot 7.62x39 and have thirty round magazines and better ergonomics.

czfag reporting in, this guys a fuckhead.
I like vz58s, but to aay they are better is retarded. They are more accurate but not after 4-6 rounds down the pipe. More ergonomic I guess but more complicated and less realible. Also less common and less part/aftermarket availibility

Now this is relevant to my interests. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.

>>29521108
I'll look into those, however if what >>29521292 said is true about them being more complicated; I'm rather curious how complicated the AK platform can really become.

As for ergonomics eventually I'll be fitting my own hand cut and sanded stock. So it'll ultimately be tailored.

I appreciate the information, thanks guys
>>
>>29520434
Why 7.62x39? It's not a very good round.
>>
AK
VZ58
Mini 30
SKS w/ milsurp 20 round mag, or duckbills if you're feeling faggy
AR15 w/wood stock
HK/PTR 32

>They are more accurate but not after 4-6 rounds down the pipe.
Lolwut, what kind of shit tier ammo are you using that your barrel is fouled after 4 rounds? Shooting my D-Technik VZ58, I reliably group better with wolf than the same ammo out of my friends Arsenal ak.

>More ergonomic I guess
Idk about you, but I like having a fucking LRBHO and a not conscript-tier trigger on my guns. Takedown detent pins are also a pride point compared to the AK's shitty having to compress the mainspring to release/reattach dust cover design.

>but more complicated
Wow a shortstroke piston and striker is "complicated" now? Its only 2 more parts during disassembly which, btw, increase accuracy.

>less realible
I've had more malfs with SKS's and AK's than the VZ. Unless youre sticking your dick in the path of the bolt carrier or you have a shitty PSA century vz, you're probably doing it wrong. Or are we drinking the "AK's never jam" kool-aid?

>Also less common and less part/aftermarket availibility
This part is true though. Imo, if you want aftermarket, buy an AR.
>>
>>29521354
It's ballistically identical to .30-30 and that round has put more meat on the table than all others combined.
>>
>>29521707

Are you retarded?

No, it isn't.

You are an idiot.
>>
>>29521710
>It's ballistically identical to .30-30
no. but both work great up to medium game normal hunting distances
>>
>>29521730
orly, care to share how having less moving mass, particularly out of the axis of the bore decrease accuracy?
>>
>>29521769
Care to show how it increases it when the only things that matter for accuracy are bolt lockup and barrel dynamics?
>>
>>29521776
i hate to argue with freedom gets but hes right. theres a reason semi-autos are inherently less accurate than bolt actions.
>>
>>29521810
We're talking the difference between short stroke and long stroke pistons, champ.
>>
>>29521776
the rearward moving mass generates a thing called "recoil" which throws the barrel off target.

Pistons a pistons a piston

Short stroke vs long stroke makes zero difference

Hell, it could be argued that you can mostly free float a long stroke whereas a short stroke has to ride in a slot
>>
>>29521814
>the rearward moving mass generates a thing called "recoil" which throws the barrel off target.

Holy shit this nigger thinks recoil decreases accuracy

Meanwhile they make semi auto 50s
>>
>>29521828
tell me, genius, how can enough pressure be built up to move the bolt if the bullet has already left the barrel? the bolt begins moving before the bullet has left the barrel. there are very few semi-autos where this isnt the case and they are known to be extremely accurate
>>
>>29521856
if the bolt had unlocked before the bullet left the barrel, the case would explode

See: case rupture
>>
>>29521818
you realize that recoil begins the millisecond the cartridge is fired, through its travel time in the barrel, during which backpressure is used to impact the energy needed to cycle the weapon into the gas system, then diffuses once the bullet has cleared the barrel

you literally need the bullet in the barrel to begin cycling the fucking gun, this is why you need a bfa if youre shooting blanks and dont have the actual bullet to create a pressure seal

now youre just making a fool of yourself, go to bed

i didnt say it unlocked, i said it began moving. by the time the piston has moved the bolt enough to unlock it, the bullet has left the barrel and the pressure has returned to normal.

AK is the correct option.

>Casio g-shock of guns

Get a WASR-10. $600. If you're buying an AK in 2016, it is the only one you should even consider. And that's because it's an AK. It does AK things. It goes bang, it hits what you aimed at. They don't have quality control problems (anymore), they're stupid reliable, it doesn't have any stupid design choices that limit you or require you to unfuck the rifle. It's as accurate as any proper AK is.
>>
>>29521938
then explain why bolt actions are more accurate than auto-loaders
>>
>>29521955
because they have nothing attached to the barrel, they have smooth and even lock up on it's lugs, a much stronger receiver to barrel attachment, firm bedding into the stock, perfectly aligned bolt to barrel, squared receiver, squared bolt face, shorter lock time, and I'm forgetting a few others

This all assumes you didn't buy a Remington which has none of these things, of course

My AR pulls .5 MOA, while my friends Remington won't even pull sub 1
>>
>>29521970
If you have an AR that will shoot .5 MOA consistently, then you are in the uber vast minority of AR owners. Most ARs are 1-2 MOA guns with good ammo and a good shooter.
>>
>>29521978
>If you have an AR that will shoot .5 MOA consistently, then you are in the uber vast minority of AR owners

Didn't know PWS barrels and Hornady steel match were so impossible to come by
>>
>>29521970
im sure neither the inherent accuracy of bolt actions nor any of those things are related to the fact that theres a large reciprocating mass attached to the barrel of an auto-loader. you know, completely unhindered by several forces interacting at different points of the gas system and bolt before the bullet has left the barrel.
>>
these are all real great arguments about accuracy guys....but what do they have to do with recommending OP a weapon
>>
>>29521990
>im sure neither the inherent accuracy of bolt actions nor any of those things are related to the fact that theres a large reciprocating mass attached to the barrel of an auto-loader

By your argument you could use an AR with adjustable gas block and shut it off and it would suddenly become more accurate

You're fucking wrong
>>
>>29522049
>By your argument you could use an AR with adjustable gas block and shut it off and it would suddenly become more accurate
this is partly correct. you would see a shift in POI and your rifle would be slightly more precise.

>>
>>29522076
fewer moving parts is more conducive to precision. deal with it.
>>
>>29521852
But recoil does throw you off target
>>
>>29521978
Then I would consider that to be a case of most shooters not knowing how to shoot and not knowing what their rifle can do
>>
>>29520960
No offense but that's dumb as hell. Stripper clips take arguably less or the same time and effort to load than mags, they are lighter and less cumbersome, and unless you're making Swiss cheese out of car doors or something then 10 rounds of x39 is plenty. Especially for deer, boar and the like.

A vz58 is easily my top pick, especially if you use a fixed stock instead of the folder. The folder has it's own MAJOR perks when it comes to using it though vs other folders, can provide webm demonstrating if necessary.
It's just lighter, more comfortable, and even easier to break down and clean than an ak, especially the gas system and anywhere that would be effected by corrosive ammo.
>>29520960
>>29523130
Then maybe still consider a vz58? It has 30rd mags and stripper clip feeding so it's easier to carry ammo comfortably. Again, I have a webm demonstrating it.

I'll just post the webms anyway. Starting with stripper clip speedloading.

vz58 Folder.webm
1 MB, 500x326
And the folder stock whips out as you raise the rifle. I use my gun a lot as a vehicle gun, so it's very handy to have it just swing out after hitting the button compared to needing to baby it from start to finish like most ak folders.
For a wire folder, I actually find it quite comfortable too. It has nothing on a fixed vz stock, but is much better than a wire or underfolder ak stock.
