I gave my daughter a daisy red rider for her fifth birthday.
We took it out side where I had set up a cardboard box with a target stapled to it at ten yards.
We went over safety, the parts of the gun, how to aim and stance.
I than thought her how to load and fire BBs.
We shot for an hour until I was confidant she could handle the little rifle safely.
I changed the target, gave her a box of a thousand BBs and told her to call me when she had enough.
I went inside and got a coffee than sat on the porch reading a book and watching her.
An hour went by and she was still shooting a round every fifteen seconds.
Two hours and she stops, puts the gun down and runs inside. After a bit she comes out with the first aid kit and asks me to dress her blisters.
She has rubbed the top of her fingers raw from cocking the red rider.
I rubbed in some peroxide and covered the raw spots with band aids.
The kid went back to shooting and I went for another coffee.
When I came out again the target was at twenty yards and she had to turn it minty degrees because two faces of the box where shredded.
Another hour and she finally stops. Run out of BBs.
She is now six and can shoot from all positions, right or left handed and is as accurate prone unsupported as firing the red rider off a bench rest.
By family tradition she does not get a rim fire of her own until she is twelve but she shoots my 10/22 some times.
