Seriously? Do you just pour into the tumbler?
>>
>>29506178
about a cap full every other load, run it for a few minutes before adding brass to allow it to work into the media
>>
>>29506156
I use this or just the standard meguiars cleaner wax... Add in an old dryer sheet cut into strips to remove some of the dust and dirt... I pretty much only wet tumble range brass now and dry tumble just to remove lube...
>>
>>29506245

What type of media do you use? I buy lizard bedding from PetSmart... its the same walnut shells.

How shiny are the casings after NuFinish?
>>
>>29506314
Not him, but I just bought the kaytee walnut bird litter which is essentially the same thing but it was a little cheaper when I bought it... 7lbs is half gone after about 3 years... It does have a little more fine particles so just dump it from like a couple feet up when you pour it in the tumbler to get rid of some of the dust.
>>
Nufinish is great.
>>
>>29506314
I deprime my cases using a universal depriming die, then run them through an ultrasonic cleaner to clean off the carbon fouling. After drying the cases, I size the rifle cases using a FL sizing die. The cases then get tossed into a tumbler with Zilla Lizard Litter + Nu Finish. They get pretty shiny. I keep them that way by not handling them with my bare hands while I charge and seat bullets.
>>
>>29506121
>>29506178
Something about the shiny new bullets is mesmerizing.
>>
>>29506390
Get Zilla Lizard Litter. It's a finer grain and less likely to get stuck in flash holes

Meh... I bought a rock tumbler and 2.5lbs of stainless media and never looked back...
>>
Question to the lizard bedding guys. How often do you change the media?
>>
>>29506753
Since my brass is fairly clean when I tumble it to polish, my media last a long time. I lost count on how many loads it takes.
>>
>>29506929

thanks

Nah, I'm happy with the lizard bedding. Just want to polish the cases. Shiny, pretty and chrome...

I don't know what the hell to do with that kayak... Can't hang it on the wall and can't stand it up...
>>

hang it off the ceiling like all normal people

This mang. What do you think rafters are for.

Hint: it is personal boat storage.

If that doesn't work, build a shed. Having an extra shed is great.
>>
>>29507853
Garage door is in the way... I'm getting married in a month so maybe a shed would be a good idea...

Just put together a list of what equipment I think I would need to start reloading.

To start I would be interested in 30-06 and .223, and I would want to move into .308 and a few handgun cartridges eventually.

Just put together a cart on Midway and it came to $970. Am I on the right track here?

Lee Powder Funnel 22 to 45 Caliber
Frankford Arsenal Impact Bullet Puller
RCBS Shellholder #3 (308 Winchester, 30-06 Springfield, 45 ACP)
RCBS Shellholder #10 (17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 223 Remington)
MTM Universal Reloading Tray 50-Round Plastic Red
Loadbooks USA "223 Remington" Reloading Manual
Loadbooks USA "30-06 Springfield" Reloading Manual
Lyman "Reloading Handbook: 49th Edition" Reloading Manual Softcover
Lyman "AR Reloading Handbook" Reloading Manual
Hornady "Handbook of Cartridge Reloading: 9th Edition" Reloading Manual
Hornady Cam-Lock Case Trimmer Kit
Lee Chamfer and Deburring Tool
Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Rotary Case Tumbler 110 Volt
RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Single Stage Press
RCBS X-Die 2-Die Set 30-06 Springfield RCBS X-Die 2-Die Set 223 Remington
RCBS Bench Mounted Primer Pocket Swager
Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispenser 110/220 Volt
Hornady Dial Caliper 6" Stainless Steel

Will take recommendations. Know I can probably find the information in the load books online but not worried about it.

I already have a copy of the ABCs of reloading.

What did I fuck up?

You have a lot more than you need here. Lose the manuals and books. Bullet puller is not a necessity. Neither is a case trimmer. Digital calipers are better. Trickler might help, since dispensers are not super precise. I dont even know what swager is. Sure never used one and I reloaded thousands of rounds.

You need case lube and lube pad.

HTH (OP)
>>
>>29508441

Ah, forgot lube because I was going to do the home made Dillon case lube trick and just do batches of brass in plastic containers with it.

Fairly sure for bottlenecked cartridges I will need a case trimmer.

And the swager is to remove the crimp from primer pockets.

Wouldn't be worth bothering if most of my brass didn't have a crimp on the primers.
>>
>>29508470
Case trimmer is useful for many cartridges, anyone tell you not to get reloading manuals is a dumbass.

That being said, the single caliber books are pretty unnecessary.
>>
>>29508535

I know the info is online, but the more information and cross references I have the better, right?

Also been looking for some good M1 Garand specific information. Wish there was a book for it. But I can print anything I find out.
Are there any glaring issues in my system? I should probably get another scale of some sort I guess just to confirm. Perhaps a balance beam scale. Maybe a powder throw. I have high hopes for the dispenser though once set up right, because I'm not trying to make absolute precision loads.
>>
>>29508535
>anyone tell you not to get reloading manuals is a dumbass.

oooh. big words. care to elaborate? what sacred knowledge one can find in books that I cant google on my phone, while taking a shit?
>>
>>29508592
The Hornady manual already has Garand loads.
Under the 30-06 service rifle label in most books.
>>
>>29508592
>but the more information and cross references I have the better, right?

No. Unless you are doing some super precision benchrest 1200 yard F-class bullshit, all you need is one powder weight. Write it on a post-it and stick it above your press. Done.
>>
>>29508607

Excellent. Thank you for the tip.

>>29508614

I thought it was more so I could confirm safe load weights for powder, as well as OAL and things like that.

My stratemegy would be to read up on the load I want to build, then to write the load information down on a notecard or in a note book.
>>
>>29508614
You must be the dullest nigga alive

Variety is the spice of life, and powder supplies vary in availability. Furthermore, some calibers just do not preform well with some powders, and it can vary even more by gun or bullet.

Seriously, reloading without experimentation is flavorless. Git gud.
>>
>>29508593
Enjoy your out of date manuals, failing to support the people who innovate the sport, half assed claims on fudd tier websites, only ever using hodgens and IMR powders, not having an impressive bookshelf of radical manuals filled wwith fun pointers, not being able to lay out multiple books with the caliber you are reloading to compare and contrast instantly to find the best load for your needs, and also being a fucking scrub.

>Fuck you captcha, a quiche is not a pie.
>>
>>29508636

Dude, suit yourself. You want to spend hundreds of dollars on books, you'll never read - be my guest. I bought two, and NEVER read a page.

Every powder manufacturer's website has all the data you need. There is no need to cross-reference or confirm it. +/- 0.3 grain make no difference in a plinking round. Dont exceed the maximum load and you'll be fine.

fuck your Gucci hoity-toity shit. I reload to shoot, not to amass

>impressive bookshelf of radical manuals

The only way to find the best load is on the range with the chrono, not by laying out books, you gunless cuck.
>>
>>29508729

>thinking that a .3 variation won't lead you into exceeding the max

Normally reloading threads are good.
Not this one.

Also, as a final point before I hit the hay, to any new/potential reloaders lurking, take EVERYTHING here with a grain of salt, then throw it away. Most people on /k/ are here to shitpost about their raifu more than they actually know anything.
>>
>>29508342
Die sets come with shellholders. Yes you do need a case trimmer, and the metal satern powder funnels are nicer. You might prefer the turret press if you intend to do mass quantities of pistol or .223, because you can have all your dies set up at once.

Also I highly recommend the blue frankford reloading trays, they are dope and universal trays suck.
>>
>>29509088
Only Lee dies come with shellholders.
>>
>>29508441
He will need a case trimmer for .30-06. Also a bullet puller is great to have around and costs almost nothing.
>>
>>29508593
Load data for a similar cartridge that would work in what you are loading
