Looks cool and are no longer made. They have been in a couple of franchises, like ghost in the shell (not that model in particular)
The worst part is when they debuted nobody wanted them. CDNN, a company that does lots of closeouts, bought up the whole stock and was selling matebas for $600-800 each. Some dude bought damn near all of them and sat/ is sitting on them. This wasn't even all that long ago either- mid 2000s I think.
But by all accounts, they aren't trash either, but it's mostly novelty that drives interest and price.
