Sick of my nugget and .303 is still way too expensive to shoot. I recently decided to take a chance on an 1895 Chilean Mauser converted to 7.62x51 because milsurp plus common/cheap ammo.
Anyone own one? What low powered .308/x51 is safe to run through it?

But why though? A shittier propellant never existed. All that pressure and heat for no good reason. And all the British .303 from around WW2 I've measured has been in all kinds of wacky dimensions with .309 bullets being the norm and cases all over the place. I highly doubt any colonial Cordite was better.
SA R1 M3Z and Greek HXP were god tier though, the former even had the lightened nose in the bullet.

I have a 1895 rifle that was rebored for .308 and the chamber reemed for 7.62 RFN (real poor job on the chamber reeming). Even with her defects she is one of my better shooters.
If you are looking at the carbine, the chamber issues I have should not bee a problem since those have replacement barrels, not rebored. Also don't listen to all these know nothing anons about having a pipebomb. Small ring Mausers are still as strong of an action as any Enfield action and people don't hesitate to shoot their ishapores. I would just advoid heavy hunting rounds and you should be fine.
