why do ruger 10/22s cost so much now

i'm pretty sure most of em used to be around $100, now every gunshop I go to wants $300 for one that's tacticool'd to shit, and even the simple classic wood finish ones are like $200

what happen
>>
it's called get a marlin 795 because rugers suck
>>
>>29486249
Basic 10/22's MSRP is like $250 IIRC.

Takedown is ~$350.
>>
>>29486270
I remember it being so much lower...
>>
Every once in a while an online distributor like Bud's will blow them out at $199. I actually saw $179 not too long ago somewhere.

Your mistake is that you want to buy a gun from a brick and mortar store. They inflate the fuck out of everything. Thanks to online sales their time is dying, and they're trying to stave it off.

I genuinely can't remember the last time I went to a gun store for any reason other than to pick up a transfer. Maybe high school?
>>
>>29486249
I think even Marlin 60's are up to ~$300 MSRP, with ~$260 market.

cheap, accurate as fuck, reliable as hell, no magazines to buy, holds plenty, easy to clean, slick underside makes sling carriage comfy as fuck.

I think I have 8-9 I've picked up for 60-70 bucks over the years, my oldest being a glenfield "Western Auto parts: revelation" which is a tack driver still.

All the 60s I've shot have been out of the box, stupid accurate little guns.
>>
Pretty sure at work we sell base model 10/22's for like $229
>>
>>29486994
A gun for $60? Where do I get one?
>>
>>29486985
lower quality thanks to freedom group

recent marlin rimfires are a miserable excuse compared to older marlin rifles

that and 10/22's have more aftermarket options meaning you can do EVERYTHING TO THEM

EVERYTHING

the 10/22 is a tad pricier but youre going to be getting a quality firearm, if marlin was still making quality guns then the marlins would be a fine budget option

the lack of decent magazines for marlin that go above 10 rounds is also an issue

>marlin 795
Clip fed and lighting fast, the rugged, economical Marlin 795Rifle has the wide appeal that's made it a winner. This easy shooting autoloader features an 18'' blued barrel with Micro-Groovev rifling for proven Marlin accuracy shot after shot. A black fiberglass-reinforced synthetic stock with molded-in checkering provides a sure, solid feel while shooting. Swivel studs for a sling. Cross-bolt safety. Manual and automatic ''last shot'' bolt hold-open. Adjustable open rear and ramp front sight. Receiver grooved for scope mount.

THIS
Is why I got a 10/22 as my plinker.

Granted, I didn't actually do much to it other than polish the bolt and replace the extractor.

Like the rest of he thread has stated, any actual store (not online) is going to jack the prices up significantly. I gave up on 10/22's simply because I didn't want to buy one online and couldn't find a decent one near me for less than $200.
>which is what I believe most of them are actually worth

Ended up just getting an m&p 15-22. Felt like if I was going to spend hundreds on a .22, it might as well be something a bit different than the typical 10/22, model 60, etc... And because I know if I really wanted one, Marlins and rugers are extremely common.

>>

how about i gander up that mountain, baby...
cmon...let a real man hit it...
>>
>>29487182
I literally just "take a gander" at their inventory, leave, and find it at my lgs cheaper. Just some examples-

>used gp100, over $600
>beat to hell, canted sights I.O. 5.45 AK, they want $600+
>870 tacticool, $700+

Lgs:
>have two gp100's, different barrel lengths, both the same price. At least $100 cheaper than Gander
>no I.O. AKs in sight
>sigh of relief
>tacticool shotguns don't come over $5-600 for really decked out setups...

Sad thing is, people will buy shit like that. Every time I'm anywhere that sells guns it's all "clips" and "muh first gun, let me drop the slide full-force about 60 times and say I don't want it."
>>
>>29487172
most shops arent jacking prices, Ruger is.

Cost on a 10/22 is already $200, we sell em at $230, people think that shops make a shit ton on guns, we make like 10% usually

some shops have stopped carrying Taran Tactical, mainly because recently they upped item cost and dropped MSRP, so our margins on that stuff are fucking awful

Wait for a sale. I bought my 10/22 NIB for $170 off PSA.

The bolt has the 50th anniversary logo on it but it's not a 50th anniversary 10/22 so I dunno what's up with that.

I meant mainly "big box stores," not local shops and whatnot.
I just couldn't believe they wanted essentially $200 out-the-door for a marred up piece of shit 10/22, when in all reality, that's what a brand new base model goes for.

>forgot to mention another abomination
>bubba'd arisaka
>mounted in some kind of sporter stock
>looked like bakelite and peanut brittle had a baby
>bedded with what appeared to be wood glue
>applied with bubba's sausage fingers

Almost bought the thing just to see if I could return it back to somewhat normal condition... Except gander fuggin mountain wanted like $400 for it; plus the risk of other unforeseen bubba mods.
