Why would you pay money for an outdated piece of shit with limited historical value.

whats the intended purpose? Collecting?

so just this other day I bough an unissued no4 mk2 from Fazakerley factory, still in mummy wrap. Last batch of enfields ever to be made on english soil
>>
>>29485516
enfields are very capable firearms anon
>>
>>29485617
Capable of what?

They are bolt action and heavy chunks of metal and wood.
What situation would you want an enfield over a R700 or an AR15

I am not saying that they are in the same league like AR15. They are a fine bolt action weapon with a very fast bolt. This is an enfield appreciation thread and you came here to bash it, I don't see the point of that
>>
>>29485633
i can only hunt in my state with a few calibers, .308 being one of them, and i wish to own an enfield. i am also a poorfag (or jew) who doesnt want to buy a hunting rifle and the enfield when i can just buy one.
>>
>>29485607
Forget the name but a British company kept production of No4 rifles right up through the 90's. Something like Parker.
>>
>>29485658
i just dont understand the purpose or intended uses of tgese rifles
>>
>>29485672
you're thinking of parker hale, but they only did conversion of several thousand enfields to .22 caliber. Last work on enfields was done in 1992, a sniper variant, L42A1. However actual production ceased in july of 1955 in ROF Fazakerley
>>
>>29485712
SNIPER VARIANT WHAT
>>
>>29485712
Nope.
This comapny was making all new No4 rifles for the hunting market right up to a few years ago. They still exist but are now making Rem 700 clones.
>>
>>29485499
whats a fair price for a no4 mk1/2 (made in maltby 1942, ftr'd in 52 at fazakerley) with a excellent bore and 80 rounds, plus 160 once fired brass? What would you pay because I want to sell my enfield and upgrade to something better.
>>
>>29485697
I never buy issued milsurp, I always pay good money to get that unissued example, in my case no4mk2. This is a 1955 made and then stored rifle. I got it to enjoy its superb bolt action and indestructable operation pretty much, canadian rangers still use it(to be phased out soon). So, plenty of contemporary uses for me, and there is just something raw about cycling that bolt like a fucking man, not to mention how aesthetically pleasing I find wood, metal and bolt
>>
Where could I find and Ishapore and how much would one cost. What's essentially an SMLE with a detachable magazine gives me a hardon.

>>29485772
can one of you answer my question here? >>29485746
>>
>>29485736
I cant find any mention of actual from the scratch production, please give some sauce if you have it. All the sources I have state that production ceased in 1955 with the exception of poo in loos
>>
>>29485774
Dude i'm pretty sure the no1 mk3 has a detachable mag. As for finding a 2a1, look around for consignment pieces locally.
>>
>>29485796
it will depend on the buyer, but between 400-500 if its in a good shape. Sounds like it has interesting history
>>
>>29485799
I'm on the wrong computer for that. They still had some small parts last time Ichecked but were otherwise out of the Enfield business.
>>

That's not bad for being hand written.
The butt socket was stamped. The sidewall was usually electro penciled/engraved.

I hate to ask, but where do you acquire the information or references to recognize these stampings, on mu rifle they're almost unreadable.

just about between 300-400 no more i think, non matching stock is what kills it unless it was done during FTR for which a cartouche needs to be visible

post actual stampings and il try to help you identifying them. It will be easy if its a strayan smle.

unfortunately no, shoots high and to the left, tried holding over but it can be unpredictable. Thats partly the reason why it's my least favorite milsups, at this point I want to get rid of it and bring in a k98
>>
>>29486701
Yea sell it for $400 and upgrade yourself. From my personal experience(assuming you like mausers) you will be very happy with first series M48(all milled)
I could go on and on about these rifles as I'm very familiar with them but I have 2 because I like them that much. Almost a carbon copy of K98 which are a hit or miss depending on when they were made, while all m48 are made post war, never issued, and by a motivated population
>>
>>29486788
I already have an m48 and argentine 1909 fampai :), the ride never ends. I got the enfield to see if I liked them, its sights definitely blow the hell out of the mausers sights but I miss shooting my m48 (havent bought ammo for it in a while).
>>
>>29486888
Yea micrometer sights are top notch. Sorry to hear about your enfield, mine is a tack driver(as good as it can be for a battle rifle)
>>
>>29486973
My m48 with m75 ball ammo is my tack driver. God bless the now non-existent yugoslavs.

Do you mean AIA? They were making modified reproductions in SE Asia.

I don't really know when production stopped in India and Pakistan, except that the Pakistanis bought British tooling for from BSA Shirley and ROF Fazakerley in the 1950s and the Indians produced SMLEs on old British Empire tooling until the mid 70s, but production in North America ended before the war and production in the UK ended in 1955. After that date no new Lee Enfield actions were ever made in the UK.

Target and recreational shooting in the UK has always been closely tied to the military, and there were numerous companies and individual gunsmiths that took Enfields, particularly No4s, after the WW2 and made them into target rifles, hunting rifle and other customs. They bought them up as surplus in govt deals. This is where all the H-Bar target rifles and Parker Hale stuff come from, all the regulated rifles etc. Both .303 and 7.62 conversions. Many were rebuilt and refinished from the ground up with civilian stocks too.

Even the police Enforcer and military L42 sniper's rifles were just rebuilt No4s produced from '41-'55, same with the Cadet rifles. I believe the police rifles were done by Parker Hale and the military armourers rebuilt the rest.

That's just the furniture maker's mark. They were wartime codes for individual, contracted, manufacturers. Most Enfield butts have a maker's stamp there.

For example N 74 and SL or SL 74 were all maker's codes for William Sykes Ltd which was some kind of carpentry/joinery/furniture manufacturer in England that was one of the firms contracted to supply stocks. You can look it up with some googline.

Dunno what the SOU/2 is.

Its hard to understand when you aren't actually trying, but officially
>adopted as a reserve arm by the Indian Armed Forces in 1963.

Now it's not a service and it's for sale on the civilian market so it's purpose as you put it, is to do whatever the he'll the end user does with it. Personal taste is very real and the 2A1 still fires very capable and available ammunition. There is nothing more for you to understand.

Getting my beech butt stock soon for my No. 1. After I bleach that and put a couple costs of satin poly on it, my de-sporterization project will be complete. When I started that endeavour, I didn't realize that Australians used Coachwood, so I had some mismatched wood parts. Regardless, here's a sideways pic of it with its mismatched pieces.

Enfields are great guns. But dontr spend more then 400 on an SMLE (Unless its a Lithgow) and like 500ish on a No. 4 (Unless its a Long Branch). There are two versions of the Carbine the No. 5 and the No. 6. But I have never seen a No. 6 in the states and the No. 5 is faked alot. Get yourself a nice No. 1 MKIII* and a couple hundred rounds of ammo for about 600
