What's with the recent trend of people eschewing thumb safety's? Is it just trying to be "edgy" by discounting a basic safety feature?

there just is not a need

Because guns aren't fucking 1911's anymore, fuckboy.

Some people just don't know what glock leg is

Some looked like a tard at basic training when they didn't flip off the M9s safety on pistol day

Some people don't understand you can keep the safety off on your CC piece and the gun gremlin won't magically put it back on right before you need to defend yourself

Safeties only exist because of military contracts. The only safety you got was half cock before we got automatics.

Trigger safeties make perfect sense. It's one less function to fiddle with on the gun and you literally can't engage it to fire unless your finger is on the trigger. It's the epitome of modernity in firearms safety.

Probably bait but whatever.

The general thought behind modern handguns is that safeties just get in the way. That's why we're seeing such a big shift to passive safeties (like Glock/Springfield XD) or no safeties at all.

If you keep the safety off all of the time, then what's the point of having it on the gun?

>Glock leg
Practice practice practice. Muscle memory will take over when you are in a full blown panic state and you will not accidentally your femur by twitching your trigger finger.

I want a gun on my nightstand with a chambered round but don't want an accident. Think about setting a book, tablet, or laptop down and hitting the trigger on a 3.5-5lb striker's SA trigger and causing an ND.

Not a fan of thumb safeties on strikers at all though, fuck OP's pic. DA/SA + decocker like M9/Sigs and backstrap safeties like the XDM/1911.

>setting a flat inanimate object down on a gun
>somehow object reaches inside the trigger guard and pulls the trigger
Wat

They aren't needed. A holster prevents the gun from being fired. Once it is drawn, you are in the same position you would be in if you had disengaged the safety.
Some have a habit of engaging when you don't want them to.
One more piece that fails.
The only safety you should rely on is the one between your ears.

Not that they're bad, but there are reasons people don't like them.
>>
>>29470539
But if you keep the safety off on your gun, and do the same thing, won't an ND still occur? Seems more like you're arguing for a heavier trigger weight.
>>

A tablet or book hitting the trigger as you set it down won't put 8+ pounds of force on the trigger, at that point the guns moving unless you're unlucky enough for it to be wedged at the absolute worst angle against the wall or a lip on the nightstand.

See above, between the force of the moving object and the weight of a loaded gun exerting 4 or 5 pounds of force on the trigger is nothing if you mistakenly hit the trigger with the edge of the tablet or book.
