I was looking into getting my first bolt action rifle and I had my eyes on pic related, any other suggestions /k/?
Expect to pay $2-300 for a moist nugget these days, and you could probably get a Mauser instead at that price range.
However if you enjoy the history of the Mosin then by all means get one.
>>29468721
Thanks /K/ommando I will look at some Mausers, but I might still go for the nugget
>>29468745
What are you looking to do with said rifle?
>>29468745
The ammo for the nugget costs almost what 8mm mauser does. And the nugget is the worst bolt action I've ever shot. Nearly all modern bolt guns copy the mauser action, so that should tell you something
>>29468792
>The ammo for the nugget costs almost what 8mm mauser
when will this meme die?
>>29468721
A mosin at southern ohio only cost $185
>>29468815
It's dependent on location and the availability of surplus, so anon may be speaking truth. In my area nugget food is still $0.30 cheaper per round though.
>>29468815
New production costs around the same as 8mm surplus and 54r surplus is only slightly cheaper.
>>29468692
Just get a Mauser second hand for way less
I got my Yugo m24/47 for 100 (came with a bayonet and 100 rounds of ammo on stripper clips)
And my M96 Carl Gustav Swedish Mauser for like 250
it was made in 1899 :)
>>29468745
For the brice of a regular nugget you may as well just get a quality M39 or M28 Finnish rifle.
>>29468692
Nice mosin is nice but most likely you'll get a not-so-nice unit that will have issues with rimlocking and sticky bolt. It takes some work and knowledge to get mosin to function smoothly.
I'd get a mauser or better yet any modern bolt action.
At least you can't lose the bolt head on a mauser (and then go on and blow your face off with a gun that's missing half a bolt and then come and bitch at my shop you fucking genius (damn fucking right I'm salty)).
>>29468788
I need some satisfaction
I heard /k/ could teach me how
One word: Enfield
>>29468792
My nugget is more accurate than any of my enfields or my k98
>>29469571
Go fuck yourself
Lebel masterrace
>>29469686
I hope you're full of shit, or you have the absolute worst examples of your other rifles
My mosin with surplus ammo doesn't hold a candle to my:
1917 Enfield
1942 & 1943 & 1918 Lee Enfields
3 m1 Garands
1903 a3
K31
But I do kinda like that it doesn't shoot dollar bills
>>29469571
Can you still pick up good Enfields? A lot of the ones I've been seeing are wall hangers.
>>29469724
While awesome, a Lebel would be a poor choice for anyone who isn't a Frankaboo.
Love mine though.
ITT: We forget that quality and accuracy on old milsurp rifles depends much more on the condition and individual manufacture (year, country, etc) than it does on the actual model, and instead pretend like our anecdotal "well /mmmyyyyy/ [insert milsurp]" is any indication of quality that can be expected from any given version of that rifle.
The important thing is to inspect the rifle you plan to buy and do some research on what to look for. Nuggets aren't the most graceful or easy to use bolt action rifles, but if you can find one in good condition with matching parts there's no reason it can't be a decent gun.
>>29469814
Don't know about burgerland but you can still pick up nice Enfields in britistan for the equivalent of $400-$500
>>29469811
I should clarify that by nugget I mean M39. None of my other milsurp guns shoot as well as my M39. Could be a good pairing of ammo with the gun tho. My k98 has great rifling but only manages to shoot minute of man at 100 yards with modern ammo. Enfields are a lot better but the M39 can shoot 1 MOA all day.
I've been looking at something similar.
>1944
>All matching
>Comes with (matching) bayonet
>Bore looks bretty gud
>No wobble in receiver
>Doesn't look like it was finished by a monkey with a belt sander.
For $100 more though I could get a Brazilian 1908 Mauser. Mauser ammo is almost double the cost of nugget food where I live, but I have a friend who insists that it will be a night and day difference between them.
His nugget sucks though, so I'm not sure he has a fair comparison (mismatched, wobbly reciever, probably made in a factory that was actively being bombed at the time of production)
Either go with a Yugo Mauser or Savage Axis, stay away from nuggets. I hate mine.
>>29469963
>hue guns
>>29469811
They're service rifles, you shouldn't expect great accuracy from any of them. 2 moa is about the best you can realistically expect.
>>29469963
>Wobbly receiver
Just tighten your action screws. This can solve a huge portion of the "accuracy problems" people have with Mosins.
>>29470085
>Made in Imperial Germany
Vs.
>Made in the Exalted Union of Glorious Soviet Democratic Socialist Happy Republcs
Can't imagine there'd be any difference in quality.
how often do m91/30s get restocked at classic firearms? when was the last time they had some?
>>29471880
They've gotten "The Last Shipment EVER!" about 5 times now. Give them another couple months; I'm sure they'll dredge some up in time for the election scare.
>>29471915
i hope so
im looking for a mosin right now and i dont want to pay 300 bucks for one
the auctions on gunbroker are dominated by like a couple sellers rn and they arent willing to sell any 91/30s shy of 200$ from what ive tried
>>29471915
>>29472999
im trying to get one for cheap because im a poorfag 18 y/o so thats why i cant dish out much more than 200$ for one
K98 or what kind of Mauser are good guys?
>>29473032
>im trying to get one for cheap
Haunt your local pawn shops, gun shops, yard sales, estate sales, and live auctions. That's the only way you're gonna get a nugget for under $200, once you factor in shipping and shit.
I bet next time Classic has any in stock they're all going to be $199 or more.
>>29468890
Cabelas has them for $170
>>29469571
>One word: Enfield
muh nigga
So I've been thinking of expanding my bolt action collection with a Lee Enfield, but the big problem is I live in a fucking shitty state like Lousisana, so almost any Lee Enfield I can pick up has been bubba'd to fuck and back.
Is it worth ordering a rifle online and driving a 5 hour round trip hours (I live in BFE Louisiana), or just getting a bubbad rifle and trying to restore it to its default configuration?
>>29474473
I was in a similar situation. All the lee enfields in my area's gunshows and armslist are bubba'd to the point of no return. One day, I got lucky and snatched a nice savage no4. mk1* off of themosincrate (dot) c o m (pic related) and I couldn't be happier.
Worth it?
>>29468692
Something to keep in mind with the nugget is you cant get cheap ammo for them any more.
It will be expensive to shoot now.
>>29468890
>>29473729
2011 has them for $80 with bayo, oiler, sling, ammo pouch, and helmet.
>>29468692
SOG still has the cheapest Mosin's.

>>29469926
Same here in Australia. A decent (though probably not matching) Lee Enfield is about $500.
French MAS 36 is the best looking WW2 bolt action rifle to me, but I've never shot one so I can't tell about the performances
>>29468692
Get either a Mauser Kar98k, or better yet Vz. 24. Their action is far better, and the stripper clip ejects automatically, saving you a lot of time.
>>29468692
Alternatively, get one of those new CZ beauties. If you can afford it.
>>29475408
but they are only going to get more expensive. If anyone wants a nugget and its food and hasn't got one now is the time to buy.
>>29469571
>6 feet long and weighs 20 pounds
