Every time I see games recommended on /k/ it's always PC titles like STALKER and ARMA saturating the lists.
Call me old, call me poor, call me a backwoods hick.
I've never owned a computer that could reliably play games more advanced than emulated SNES titles.
I've never had any luck installing or playing a computer game from a disc.
I don't have an internet connection in my own home.
Even if I could get it to work I'm sure I could never get used to using keyboard and mouse touch pad controls.
tl;dr what are the best /k/ approved console video games?
What console? As far as realistic they aren't too on point but the weapons are nice and the gameplay is fun so I always recommend farcry 3 and 4, additionally the scenery for both is gorgeous

Your best bet to kill maximum time is to get games that take forever and a day to fully complete, like the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. Farcry 3 and 4 are essentially the same game in slightly different areas, so I don't recommend them. It might also help to find something to do other than vidya, like hunting, fishing, or reading. That's what I do to break up the monotony of being half an hour from town with no internet.

If you're into medieval shit, dark souls is pretty good about realistic weapons and how to use them (how many games accurately portray a fucking estoc?).

I haven't played Peace Walker, but I heard it's good. It's available on the 360 as well. Revenegance is totally different and it's also pretty fucking hard, but it's a fun game.
5 has minimal plot. Like, it's jarring how little plot there actually is, and part of the reason is because 5 is non-linear and open world. The meat of the game is super fun, it's pretty open ended and you can goof off endlessly or build up mother base or whatever you want.
Personallly, I love Dishonored for its steampunk puzzle game that let's you kill people feel, but it's not for everyone.

No, the learning curve is steep early on, but after a while you tend to learn the enemy patterns and it becomes formulaic. Also, there's a certain sense of "fair play" being stupid, the bosses take skill to fight but there's no penalty for "cheating", i.e. the last boss of the DLC can be sniped at from outside his arena.

Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption can both be found for ~5-10 bucks and I've got about 100 hours logged in both without touching their multiplayer modes. Both are very satisfying third person shooters

I don't know, even with all the stuff obsidian did to fix it it's still a Bethesda game at its heart, which means on a console, eventually your saves will become unplayable due to bugs. There's no console commands to fix problems either, no mods and to top it off he can't even download any of the tons of updates they had to put out to fix some of the bugs. NV kinda really sucks for console plebs
