>It’s beyond rumor at this point. According to multiple sources familiar with various aspects of the program, H&K’s entry for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) program was selected earlier this week for procurement by the United States Army. Other finalists were LMT and FNH USA.

>The entry, named the G28E1, was displayed at SHOT Show in H&K’s booth. Interestingly, it incorporates an OSS Suppressor.

Get rid of the AR15 aesthetics.

inb4 hurr durr this way talibuun can't recognize snipers from average grunts
>>

>as if mudslimes could tell the distance from 100m away
>>29451166
The M110 had some reliability issues and the army wanted something more compact that would still be useful in close quarters/urban combat. Hence why this is the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program

FN
>>
>>29451442
I wonder what the parts commonality with the MK17 is like. That might get FN the contract.
>>
>>29451473

That essentially is a Mk17 with a lengthened receiver, extended trunnion and a few other accuracy enhancements.
>>
>>29451218
>take the M110
>buy it with a shorter barrel
>tell the dudes who make it to fix said issues
>bam, now instead of paying an other overpriced AR10 you are paying a dime for some custom parts that will get fixed by your armorers

why is the army so retarded
>>
>>29451473
Big Army doesn't use the MK17 though. FN already has a contract with SOCOM for the MK20 SSR
>>
Why are American gun companies so shit at securing these contracts?
>>
>>29451965
Dubious question considering most of the competitors are european
>>
>>29452047
The only 2 europeans were HK and FN. Sig USA is clearly behind the MCX based entry since all of their original work consists of pumping out AR/1911 clones and butchering the 550 platform with the 556.
>>
>>29451965
Because they literally are all pandering to the civilian high speed low drag tacticool faggot crowd
>>
>>29451965
To be fair what companies do we have here?

>Colt
Nothing original in the past 100 years
>KAC
Basically a boutique AR maker
>Remington
I dont think I need to say anything
>Ruger
see above
>Sig USA
Would have been better if the parent company had gotten behind the idea.

Literally 95% of the innovative weapons on the current market are European made, what little comes from america is normally in the form of civilian shit (PMR-30) or very specific roles (KRISS Vector)

no they are not. they are innovative.

I'm worried about them since Russ and over half the OSS staff quit the company recently to start their own new thing due to business drama

>create new AR15 and AR10 based semi-auto sniper rifles every second year
>>
>>29451233
That looks fucking atrocious
>>
>>29456158
I think most of the rifle looks fine. I can learn to like the skeleton stock since its light. It's just that fucking handguard is ugly as shit. Luckily, bulky lower part can be removed while still retaining the monolithic upper rail which has potential for aftermarket rails if the MCX every catches on enough. I'd like to see what old man Geissele can come up with for this
>>
>>29453148
He can't. He has said multiple times that the SR-15/SR-25 is the pinnacle of small arms design right now. His mistake was listening to boots and submitting a lightweight carbine capable of 1moa when the brass wanted a pigfat bench rifle.

Absolutely zero difference between 1moa and .66moa at the distances these guns were intended for.

>Innovative

Maybe.

A LGS in my city is the exclusive dealer for the area so I went to look at it with a friend who was thinking about buying one. I get that it's much more complex than your basic suppressor system, but the machining on it looked like utter shit. Marks everywhere, threads were already beat to shit including parts where they just broke off. Tons of burring all around and just poor finish in general.

This was of course a brand new one, too, never fired.

Concept seems cool, but I don't know if they don't have the money to invest in better machining or they just don't want to. Either way, the end product did not look trustworthy.

Why not?

>>29458778
Yes.
>>
>>29458778
Its a 417 follows H&K's long honored tradition of making guns weigh 50lbs so they can shoot 1/2 MOA.
So yes, yes it is.

>>29460305

>Heckler & Koch Defense Inc., Ashburn, Virginia, was awarded a $44,500,000 firm-fixed-price contract with options for Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System spare parts, training, and government purpose rights. Bids were solicited via the Internet with eight received with an estimated completion date of March 30, 2022. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-16-D-0051).
Confirmed

>>
>>29460433
Extremely unlikely given the 12" variant is right at 9lbs.
>>
>>29461040
I think the new handguard saves a significant amount of weight compared to the quad rail on the original hk417
>>
>>29461101
I hope so. I'd love to pic one up if the weight is reasonable.

while the German G28 looks sexy as fugg, i'm glad they cut the weight down. it kinda makes you wonder what the german requirments for the G28 were that they went with a fucking steel receiver and made it weigh a gorillion pounds.

Maybe an adverse reaction to the G36 Polymer melting fiasco
