They had American made kits they were like 35-50$s but obviously they were bought up quickly, I see them in Craigslist every once in a while and some websites have them. Look on keywest knives they had some good ones for cheap

How does how fast the blade deploys make a difference about anything? I like assisted-opening knives because I can open it une-handed.

Because a slow opening knife is annoying. Why would you need a car that can go faster than 10 miles per hour? I use my lightning fast switchblade for general use. It does everything the tiny little knives you're allowed to carry can. Today I used mine to cut a damaged towel into rags, open my mail, open some food packages, and cut some cord for hanging a painting.
You seem to think the only use of a switchblade is stabbing people.

I have one of those, and I can't believe the quality.
I can't believe a $20 Chinese knife could be good in any capacity, but the construction is solid, the fit and finish are miles above the price point, and the blade seems to be decent steel that can hold an edge respectfully well.
If you want a switch blade and don't want to pay a lot you really can't do better.
