The Deputies said that they had detained 15 middle eastern men around the age of 20. Apparently there was a large group of like 30 and they split. But here is what baffles me. The area they were in is a creek with steep cliffs on either side. There are two ways into this area, either a 5 mile hike along part of Pacific Crest Trail, or a 10 mile off road trip and a mile hike down a steep trail to the creek. Where they were is, or rather was, a popular place with the locals because the presence of two hot springs. It's still a hard hike no matter what way you go. People do camp along PCT, but no one goes up there to shoot guns. It's also National Forest, you cannot lawfully carry a gun, or shoot outside of marked ranges. In fact, it's a crime to shoot in there punishable by a fine. Save for lawful hunting that is. Quail season is over, and Deer Season is long over. With that, no one hunts in groups that big.
Now, did they stash guns? I don't know. Is it possible? Oh hell yeah, there are a lot of steep canyons up there, and lots of scrub brush they can store shit in.
I also know that when the first deputy called for backup, the entire area responded. We have four cities in the Victor Valley area. All 4 cities had deputies respond. This is technically Apple Valley jurisdiction, but it's shared with Hesperia. Well, technically it's county jurisdiction.
