Yea you've done good OP.

Inb4 "hurr you need to start with a .22"
>>
>>29434877
I saw it in a local pawn shop and the moment I pulled the bolt back I knew it was going to come home with me. Original Springfield from 1942
>>
>>29434859
its beautiful. Promise us that you wont alter it or remove its patina.

M1 Garands are crazy expensive in europe but i've wanted to own one ever since i shot it the first time.
>>
>>29434891
Patina? and No absolutely. It's getting a little TLC to clean the carbon out of the bolt but the inside is very clean and it sounds smooth
>>
>>29434895
like don't sand it back and try to reblue it or paint it or something.
>>
>>29434859

nice work OP, how much?
>>
>>29434905
Naw the Varnish is fine. I like it just the way it is. Im sure every single knick on it was caused by a marine or some shit.

>>29434906
They wanted 1200$ for it but I talked them down to 900+ tax
>>
>>29434949

That's pretty steep, considering it looks in a condition comparable to CMP's service grade, which are about $700.

What manufacturer? Post more pics.

Good taste fampai.

Remember to get the correct ammo for it, modern .30-06 will apparently fuck up something in the action.
>>
>>29434895
>>29434949

Patina as the marks of history accumulated on the metal and wood.

But sounds like you got it right. Good luck with it. Hows the bore?
>>
>>29434963
Im aware of the price. However this is a Springfield. The Serial Number places it in the July 1942 Year of Manufacturing. The minute I saw Springfield on it I knew I was gona buy it. The question was how much.
>>
Nice. Do not shoot commercial 30-06 in i T unless you have a gas regulator or it will kaboom.
>>
>>29434970
I didn't take a look at that. I figured the only thing I needed to look at was the Bolt....

(Also I can't post anymore pics because im at work right now. But I'll post more when I get home)
>>
>>29434964
This is true, but a few manufacturers offer M1 optimized ammo
PPU comes to mind

Or you can buy adjustable, vented, or ported gas plugs that'll let you shoot whatever
>>
>>29434971

Nice. People get all upset about price, you may have overpaid a bit but if you're happy with it, it's fine. Nice buy.

>>29434974

this.
>>
>>29434984
900 for a Springfield from WWII? I thought I was getting a deal.....
>>
>>29434974
It will not kaboom
What'll happen is you'll bend the op rod out if shape and pay through the nose to have it bent back or replaced

Thanks for the tip

I'll be sure to grab some high quality 30-06 for use since i'll be rarely shooting this bad boy
>>
>>29434990
You are
The $730 service grades from the CMP are all 50s/Korean War production and there is a premium in the marketplace for those once they leave the CMP
People will pay $200 over CMP because they don't need to wait months to get their rifle

You got a fair to good deal
>>
>>29434990

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

Yours looks to be somewhere between "rack grade" and "service grade" as CMP calls it. They ask $600-750 for that condition.
>>
>>29435008
That is luck of the draw. He would most likely have gotten an off brand Garand from the 50s or even 60s
>>
>>29435025

Very true, unless you go to the store you'll probably wont get a WWII garand.
>>
>>29435031
To be honest OP got kinda an Even deal. However that being said Finding a m1 in the wild (at a pawn shop no less) That's from WWII. AND is springfield is pretty rare. I've been going to pawn shops all my life and i've only seen an M1 Maybe twice? and both times they wanted 2 grand for rifles that were only a little better looking then OPs. He clearly made a bit of an impulse buy but he won't regret it. That rifle probably saw more shit then any of us.
>>
>>29435044

For what he got (WWII, springer) he certainly got a solid price. M1's crop up on armslist all the time around me (MI) for 900-1000.

If you just want a Garand, $900 is a lot considering CMP exists. but yeah, if youre set on a WWII era one, $900 is legit.
>>
>>29435061
Right but he didn't go through the CMP or Gunbroker or anything. He walked into a pawnshop and saw it on the wall. How many of us could say we've gotten our dream guns that way?
>>
>>29435068

>How many of us could say we've gotten our dream guns that way?

very few.

When I was a lot younger, about 16, I found some guy who had a literal warehouse full of primarily enfields, but also some nuggets, mausers, etc. Bought two consecutively numbered no.4's that day. Highly doubt anything like that will ever happen again.
>>
>>29435142
>4's
as in Serial number 1,2,3,4? Or like 400?
>>
>>29435068
This is basically how I got a S&W 39, only at a little mom & pop gunstore with a tiny used section

PICS NOW
I've been looking around for 6 months for one of those
>>
>>29435210

Like no.4 Lee-Enfield. Consecutively numbered as in one serial number is only off by one digit from the other (ex. 2001001 and 2001002)
