I don't think anyone actually drinks that stuff.

Was at Bragg in 2004. We had several weekends in a row where snow and ice closed the base for 3 or 4 days in a row. The 24 hour shoppette at Smoke Bomb Hill, would be empty of everything resemblign food and drink by the third day. Except for that vodka.

Get a water filter and run the vodka through it a couple of times, and it's good to go. Really works.
>>
>>29406916
Lol. Was at Bragg 05-13. Those bottles were everywhere up and down Longstreet and Ardennes every weekend from about 1400 Friday to 0600 Monday when 18th Fires had to do a base wide police call because someone got a DUI over the weekend.
>never saw one on Gruber though
Dunno why.

This. We used to make "gogogo juice" with the yellow ones. Fill a canteen with it. Grind up 2 No-Doz. Drink quickly. RRRRRRUUUUUUUNNNNNN!
>>
>>29406984
2004 - I used to blast up and down Longstreet and Chicken, out in the field area, on my motorcycle.

Come back from Iraq deployment and now 2006. Gates and police cars all over Longstreet and Chicken. Can't blow by military trucks and armor vehicles at triple digits. No more middle of the night runs on the dirt roads off in the fields and LZs.
>>
>>29406916
That garbage isn't even fit for Airborne to drink. It's better used as cleaner or emergency fuel than drinking.

Also, are you sure you didn't have a 6k VRRT? I thought the aviation brigade were supposed to be the only ones with 10k's. Not even 18th Fires had them.

Did...did you guys ever actually do anything or go anywhere?

Seriously I was at Bragg almost 7 years before I knew you even existed. Never saw you innafield, you never came down on deployment orders despite being the middle of the surge, it's like nobody knew what to do with you guys.
>>
>>29407245
I was an 11B, everyone smoked or dipped. I used to dip during rucks. Obv. you aint smoking ona patrol/during night
>>
>>29407238
I was in 229th Avn Regiment, before it was deactivated in april 2004. Then I was sent to one of the former Reigment's BNs. which was reflagged 3rd bn 3rd regiment 3rd ID Avn.

I'm sure they were the 10ks. I was commo and my section was part of the motorpool squad. Which was in HHC and HQ companies at the time. The motorpool NCOs always called them Atlas or 10k.
>>
>>29407238
Also
>10K was out at Simmons because apparently they needed to pick up a helo for something
>have to drive it out to range 78/79

That was a 13 hour drive

>>29407304
Ah that explains it. Yeah you had a 10k then.
>>
>>29407299
>dip

Never could do it, never actually tried it, I just went cold turkey until this one time outside BIAP we got these lousy no-brand Hajji cigarettes...that cured us of the desire for the rest of the deployment.
>>
>>29407295
We were part of 302nd Signal Battalion out of Ft Detrick, so no, the most we ever did was man the complex there, do land nav and range, and live in the barracks next to the 24 hour shoppette. We're a non-deployable tennant company that just happened to be there.

It was pretty amusing that we looked like a NG unit showing up for drill when we did land nav since we all has mis-matched gear.
>>
>>29407321
why didn't they just put the atlas on a hemtt or m1070(that oshkosh semi) trailer and tow it?
>>
>>29407358
Well damn.

I'm officially jelly now.
>be in line unit
>deploy with four separate camo patterns in our kit
Had a mix of woodland, 3-color desert, UCP, and multicam for 2 different deployments
>>
>>29407412
We didn't have m1070's and our flatbed PLS' were always broken. Probably could've put it on a lowboy and pulled it with one of the fueler HEMTTs though. I dunno, I was a SPC at the time so got overruled by my NCO's.
>>
>>29407416
11ACR was doing security on MSR Tampa and was QRF for Camp Taji, for part of 2005.

They wore woodland when going out at night.
>>
>>29407444
Yep. 75th Rangers wore woodland during 06-07 as well. Shit works better than you'd think, especially in northern Iraq where it isn't really desert.

Also I didn't say it didn't work, just that we also looked like some reserve REMFs.
>>
>>29407416
Sadly this was my situation
>go to Korea

>go to Ft Bragg
>all right, I'm bound to get deployed here!
>oh we're non-deployable here...okay
>get orders for Germany
>orders give me the spiel about get here ready to deploy
>some MI unit, google says it's part of 3rd Armored
>thetimehascomeandsohavei.jpg
>nope, we're not only non-deployable, we're sticking you at BDE for 3 years
>thiskillsthemotivation
6 1/2 years in and all I got to do was hear about other people doing cool stuff. I feel like I missed out on the whole Army experience when the only time my field exercise didn't involve a heated tent and temporary barracks was basic training.
>>
>>29407650
I spent 6 years in Japan, after my 3 at bragg(with a deployment to iraq), just outside Tokyo.

first three years were great. no deployments, no field, no training that wasn't office job related. working night shift, no company PT.

then shit just kept getting more retarded. As new leadership came in and wanted us to play fuckfuck games like we were a signal unit that went to the field and deployed. the high stress high tempo 9-5 office work combined with tactical non sense. being in japan was just not worth it anymore.

started having to sgt's time training, even if twas between night shifts. so 12 hours of work. 2 hours of nothing. then 5 hours of training. leaving you with 5 hours before having to show up for another 12 hour shift.

had to do company pt too, after night shifts. 12 hours work 1 hour nothing 1 hour pt.
>>
>>29407650
>In for 9.5 years

There needs to be a middle ground somewhere.

Also
>when I enlisted they were so short staffed in Korea they were offering a $350 per month bonus to volunteer for Korea
>volunteer for Korea, it's my #1 choice
>the "list 3 places you DONT want to go were Benning, Bragg, and Drum
>went to basic and jump school at Benning
>stuck at Bragg 8 years, then sent to Drum for 2
>>
>>29407791
baka

never get your jump wings and then expect to not be stuck at bragg.
>>
>>29407750
Had a CO who came over from 82nd who wanted us to do all that high-speed training, but he at least had sense enough to let us do it on shift instead of bringing us in when we were supposed to be asleep. Having your guys falling asleep on 12 hour shifts is generally a bad thing.

>>29407791
Yeah, there was a reason they made the rule that you were supposed to have 2 years in between deployments, but that was in...2011 I think.

The most they offered in Korea when I was there was extra pay if you decided to stay there for 2 years. 1 year sitting on top of a mountain 24 hours at a time was enough for me.

for a year they cut the shift monkeys down to 4 soldiers. so only 1 person per shift. I slept at least 4-6 hours during night shift.

Once it 2300 I turned the volume up on the phone and computers. So if a network had an outage or the phone rang, it would wake me up.

me and my friend from day shift. we spent our days off, off base and drunk during the middle of the day.couldn't risk getting called in to do work. So we were always drunk enough when off duty, to keep from being kept at work if called in.
>>
>>29407949
>One of my deployments was so soon after getting back that all my shit was still on the boat in the middle of the ocean.
Good God, that's a rough deployment cycle. Were they shifting you to different units for it to work like that or were the commanders just that bad?

>>29407964
Sounds like me in Korea. So long as we had one of the Korean Nationals there, which they were always there at night and usually there during the day, all we had to do were a few security checks and then we could go to sleep if we wanted. There were more than a few times me or someone else came directly from the bar, swung by the barracks long enough to shave and change cloths, then stumble up the hill and pass out on the couch.
