Abrams optics aren't they bad, they actually provide a pretty wide field of view. Just like how a person doesn't have to be turning their head constantly to be able to see what's in front of them. When you have one position watching one sector and another position watching another sector they actually combine to produce a pretty wide field of view, so the gunner shouldn't have to scan constantly to maintain a clear view of the tank's surroundings. And on the M1A2 at least the commander has thermals as well as the gunner.

You can plainly see in the webm that the turret isn't rotating 360 degrees around the tank- in fact it only seems to be maintaining a roughly 60 degree coverage. The combined optics of the gunner and commander should be more than capable of covering that. If your theory is that the gunner needs to rotate the turret to maintain 360 degree situational awareness around the tank then it should be turning 360 degrees, shouldn't it?
