When are you going to ditch your .25 ACP and adopt the powerful .32 ACP? With "a delivery like a brick through a plate glass window."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P26470lZB_U

Was .25 ACP the 9mm of the old days?
>>
>>29317873
more like the 5.45 of it's day. Ak74 fags be warned
>>
>time when gentlemen would carry guns in their pockets
>>
>>29317873
Yes. Provided you don't know anything about history or firearms it definitely was the 9mm of the day.
>>
>While people are debating whether 9mm is "powerful enough", and see .380 as a non-starter, there have been countless people who successfully defended their lives with the gnat fart .25
>>
.25 ACP was used by the KGB genocide squads, it probably has more kills than any other pocket pistol/cartridge combination.

Police all around europe were using .32 pistols long before the US even considered replacing revolvers.

still doesnt mean shit. shooting people on their knees in the back of the head vs shooting someone from a distance in the torso/back/wherever

Ian Flemming was a hack.

I said it.

Ive read his books and there was a reason he was a pulp novella writer. He was very much infatuated with the IDEA of tactical espionage in an age before that even mattered, when Ivy League old money families could buy their way into being Special Activities Division paramilitary because most nation's armies were could not give less of a fuck conscripts.
>>
>>29319515
So, he just wrote spiced up and fantasized tales of his and his friend's experiences?
>>
>>29319554

Exactly.

Casina Royal follows an event when he went gambling in Europe and was CONVINCED that the gentlemen he won money from at a casino were nazi spies DESPITE the more senior officer he was on leave with telling him they absolutely were not.

The same way that Jean le Carre admits that his work is fantasized fiction and most of his spy "leg work" amounted to wadting time and chasing his own tail nit actually knowing what he was doing.

The bay of pigs invasion was unfortunately the NORM of special activities rather than the abject failure in a sea of resounding successes.
>>
>>29318080
You could carry a .25 ACP or a .32 ACP nowadays and probably be able to stop an attacker. I think nowadays the concern is less about getting them to stop and more about killing the fuck out of them. Dead men can't sue for damages.
>>
>>29319554

And it wasnt just him.

1SFOD's initial fitness standards in the late 70s was pushups and situps on the 30s in under a minute and a 16 minute 2 mile run.

Operating now is literally an entirely different world from even 30 years ago, much less 60.
>>
>>29317873

Read the Bourne series.

It talks about silenced pistols as powerful as .357 magnums.

Writers are encouraged to write what they know, but that doesnt stop them from spouting ignorance when they cant be asked to do their research.
>>

>>29319598

Part of me has always been convinced that the move to larger and larger rounds under the guise of "lethality and stopping power" is due mostly to marketing by the ammo manufacturers.

a 10mm round can be sold for a lot more than a .25ACP. Sure, it's got a little more lead, but the manufacturing cost differences are negligible. So it's basically profit.

You play on the population's fear and tell them they need to defend themselves and then mention that if their caliber starts with anything less than '4' they might as well be armed with harsh language.

>there's fags itt that actually own firearms chambered in pistol calibers
>he doesn't exclusively own all weapons in rifle calibers

setting yourself up for failure
>>
>>29320041
It's partially that, but it's also the changing "tastes" of cop arsenals.

Your average Joe Civilian feels that a weapon that's good enough for the cops is good enough for him.

Since the North Hollywood Shootout, though, cops have been convinced that they need ever-more-powerful equipment to stop criminals and put a greater and greater emphasis on combat in their jobs. (Even cops in sleepy-ass flyover states with no crime, since a cop will use any excuse to gain more power over the public he "serves".)

So, where a .38 Special and a shotgun was once enough for a basic cop, now you need 10mm and a semi-auto rifle. The public sees that and thinks, "If the cops need that to defend themselves, I should have that too. It must be getting more dangerous out there."
>>
>>29320041

Any caliber is better than none.

But realistically, in an SD scenario, stopping power can play a role.

You non-lethally vent someone with a bigger calibre, and they are less likely to say to them self "Fuck it all, i'm taking this cunt with me."

But the benefit of a smaller cartridge is capacity, so even if you are less likely to get the kill, you have more shots to get the kill.

As far as the age old .45acp/9mm debate goes,

They are both perfect examples of perfect modern cartridges following different design principles.

One 'stops' people better, but there is a minor limitation on capacity and range (the former being more notable considering modern .45 double stack magazines aren't too far from 9mm, unless you want a trusty 1911)

And 9mm is very slightly less effective at 'stopping' with a substantial improvement in range and a decent increase in capacity.

The choice of sidearm calibre should be directly relevant to the serviceable longarm, and personal preference.

And the people who are choosing between the calibres need to know there choice is preference and that neither round is inferior unless it is for a specific purpose, like comp shooting, where a .45 has no advantage, because trajectory and capacity are all that matter.
>>
>>29317873
I'd love to carry a little 25acp or 32 acp, they are pretty effective with ball rounds. Shot placement and penetration are what matters, caliber choice is last on my list.

>the gun that killed Hitler

also my personal favorite
>Blokhin favoured the 7.65 mm Walther PPK pistol, a gun which was being used for all the mass executions. For Blokhin, it didn’t have as much of a kickback as other guns, which meant less pain in his wrist after performing hundreds of executions every day

>>29320217
meant to

>>29317873
>>
>>29320217
The article you read and quoted from was incorrect. Blokhin used the Walther Model 2 in .25ACP, not the PPK.

The author probably confused one Walther for another.
>>
>>29320240
huh, thank you anon
>>
>>29317873
there wasn't a big variety of pocket guns back then. you were stuck with .25s, .32s and .38 snub noses for the most part
the walther ppk was probably one of the ebst pocket pistols for its time and became notorious as the james bond gun for it. The .32 is no question better, but a .25 9for what its intended for) is bad per say
>>
>>29322742
>The .32 is no question better
Why do you say that?
>>
>>29320217

a man dressed in a leather apron from his neck down, so he wouldnt get blood on his medals, elbow high rubber gloves and according to a contemporary witness

>>
Hey I carry a Walther PP, neat.
>>
On a related note, can anyone recommend a good factual book on spies, spying and espionage?
>>
>>29317873
I started out carrying a mauser 1910 for fun since it has zero recoil.
But i changed as soon as i got my Walther PP in .32.
Its very nice to shoot and its very well made since its a pre-war Walther made for the Reichs Justice Department.
>>
>>29317873
>Was .25 ACP the 9mm of the old days?

No.

But I miss the days when pic related was
>>
>>29320117
There's also a power creep in hunting rounds, though. Many kids don't think .30-30 is powerful enough for deer, which is hilarious.

I think part of it also though is an image of what a defensive gun is. Back in the 20's, it was bad form to have a gun that was visible, and men who carried didn't have Rambo or whatnot to give them the image that bigger guns are better. You carried because it was what a gentleman did. A small pistol that easily fit into your pocket without fuss or being visible was perfectly fine.
>>
>>29325949
There's nothing wrong with .38 revolvers
>>
>>29324850
bigger bullet so a bigger punch, but as far as pocket guns go it doesn't have to much snap which is fun to shoot, more pistols offer it and in my own experience its easier to come by

fleming was a brit, and these are not british terms. while you got into mi6 throw connections mainly, the us was generally more professional; however, if you want someone to seamlessly blend with diplomats and have a good story for being there, it's not actually a bad idea to recruit people who grew up in the circle and were well-connected. those people didn't usually come from the fucking swamp.

>tactical espionage

and what the fuck is that supposed to mean anyway?

>>29319592

John, its John, not Jean.

>1SFOD's initial fitness standards in the late 70s was pushups and situps on the 30s in under a minute and a 16 minute 2 mile run.

The difference being they ripped the fuck out of the candidates on the actual selection. Delta was self-consciously modelled on the SAS, and that was the british approach. Take fucking whoever, throw them in the deep end, keep whoever doesn't drown, fuck the rest back off to big army. The brits didn't give a fuck if you could do 100 push ups, they cared if you could walk 60km across Wales in the rain by yourself at night and get to the other side.

This has changed due to people dying on selection and too many people wanting to get in.

Flemming was a fairly high-ranking Naval Intelligence officer from a time period that saw widespread usage of low-caliber pistols, especially by intelligence services. It was literally a different time.

I think you mean "penetration like a brick through a pane of glass"
>>
I just bought a Beretta Tomcat .32 ACP. It's pretty sweet: reliable, low recoil and disappears into a pocket holster.

What kind of ammo should I get? I've always used JHP for carry guns (9, 40, 45, etc.). But I heard about using FMJs with less powerful calibers (like .22 & .25) to maximize penetration. Basically hollow points supposedly won't go far for these rounds.
>>
Beretta 81, it is a 3" load of 00 Buck, one at a time.
>>
>>29332647

The difference in size between an expanded hollow point and an FMJ isn't too significant in lower caliber ammo, so yeah, go for the ball rounds.

What if someone chambered a full size handgun in .25 ACP so you had like a 30 round capacity?
>>
>>29332647

Hard-cast metal from underwood

Don't pussyfoot around with FMJ

In fact, I'd just convert your .32 into a good round like 10mm and use hard-cast flatnose ammo
