>In a stark assessment, the US Air Force chief-of-staff warned that China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) will be poised to overtake the US Air Force by 2030.
>“At the rate they’re building, the models they’re fielding, by 2030 they will have fielded—they will have made up that 2,000 aircraft gap and they will be at least as big—if not bigger—than our air forces," Welsh told the subcommittee.
We are not keeping up with that kind of technology development

US confirmed for cucked out of aerospace by not 2050, but 2030!.

>>
>>29309766
It's supposed to encourage a mindset in a given group. I'm not sure how it worked in the older days, maybe people were different. Like Tokyo Rose saying how you should stop fighting because your wife is cheating on you and your leaders are idiots. Most GIs would say there's a possibility of the former and probably agree with the latter. But those Japs needed some vengeance for Pearl and nothing was going to stop that.

During Desert Storm Saddam dropped leaflets depicting Coalition troops as Looney Tunes-esque doofs that should beware of Iraq's army. Did they start surrendering to the republican guard? No, it just pissed them off more during the ground war.

So seeing some asshat declaring America's death on the web is pointless until they can make shit go south fast.

It's budget season dipshit.

So far the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Commandant of the Marine Corps have all released statements about how their particular units and programs NEED that extra funding. They NEED it OR THE GOMMIES WIN!

They do this shit every single year right before the fiscal year starts in a bid to sway congressmen to earmark more funds for their particular branch or programs in the budget.

They've been doing this since 1789 when Congress was asked whether we needed to buy actual uniforms for the Army or build boats to have a Navy.

We're a Republic, a pretty open one at that, it is up to the civilian leadership of our country to allocate funding for our military programs.
>>
>>29309821
Difference being that SEA countries can essentially bottle up the Chinese navy with land based systems if they get too butthurt. Actually that's exactly what they are doing.

If just having more airframes is an indicator of strength, we'd be cranking out a bunch of shitty COIN aircraft like modernized Mustangs and Super-Tucanos.

The gap is shrinking not because they are doing their own R&D but modernizing with now common as fuck technology (CIV tech gifting) or corporate/state hacking to get more advanced research.

This level of increase in tech can only sustain itself as long as there continues to be a gap to allow the theft/accrual of already developed tech/research. The closer the gap becomes the slower the rate of increase and ultimate stoppage as they have to establish their own independent R&D sectors. This is shown as already slowly happening primarily in the Aviation field as I stated before where their engine propulsion technology is complete and utter shit. This is considered a fairly basic field of study and yet they continue to be forced to outsource engines because they can't make one that last for any significant length of time.

The F-35 is PAINFULLY slow compared to all other fighter jets. How is this duck that can't exceed 900 knots going to compete against Russian jets zipping around at Mach 2.0+, with longer range, higher missile capacity, and best of all, the ability to actually turn.

Europe should buy Eurofighters instead.
>>
>>29322083

Its fast enough, and the Russian Airforce is a joke and there is a reason the ground defense forces are have such an important role. Also Eurofighters cant turn for shit, that delta wing causes massive amounts of drag in a turn. Eurofighters also have a massive issue when it comes to production considering their components have to be manufactured all across europe.

They dont even do the same job. The F-35 is intended to be a multirole aircraft that can utilize nearly all existing weapons in the airforce arsenal and those that will be developed in coming decades. The F-22 is a dedicated air superiority fighter that excels at what it does. They arent supposed to be equal in terms of their abilities as that would detract from their ability to do the jobs they were made for. You are an idiot if you start saying "the f-35 isnt a better fighter than the f-22", its not supposed to be, and again, you are an idiot.

>>
>>29322111
Well, the F-35 was never supposed to be an air superiorty fighter like the F-22. So comparisons can only be misleading.

Doesn't change that the F-35 project was handled in the worst possible way though.
>>
>>29322083
>The F-35 is PAINFULLY slow compared to all other fighter jets.

It flies at the speeds aircraft actually travel at and performs fancy maneuvers through controlled flight instead of ballistically throwing itself.

The question you should be asking is how can a Russian jet compete against an aircraft that will have fired on it before it even knew it was being targeted.
>>
>>29322151
What a surprise that an aircraft fleet of non supercruise capable aircraft don't operate much in transsonic/supersonic regimes.
>>
>>29322111
[citation needed]
>>
>>29322151

I don't get it. Isn't the answer obvious- jets at the time could only go fast when afterburning, which consumes a shitton of fuel? So it makes obvious sense to use dry thrust and stay subsonic most of the time.

The paper makes it seem like it's some great mystery.
>>
>>29312264
since most insurgents weren't from Iraq id say it was a marginal success.
>>
>>29322212
Supercruise capable aircraft do not normally fly at those speeds either, it greatly reduces range.
>>
Lets see here....

In 2030 they might have hundreds of a fighter that carries less BVR missles of the much smaller F-35 (at that time)...which, at that time, the us will have thousands.

In 2030, they will have 3 shit teir 40k ton 2nd hand russian designed poor excuse for a carrier. In 2030 the us's 6th ford class carrier will be in sea trials.

In 2030 the US will have already unvield its 6th gen fighter, already in LRIP.

The chinese are so fucking behind the ball they have to desperately try anything to stay at their current position behind the US
>>
>>29322214
Supercruising still takes a shitton of fuel.
>>
>>29322185

>The F-35 is intended to be a multirole aircraft

That's the whole issue. The F-35 is basically a strike aircraft, it is too slow and too unmaneuverable to compete in air-to-air combat. That might be okay for the US because the US actually has the F-22, but other nations that buy the F-35 as their sole option for air defense are getting screwed royally.
>>
>>29322242
So the super hornet is too slow and unmanuverable?
>>
>>29322234

I'm not arguing about the F-22 vs F-35. I don't give two shits about that.

I'm just interested in the paper. Did military planners at the time really expect air combat to occur at full burner all the time, and making minimal maneuvers to maintain mach 2?
>>
>>29322248

Yes. The Tomcat never should have been retired. The Hornet was a poor replacement: slower, and shorter range.

And the costs are going down constantly, hell the difference between what a F-35 costs now and the early estimates from the 90's is less than what a new F-16 costs now and what it did in the 90's.

Nobody important wants any articles to say exactly that, because that would instigate the pro-expansion elements of the Communist Party. But the facts of the matter are that these atoll installations are supposed to deter SEA in the short term and prepare for a future inevitability where the US would no longer be able to protect SEA and leave all of Asia to Chinese domination in the long term.

The only thing that would stop it is a complete cockblock in relevant airspace and sea lanes. And the only way that will happen is if SEA instigates the Chinese into attacking a country protected by US treaty. So if Japan does a Cuban Missile Crisis blockade of a critical sea lane and China blows that blockade up, America will come in and re-enact the Pacific Campaign.

There's supposed to be upwards of 700 J-20's by 2030. The F-35 won't hit 1000 PRODUCED (not even ready) until 2032.
The J-20 currently carries an outdated missile that will be replaced by more advanced missiles in the future. PL-12 for example. Both the updated Block 3b F-35A and J-20 will carry the same amount of BVR missiles in 2025.
