I got a gp-5 gas mask the other day. I've heard there is asbestos is the filter. Should I take a sweet, sweet puff of the soviet filter?

99% of the old filters don't contain asbestos, it's mostly just the really really old ones from the 50's and they are longer than the one in OP pic. Yours should have a date printed on it like a spam can of ammo.

You don't even have to convert them to take decent filters that actually work, just buy some surplus israeli filters online, they come sealed and are only about 5-10 years old and they fit the threads because they are the same diameter

Have someone that is a professional do it for you or you can do hard mode by replacing the threads and making sure it will be air tight when you use nato filters

What the fuck are you smoking, nigger. GP-5s will accept NATO filters stock. When it comes to gas masks, 40mm is 40mm is 40mm. Hell, if you have a special snowflake 60mm you can just buy an adapter

1. The GP5 is not a good mask, buy anything western from Korea and forward for a more comfortable, user friendly and considerably better.
2. Asbestos wasnt used in masks after ww2. The gp mask uses active coal, which can be hard on your stomach.

Soviets stopped using Asbestos already in early 60s. Americans a whole decade later.
Most GP-5 cans are thus safe, but I wouldn't go sniffing through them any way.

You don't need to make any conversions you dummies. Gp-5 masks will take NATO filters no problem. It's only when you get the Serb masks (and some others) that have 60mm threading that you have to get a conversion piece
