WE LASERS NOW

>In essence, it’s no longer a technological problem to make laser weapons work. It’s one of integration at the service level.

video or bullshit
>we lasers now
seems legit

LOL
Welcome to the 70s guys.
We Akira now
WE LASGUNS NOW

cool, its already illegal for civilians to own lights that are too bright so this will be just one order of magnitude greater power the government has over the population.

Did somebody say heresy?

>haha "pewpew" good joke OP
>it's real
>>29292375
Sorry I can't hear over that distance with my pulse rifle.
>>29290011
This has been possible for quite a while now. Infrared lasers have been capable of burning through materials on long distance for at least a decade. The problem is with the dispersion of the beam in the atmosphere. If, for example, a laser based CIWS on a ship would have to act, everyone having a line of sight to the turret and the first hundred or so meters of the beam would experience severe damage or turn blind completely. Unless they are issued proper protection of course.
>>29290011
That's been true for at least two years now. We've had trials that have knocked drones out of the air before it's really just a matter of mounting them at this point.
A word of warning, though. Lasers have efficiency troubles so it takes a vehicle mounted laser about two seconds to burn through the skin of most missiles. It's not much but I'm gong to keep my chemical propellants thankyouverymuch.
Missiles and aircrafts will simply get thermal shields.
>>29292384
>compensating for terrain flux
Pic related: another soviet prototype.
>>29290011
The eternal problem: power source and power storage. This is why chemical propelled weapons are still the best for more than a 1000 years.
>>29293641
they could power it with a dynamo powered by a revolving gatling gun.
>>29292267
>burning out optics is the same thing as making a laser that destroys shit
>>29292367
It is actually for blinding AFVs and ATGM teams. Also it is literally can't be countered.
>>29293641
Fuel cells are coming along nicely, there have also been some promising murmurs from the solid state lithium ion battery reaserchers

>>29293726
Except for shooting at the tank with a large number of delicate lenses.
or wire guidance.
If any of the current small scale fusion projects work out,we could see fusion powered aircraft and ships and maybe even tanks within a decade or two, which would be able to power lasers in the hundreds of kilowatts off of literally grams worth of deuterium.
Fingers crossed.
>>29293796
Have fun aiming at tank when you are blind.
How long till rail guns get to this stage?

Just a question of the desire = MOMMY I WANT MORE MONEY
>>29293868
But you're too drunk to turn the tank on.
>>29293846
Fusion's been twenty years out since the 1950s. I want to be optimistic about it, but I'm not holding my breath.
>>29294485
yup
>>29292460
mind=blown
wtf?
>>29293726
laser light is polarized. Put a polarization filter over your sights, bam, no more lasers.
>>29294485
obviously.
There are flashlights which can turn you blind in a matter of seconds
>>29294996
yeah nigga, dont forget to pack your fucking polarization filter
an essential tool
>>29295022
it will be if your laser takes off.
They aren't expensive either, any college physics lab has them.
>>29290011
how is this better? how much does an rpg cost?
the maximum range of what they describe (30kw) melts two inches of steel and needs to be mounted on a vehicle. You can see at the end of the article they are making a 60kw version for the army to test. You know exactly how that conversation went "it needs to be literally twice as strong before we will even begin considering it"
Its a technological problem
>>29294915
>Fusion's been twenty years out since the 1950s
Which is why its notable that Lockheed-Martin is now claiming that it's less than ten years out.
>>29295046

>>29295038
Polarization filters absorb light.
See OP's pic as an example of what happens when you absorb a few seconds of 30kW laser.
Good luck with your sunglasses.
>>29295046

and swedish and some other university testing an italian fusion theory and proved positive sustainable output. it was running on some nickel powder stuff.
its coming, the energy problem in europe brings alot of investments and focus on this tech

My hopes are with them.
>>29295167
>sustainable
I demand a source
>>29292322
Yaaas.
>>29294996
Not all laser light is lineary polarized. Also to bypass possible filters system literally used 12 lasers with different properties at once.
>>29295046
I said twenty as an arbitrary number.
I'll start being excited when someone actually pulls off making a fusion reactor that doesn't take more energy to sustain than it puts out.
>>29295167
>sustainable output
I call bullshit because a technological breakthrough of that degree would be shouted from the mountaintops. Fusion is proven to work, it just takes more energy to sustain the reaction than it puts out.
>>29295151
I was talking about for the blinding lasers, like in
>>29292267
Not burning lasers.
For burning lasers, chaff or smoke will help.
>>29295352
That happened 2 years ago.

While it's trying to jam you, your mate shoots it.
tada, slavs just wasted 15 billion rubles.
>>29295489
You failed to read it entirely.
>That’s 10 times better than previous experiments. However, remember that only 1/200th of the original energy output by the lasers makes it to the hydrogen. That means that overall the reactor is still losing far more energy than it puts out.
>the reactor is still losing far more energy than it puts out
I'm talking net energy in and net energy out, which includes whatever power goes into containing the reaction.
>>29290011
>must be use in clear sky
>must be use in dry weather
>must be use on targets that stay still
>must take 2 hours to warm up

is jewheed the Steve job of the arm hardware world now? I mean that cancerous faggot down at apple does nothing but dumpster dive HP R&D for things they throw out and market it as gold, mean while jewheed dumpster dive the old USSR for their old techs that they deemed unfit for reality and market it as THE NEXT BEST THING IN THE WORLD GOYS

There are guns which can turn you dead in a matter of seconds.
