Questions that don't deserve their own thread,
Is getting the takedown 10/22 worth it, or should I get a full length model?
>>
>>29288806
I am thinking of getting one also. The 16" Model with the threaded barrel, then I can use my suppressor too without making it super long.

What kind of accuracy do people get out of these things?
>>
anyone have any experience bluing revolvers? i'm in the process of rebluing my Taurus .357 and i can't get the blue to work on the frame for some reason.
>>
>>29288806
I have mine and I love it. I use it for squirrel hunting with a primary arms 1-6x acss and it works just fine. we are talking 22lr so it's not a long range king but it does shoot well. I have the stainless steel version and I am in the market for the threaded as well.
>>
>>29288806
I can't really give an opinion on the takedown model. Mine is black polymer and came with a LaserMax sight integrated to the stock. Also has a flip-up rear sight and rails on the laser.

I love my 10/22. The iron sights are off as fuck and there's no way to correct them, but the laser is dead on accurate and it came with a scope mount just in case. If you go backpacking a lot and want something to hunt small game with, the takedown is a good model. Personally, I plan on getting a Kel Tec Sub 2000 for that reason. Any 10/22 is a good 10/22. Just depends on your reason for it.
>>
>>29289630
Taurus prolly doesn't use great metal so it's prolly not taking because of that. I got an old .22 that looks shitty because of that.

I could be wrong though. If I am, prep, prep, prep and THEN prep again. The shinier the bare metal the better it'll take. Also, I like using MEK to degrease.
>>
>>29290905

yeah, i wanted to try the process on the shittiest gun i own before trying it on anything bigger, i've got it working on the barrel, and i prep the hell out of both the barrel and the frame, got both of them mirror shiny before i tried.
>>
>>29288806
I have a takedown 10/22, it works well for me and I have never had any issues due to the takedown mechanism, but just costs extra.

Related to the 10/22 takedown, does anyone have any suggestions for bull barrel upgrades
>>
>>29290876
>>29288806
Also Nj res. I'd recommend just going for full length unless space is a real convern for you.
>>
I have the same as op photo. I thoroughly enjoy it thus far. The only problem I have had is the dove tail on the front sight came loose while firing after like the 300th round. I fixed it and haven't had an issue. I bought it because I can fit 400 rounds comfortably in the front lower pocket, a 25 round extended magazine in the barrel compartment, and a collapsible scope in the top pocket. Still overall very light. The ultimate truck gun for travel or camping and such. I use it for plinking often hitting 100 yard targets within 1-4 shots with just the iron sight for fun. I have the scope in case I ever wanted to hunt small game. I would recommend it. The only negative is for all the money I put in I could have bought something else (400$) I guess.
>>
>>29288806

I have the takedown and I like it. I do not own a regular version.

Way I see it is I'd rather pay a little extra to have the ability to break it down even if I never use it versus going on and thinking "well gee, it'd be nice if I could break this down".
>>
>>29288806
I've got the takedown with the threaded barrel. I love it. I haven't seen any accuracy issues so far (about 400 rounds) and is just as accurate as a regular one from my experience. If you want to keep it assembled you can, the takedown just makes packing it a lot easier. No downside except cost.
>>
>>29288815
You wont be nailing bunnies at a mile, but it depends on you, and the ammo. I love mine. I don't use it as much as I'd like to. Overall good gun for the price, gets dirty easily.
>>
>>29292034
this. Very dirty. Being takedown though, it's easy enough to get apart and deep clean. Only problem I had was getting the bolt back onto its spring.
>>

What's /k/'s opinion on .41 Magnum. I'm very tempted to pick up a S&W Model 57 because the cartridge is touted as having the best worlds of .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum.

Is it feasible to design a gyrojet-style pistol that uses a toggle action?
How reliable is the toggle action compared to more modern actions?

Are there any .357 magnum revolvers that CAN'T handle +p .38 specials?

I just got a 1858 Remington.

A friend says I can clean it easily by just taking out grips and cylinder then removing nipples.

Take everything and throw it into soapy hot water and brushing it down with a toothbrush and running a fe patches.

Then they say to rinse with clean hot water and blow dry + relube with ballistol.

Is this safe?

I am really trying not to have to take it down every time due to how fragile these screws are.
>>
I found some old 22 Wmr birdshot in good condition is it safe to fire it out of a standard 22 rifle or do I need a 22 Wmr rifle?
>>
Mini 14 yea or nay?
>>
>>29289630
Use a heat gun to warm up the metal(blow dryer isn't enough). I'm talking a heat shrink temp gun. Get it warm then dip in blue or use dabber to even out the blue. Heating it up opens the pores in the metal without warning it.
>>
>>29288806
If you've got the cash, hit the gash. I mean, yes, get the takedown. Now you can backpack it. That's cool as fuck. I'd love to tuck away a takedown to go blasting in the woods. I have a regular one and its a bitch even to mount a sling.
>>
I have a .22 rifle that you can take the furniture off and have all of the working parts of the gun perfectly together.

Would it be unsafe to shoot it without the furniture?

Would I burn myself?
What would happen?

I'm sure it's fine but you never know.
>>
>>29295636
depends on how hot it gets. youd have to mag dump like 500 rounds as fast as possible to heat a 22 to the point where its too hot to hold

>>
>>29295466
yea if your in a ban state.

nay if you are free ( get an ar15 )
>>
>>29295769
no. not at all.

first, you dont apply for and get approved for a trust.
You have a lawyer (or if your confident in your self guided legal ability) to draw up a trust and Schedule A

find your NFA dealer of choice.
buy item of your desire.

send in Form 4 and copies with trust info, NFA items info, and dealer info to ATF
attach a check for $200 payable to the DOJ

the finger prints ect is only after Rule 41 goes into effect.

untill then via trust, no photo, no prints, no LEO sign off.

I use a check no a MO, that way i know when it is cashed, once that happens i start my 6-8 month clock and forget about it
>>
>>29295769
Trust are bust homie & they never worked like that.
>set up trust
>buy nfa item
>fill out form 4
>get photo & prints done
>pay $200 tax
>submit the forms, prints,photos & $200 to the atf.
>wait 6-8 months
>get approved
>go into shop & fill out a 4473
>go home with new item.

Sometimes my Remington 11-48 will cycle but the next shell won't make it into the chamber, leading to the bolt getting stuck on the shell. Is this a problem with the lifter not going all the way or the bolt not moving back far enough? This only happens rarely and with no particular ammo but I'm still curious.

I'm currently in the market for a pistol carbine.

>TNW Aero Survival Rifle
>Just Right Carbine
>Kel-Tec Sub-2000
I chose these particular guns because they use Glock magazines, which can be found everywhere, and because they're not terribly expensive.

Which one and why?

I'm aware of the Kriss Vector CRB, but that one is substantially more expensive than the others.

Midwest here too. I personally don't believe that Koreans have the ability to reach the Midwest because they can't into ICBM, but even if they could they wouldn't go for a Midwestern city. Unless you're near Chicago. Then I personally would suggest moving away from chigaco because it's shit anyways.
>>
>>29288806
I have the takedown model, and it's been great so far. It's also easier to clean. Also, the little bag it came with is pretty solid. The portability factor also really sold me.

I can't say much about accuracy differences. It seems about as accurate as a 10/22 can be, but I'm sure there's some minor differences that probably only make a difference at wildly long distances. I've never shot it over 100 yds.

>>
>>29294290

That is a good way to clean black powder revolvers. It's how I clean my 1860 Colt. I usually don't take the grips off though. I just take the cylinder and small parts all out and throw them in hot soapy water. Then I use a tooth brush to clean the frame and run a soapy shotgun (.410 or 28 gauge, can't remember which I bought) swab down the barrel. Then I rinse all the soap off under warm running water and set everything out on a towel to dry after shaking the water out.

I live in a really dry climate though, so the blow dryer is a pretty good idea. Then if you gave everything a good coat of ballistol and wiped off the excess I imagine you'd be golden.
>>
>>29295636
10/22 ,i wonder this as well.
>>
/K/ how would I go about replacing the chamber on an AR ?
Also is there any good how to techs on making a kydex holster?
>>

>>
>>29296470

The TNW certainly seems to be the best made of the three, but it's also the only one I've ever held. The Kel-Tecs are alright but feel shitty and have more recoil than they should. When I worked at a gun store, we had a guy having some issues with one, and I wasn't impressed with the build quality.

But from the pictures, that TNW looks dope. I kind of want one in 10mm to go with my 10mm 1911.

Yes. They won't be as accurate supposedly as they deform but they still work. Protip, if you ever plan on cutting the barrel it makes it a loose cylinder bore and reduces recoil. I've got a columbia sidewinder at 27" and it's the most fun you can have with a single shotgun.

That really depends on you patience level. I've had my Ruger 10/22 for 19 or 20 years now and it's still in wonderful condition. used is used
just buying it and selling it like new in box unfired is already a price drop(unless its rare or discontinued)
round count doesnt matter unless the gun really shows wear like a shot out barrel or fucked up sliderails etc
1 round and 10000 might as well be the same thing

weight, p01 is light for an all metal pistol but still heavier than a glock.
the p01 will rust, the frame wont but the barrel sure as hell will being untreated steel.
hammers are annoying as shit if you carry iwb, jab you in the side/gut if you bend.
since its metal with full length rails you have to oil it. with a glock you should oil it but it will run fine without.

you can carry it if you want. i like the po1 its just more effort to carry compared to a glock.

Well its not terrible for normal prices, but I got one at Dicks for black Friday two years ago for $180 with a spare mag. But in the long run the cost difference is negligible compared to parts and ammo, so if you really want it now I'd go for it.

Also unless you have one of the chambers unloaded to rest the hammer on, you can never really make it safe. Also you can't drop it in water. What do I need to get into .300blk PROPERLY (not cutting corners) if I already have .308 reloading equipment?
>>
1. I have a cz75 D and I have two concerns with it. (apparently) I have bad wrist/grip/something, and it's a bitch for me to cock with an internal rail.

It bothers me but I'm not sure if it's a legitimate grievance or not.

2. When I cock it, I have to do it quickly and let the slide release from the end, meaning it pops in to actually get the bullet into place.
In other words, if I do it gently and try to somewhat hold onto it, bullet only loads halfway and somewhat stove-pipes or whatever it's called.
Is this kind of thing normal for all guns?
>>
>>29319635
You need .300 blk loading dies
For brass your options are buy new brass or cut and resize 5.56 brass
Everything else is pretty much the same for small rifle reloading
>>
I was at the outdoor range yesterday shooting .357 out a 6" barrel. The guy in the berm parallel to mine fired something perceivably louder, bassier (more deep, less crack) and just overall bigger sounding. He also fired at least 8 shots in a row, so I assume it's a semiautomatic pistol cartridge.

What might he have been shooting?
>>
>>29292358
I shot mine for the first time yesterday. It's pretty cool.

Very easy to clean - only problem was that it didn't accept my .22 boresnake very well and I couldn't get the little brass weight all the way down the barrel, using a rod worked fine though.

It was pretty accurate at 100 yards but the sights are plastic and feel cheap.

It has a threaded barrel if you want to add a muzzle device and the quad rail if you want any kind of attachment.

Great for the .22 hoarder because you're at most going to be firing 50 shots with it because you have to manually remove and toss the casing after every shot.

Worth the 150-200 you'll pay and turns heads/is a great talking point if you're social at the range.

Hope that helps.

i want to say yes at reduced capacity, you may also want to make some spacers to slip into the bottom of the pouch.

You can get away with two G3 magazines in a 3-magazine AR pouch, or 1 in a dual-magazine pouch. So make sure you know how many magazines it is supposed to hold

i like to use the alice 3-mag AR pouches and put two g3 mags in them
>>
>>29292034
I had mine for almost ten years, put THOUSANDS of rounds through her, barely oiled her, NEVER cleaned her, and still kept running. factory irons was spot on and well usable out to 100yrds. my only complaint was having to break in aftermarket magazines and the action was loud AF when suppressed. ran pretty good with sub-sonic rounds as well. occasionally had a hi-cup, but I attributed it to the ammo itself.

i used to airshit and use g3 mags. And i have a real g3 now too and they work the same. The airshit ones are like half an inch shorter because no feed lips, but it worked gud.

I have a feeling that LBE you are looking at has a 2-1 magazine setup. I know they made 1 or two generations of the LBE so you may want to do a little research, as i think one of them may differ in capacity which could benefit you.

go to your local gun shop and pick up a bottle of CLP. What advantages would realistically you get from being trained in Weaver stance, Isosceles Stance or any other 'stance'? Could one get bonuses for using them, or it just a benefit vs. someone who doesn't use one? Like, 'trained' vs.'untrained'?
Please advise.
>>
>>29322585
I've never heard of there being a huge advantage of one stance over the other. Personally I like weaver because it seems more adaptable if you want to shoot over or around cover.
>>
>>29322585
I get what you're saying. I'd say they all fall into "trained," and nothing more than that.

Have you considered having certain "drills" be used as lower "cost" attacks?

Mozambique Drill for instance, if it takes 5 WidgetPoints to shoot with a gun, maybe the Mozambique Drill only cost 10 total, even though it involves 3 shots?

Or maybe you have the Mozambique Drill cost 15 WidgetPoints, but it guarantees the last shoot (a head shot) to be critical.

How's that sound?
>>
>>29322762
That's cool. I was looking into all that. Like, I was thinking Mozambique Drill would be a 'skill' that has variable bonus for each shot, but:
1. You perform three shots.
2. They have varied hit-location (torso and head)
3. If you hit first two, you get a bonus for the last one.
Something like that.
Then there is the 'double tap', which just let's you shoot two times in the same hit location as a single action.
What I need are not only skills, but something like techniques and tactics. But, it is too early in the development to even think about something. I just wanted to ask about the stances, since maybe there are advantages of some sorts.
Do you get advantages/disadvantages for different positions? Like, shooting a handgun while prone, or shooting while crouching and so on? Any advice would come a long way.
>>
>>29322702
Thanks for the clarification, Anon!

looking to get my first gun

Im looking at either the SKS, the M305 (Norinco M14) or a Chilean (or any kind of) Mauser.

I'd look into getting optics for it in the future if that helps at all. Im in Canuckistan and have used guns before. The reason I want optics is both for hunting and even possibly practicing my marksmanship, I realize the SKS might not be best at that, but its price is tantalizing (I don't want to spend more than 600$).

if anyone has any good info on cheap mausers or m305's that would be welcome (BC-Vancouver area)

the SKS has a very mild recoil. very enjoyable to shoot. personally, I'd go with that. it won't beat up your shoulder as much as the other two. Also, molot makes a mount for the SKS that allows you to use AK style side mount optics.

>Is there any reason I should steer away from buying reloaded or remanufactured ammo?
If you have a gun that still has a valid warranty, you probably wouldn't want to shoot reloaded ammo out of it, because most manufacturers' warranties will not cover guns that were damaged by reloaded ammunition.

That's literally the only reason I can think of. And even then, that's a shitty excuse, and I know it.

kek, I actually had the exact same dilemma myself.

There's nothing bad about the M&P at all. In fact, you'll hear lots of good things. It's also at least $150 cheaper than the Glock 17, at least where I'm from.

That being said, I also like the Glock 17, because being that it's a Glock, there are so many aftermarket customization options. You can do so many things to it to make it really "yours." Also, no one really says anything bad about Glocks except for that shitty meme that only applies to one specific model of Glock that wasn't even 9mm.

This is getting off-tangent, but I really love the magazines. There are many different magazines of many different sizes (in the US, anyway), from many different brands. Can't find a genuine Glock magazine? That's okay, a billion other companies manufacture Glock 17 mags as well. I also like the versatility they offer. Glock 17 mags aren't only for Glock 17s. There are pistol carbines that you can get that will also take them. TNW, JRC, Sub2k, Kriss Vector. I personally am planning on getting the Glock 17 just so I can have a bunch of magazines, and a rifle or two that use the same magazines.

People use brass brushes to clean out the bore of a rifle. Most people stop at brass. Anything softer than that should be alright.

At worst, paper towels can leave paper fuzz in your bore. Not sure if that would even fuck with the ballistic qualities of your next shoot.

I'd be careful about using a bore brush, it can affect accuracy. if it's your plinker, then it's your call. if it's something you want accuracy out of, then I would highly advise against it. LRM shooters don't use a bore brush and just run a cleaning patch through the bore a shit load of times. even though it's brass, it can still leave grooves and marks in the rifling. that's what I was taught for 600m+ shooting anyways. also to go with the flow of the bullet and to be extra careful when using a cleaning rod to not damage to bore and crown.

Think hard about it and do it if it's what you really want. Don't join the military because you see it as your only option though, it's definitely not.

Mags will last AT LEAST 5-6 years loaded as long as you don't let them rust. You should cycle out ammo every six or so months just to be safe, keeps unsealed ammo from getting moisture in them.

You could probably leave them in a box in your garage for a decade loaded with the same ammo and have them work fine tho.

what he said. I've seen time and again people who joined because of this. because of their attitude, their time was made worse. You need to really think about it otherwise it WILL be hell. same with what MOS you want.

Quarter Circle 10 is making a neat 9mm AR in carbine and pistol set ups.

Depends how much you have to spend and what you want it for. Optics is a place that's generally pretty complicated depending on usage.

shamelessly bumping own question because I'd like more input.

Personally I would get much more satisfaction from getting a cheap SKS with a stock in bad shape but good action and turning it into a more modern firearm by putting upgraded components on it than simply buying a VZ.

Also SKS seems to have more character if that means anything.

A while ago I saw videos for a laser sight that displayed a circle of lasers that spread over a distance, at (roughly) the same rate as buckshot out of a cylinder bore. The idea being if you aim the lasers at your target, you know all of your pellets are hitting within the circle. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and, if so, can you provide me with a link or name?

It was a hasty improvisation meant to fill the role of a pistol during the Russian Revolution.

Dude, Crows are smart. You don't kill smart animals. Just bait them away.

Plus, it'd be a waste of money to get a gun to kill Crows. You only need to kill one, then the rest will scatter. That's what I hear, anyways...
