That's pretty much it. I suppose the dramatic increase in local crime also contributed.

When I was about 16, one of my friends took me shooting with him, some of the most fun I'd had in my life. We went every now and then after that, never telling my parents, because they would have freaked out. After I turned 18, I bought my first gun, a shitty 22, and had to hide it in my room until I moved out. My collection has expanded a lot since then.
>>
>>29285817
My cousin field stripped an AR-15 for me.
That was what did it.

However for I'd already decided I loved weapons because I came to the realization that they made me not afraid.
I saw an old commercial for a movie that scared the shit out of me, but then I realized that the people in the commercial weren't afraid because they had the tools to kill and hurt the shit trying to hurt them.
I slept with my nerf guns after that.

The AR was just the nail in the coffin.

I started off building rubber band crossbow type stuff as a kid, then I had a wooden pistol shape elastic gun I made that shot a bamboo dart with a metal tip. My parents weren't gun people at all, but they said if I built it, I could keep it.
>one day, try to dart a squirrel
>dart bounces off, squirrel flashes me the middle finger
>I must build something stronger
I found out about blowguns while researching weapon ideas, had some metal tube around, and soon I was killing and eating blackbirds and sparrows.
>one time I stunned a blackbird with a clay tipped dart, kept it as a pet for a while.
>still can't kill squirrels yet, these things have taken multiple blow darts and run off.
Tried out gas-combustion guns, too unreliable. Then I got into making black powder. I'm the Anon with the copper pipe guns. My next project will probably be a black powder revolver with a gas piston. Nice thread, OP.

15 playing with airport guns not the ones you buy at sport centers. But good ones online, like Tokyo Mauri WE, I had a glock 17 from Tokyo Mauri with metal slide and ever since that day I loved glock brand glock and guns in general.

Then when I turned 19 I got my first ak, good thing too cuz I was very close to buying an air soft ver of it.

losing the land soon and I wish so hard that I could go back and slap the shit out of my teenage self and tell him to not spend the weekend with his friends and either ditch them to go to the cabin or bring them with cause the weekend would've been a lot more fun, and I would've remembered it.

Raised redneck and white trash in the boonies. Was given slingshots, compound bows since I was five to build arm/hand strength/coordination. Never leave home unarmed, critters out there. BB guns when I was seven for responsibility and trigger discipline. First .22 at nine, keys to the farm truck at twelve. My buddy down the road got a shotgun and access to a swamp buggy when he turned eleven but we couldn't leave his yard with them, good thing it was a large parcel with massive fields of mud.
Growing up in South Florida swamps ruled!

I was.brought up in a household saying guns were bad. Family was defenseless when some meth addict neighbor broke into my home and killed my dad/brother. I was only 14 years old but I took a kitchen knife and killed the guy before he got to my sister. Since then I never wanted to get that close and personal in a defensive situation ever again. I much rather carry a handgun.

It was a coping measure when I turned of age, but in my mid-20's guns became a hobby and not just a self defense thing. It keeps me happy

Same here, my parents reaction was a combination of curiosity, denial, and fear. Funny stories about my dad incoming.

My dad regularly asks me questions about different guns and despite being a smart man cannot understand how they work. Internal mags confuse the hell out of him. He thought my SKS was tube fed like a shotgun and that "the bullets go up into the wood".

Then we moved onto calibers and he started researching ammo. He saw a program about the Vietnam war and came to me terrified that my x39 tulammo was sabotaged by the Viet Cong and that it would explode in my hands. He also thought you could load any ammo into any gun and that it would fire. I demonstrated putting an 8mm Mauser cartridge into my tokarev magwell that it was impossible, and he flipped out that I was loading a firearm indoors.

He is convinced most of my collection is Chinese knockoffs. When I came home with my VEPR he swore it was made in China and branded with Russian letters. He also thought I had bought a broken gun because of the side mount scope.

I'll post more if there's interest.

My dad owned a few guns for hunting when I was little, and still does. My uncle on my mom's side used to be a confirmed bachelor that put all his energy into guns and hunting, and I'd spend a lot of time staying at his place in the country during the summer.

I shot a .22 with my dad and uncle for the first time when I was 4 or 5, then got my 20 gauge when I was 12, and have been accumulating guns ever since.

I have 8 or 9 guns now, with half of them being WWI-II era bolt actions.

For me, it was a multitude of things, from being born into a large, Lebanese family with a 50/50 split of hardcore liberals and hardcore conservatives, to playing bideo games with my cousins.

I think the biggest one is the absolute shitshow about 10 years ago when my cousin (who was a cop at the time, now retired) brought a few of his favorite guns to my grandmothers at a small (read: 30 people) gathering. (I still have mo clue why he did it)

The moment people saw the cases shit hit the fan. My grandpa was excited as shit, grandma scared shitless, uncles arguing over wether he should open it or not, ect.

After the whole thing died down a bit, I asked him to open the cases, and if I could see what he had. Pic related, an M1911, and what looked like a Nugget graced my eyes. I was so fucking excited to see a real gun after seeing them in movies and games.

As I picked the M1911 up, there was another fucking burst of Arab screaming with both the pro and anti funs of the family showing their pleasure and displeasure, respectively.

After that, I got a lot of offers to go to the gun range, but since my parents were strict anti funs I never got to go until a few years later.

The liberal side of my family still calls him a "cult leader" who "indoctrinated" me into the scary assault weapon club.

When my youngest cousins turn 15 I'm going to do the same shit, hopefully it'll become a cycle.

It's about perspective. Do you remember the first time you shot a gun? I was 11-12, and my dad took me and my brothers to the range to shoot some .22 and 9mm pistols. I look back on it as being incredibly fun and new, and I really wanted to shoot the AR15 they had to rent there. I promised myself I would eventually fire it.

Now I'm 19 and my collection has only stopped growing because I don't have any money. I enjoy handling and cleaning them as much as I like shooting them.
>>
>>29290062
The perspective that's wrong is that they simply have decided not to give guns a chance. Those are the anti gunners, those and the fudds that aren't aware that they're anti gun.
>>
>>29290083
It's funny to watch any YouTube social experiment in general that has liberals firing weapons. The same. They are all the same. They go in anti, they shoot, they come out happy and far more lenient, if not even ashamed at themselves for having fun with their rights.

>>29285817

When I was young, my father had a substantial gun collection but I never really paid any attention. I did however have a good stash of NERF and cap guns from a young age.

Before I was old enough to start appreciating actual firearms or learning to shoot with my father, my family ran into some financial difficulty and he sold off most of his collection, only keeping a couple family heirlooms and hunting rifles.

I guess my interest just blossomed from the toy guns I had as a kid. In my teen years, I started really becoming interested. First I got a couple of airsoft guns, and then it took off from there.

When I turned 18, I had two guns. A single shot .410 from my father, and a 91/30 that I bought myself. 6 years later, I have well over a dozen firearms.

From the beginning that I remember I had an interstate in warfare and stuff like it so I always thought guns were cool but going to the rifle range in the boy scouts and getting to fire one of the assistant scout masters M1A was the thing that really got me into them.
>>
I realized on day on /b/ that in every innawoods.net thread people assumed /k/ would fuck everybody up. So from there I realized I didn't k ow shit about guns. 4 years of /k/ later and I have come to love the bomb and only go back to /b/ for traps.

My father
When i was young i would always watch him shoot muzzle loaders out the back of the house.
He bought me a m38 mosin at 12 for Christmas. I've been hooked ever since.
He passed away last month, at my house in his sleep.

The Boy Scouts. Plinking around with a little .22, then we got to play with shotguns, then one of the dads was like "Hey kids, wanna shoot targets with my ARs?"

I ended up getting kicked out of the troop for being gay but it started an itch that I just couldn't scratch until I could get my own guns a few years later.

>dad takes his old single shot .22 and the three of us trespass onto this old outdoor range he went to in college
>hands me loaded rifle
>crying 'dad, i don't want to! it'll hurt! i'm scared!'
>"don't worry, just pull the trigger son. everything will be fine."
>pull trigger
>best feel i've ever felt
>10 years later

My father. Taught he how to use and respect firearms with his pump BB-gun, and when I was a teenager, we would go hunting and target practice.

Today, I now like the mechanical parts of firearms. I like to take apart my pistols and SKS and just explore how everything works.

>grew up in Montana
>shot guns my whole life
>grandpa was the sheriff
>moved to Colorado
>lived through Columbine shooting
>sudden realization that weapons aren't just for fun/hunting
>become an adult
>live every day knowing I am the only person responsible for defending myself and my family

I can't actually remember a time when weapons weren't a normal part of nearly every day life.
