Killing little furry woodland critters that are unfortunate enough to wander onto your homestead.

.22lr is the gateway drug of guns. First tou're with your friends plinking, and then a month later you're slinging .45 ACP into a bank teller to afford your addiction.

And some states want to legalize. Makes my blood boil.

Not only is the ammo cheap and abundant (though not as such since Sandy Vagina and the fudds hoarding it all), the rifles are cheap too.

You can get a 10/22 for $200 to $220 on sale.

Marlin 795s are under $150, but they aren't as good as they used to be. I got mine back in 1997 though.

>>
>>29282150

Not with a 20 inch bolt gun

It's 130 decibels, which is below the threshold of damage for impulses.

Your 16" 10/22 or pistol? Sure.

Anyway, .22LR is for target shooting, hunting small game and assassinations.
>>
>>29282230
It doesn't matter about your anecdotes, .22lr is objectively loud enough to require earpro over time.

Not trying to be offensive just saying
>>
>>29280830
He's right.i started doing .22 when I was just 14, stole some of my dad's. By 18 I was using buck shot, robbing convenience stores all over the Midwest to just get the next box.

Now I sleep with my Scar, spent 5.56 wrapped around me like a sea. I don't even remember the bank robbery, I just remember picking it up from my FFL dealer.

Now I tried my buddies .50 Beowulf. And now I need more. My last option is at hand- my greatest heist yet- Fort Knox

Then I can afford my addiction for life.
>>
shit's cheap as dirt compared to most calibers, and can do just as much damage shooting someone as a 9mm. What's not to love?
>>
>>29282257
I'm getting a 28 inch barrel .22lr very soon, wish I had a way to measure the decibels but I'm not spending loads of money.

Even for impulses of sound at 130db I would personally still wear earpro, continued exposure to that level can still damage hearing so I'd rather not risk it.
>>
>>29282259
im not offended. I am just saying that as a kid I fired about 1000 rounds a month for years. in my teens I had my hearing tested by a doctor and it was found to be above average. so you saying that every .22 rifle puts out 130+db is FUDD. not every gun puts out the same db for a given caliber. that is just stupid.
>>
>>29282259

Depends on the gun

20 inch bolt gun is 130 decibels with supersonic ammo; army did a study and you can shoot that indefinitely without problems (130 decibel single impulse).

It's only with 16" barrels, open bolts (sound exits with the ejected case) or pistols where it's 140 and over.
>>
>>29282300
Maybe your hearing was even better and the slight loss still didn't put you into average? I'm just saying everyone who knows hearing says ear pro with .22, every shooter I've seen that I trust uses earpro with .22, I am going to use earpro with .22 and I think everyone should to avoid damage even if it's minor, or maybe even undetectable.

>>29282315
Do you have a link to that study?

I also wonder how much louder the higher velocity .22lr loads are

I don't think its the magical survival ultimate plinking and hunting round like this fuckers with piles of it do. I've only found 2 uses for it: showing girl how to shoot gun, and fishing gun.

If it was survival mode I can shoot .38 special at small game and .357 at larger game, in one gun, so fuck your survival .22. When fishing in local areas, I carry a piece of shit heritage 22 because my S&W isn't going to be around a bunch of water and fish guts, and I can fire off a few rounds at a snake, a nutria, or absolutely nothing, without plugging my ears or alerting every fudd trying to catch bass or every hippie trying to smoke weed with nature.

Those same people having adjacent land to my father's farm. But I know they've shot at deer with the shit cause my uncle has bagged two bucks with small holes in them during slug season. BTW dnr does shit about that unless caught in the act same with trespassing.

Touché, I concede small mag size. I think they did that because of the assault weapon ban years.

But for the warranty, low cost, low cost ammo, and reliability I think you would find it hard to get a similar deal. Kel tec sub2000 maybe, with them extendo clip Glock mags maybe, but idk much about kel tecs. At cx storm and p90 prices I think you may as well look at an AR.

Yeah, cosmetically I love the Cx and the CZ Skorp Evo, but fuck me if I'll pay battle rifle prices for PCC performance. I just want to make to get the 15-round mags as well. It's not 20/30 but it's something.

>plinking

What kind of retarded concept is this? If you just want to boringly shoot a tiny round why not shoot a bb gun? It's way cheaper and you don't have to clean it.

.22lr used to be as cheap as a bb gun, now it's pointless because idiots will pay $5 for 50 rounds driving up the cost. It was a no-brainer when it was $1 for 50, essentially it was just a bb gun (that you can't shoot your friends with). No it's not going to teach you any fundamentals of marksmanship, other than how to line up sights, because there's no recoil. Stop spreading that fuddlore.

It's also not a good survival rifle. Head me out: anything you can kill with .22lr you can catch in a snare or similar trap. Snare wire is way lighter and takes up less space in a pack than a rifle and a bunch of .22 bullets, and it's reusable. You can set up 100 snares and catch a shit ton of small game for much less carry weight, and use the weight you would have wasted for a real gun that can take large game and protect you better.

Its most likely the best round for home defense. It is cheap and reliably. You can shoot it out of a roll of paper if you wanted to and use the gunpowder in any other cartridge you want because of its common size and shape of the powder it results in high velocity.

up here in Canuckistan 22LR is the only thing that doesn't have mag limits for semi auto rifles. Meaning I can get one of those 75 round drums for a semi-auto 22, but I'm stuck with 5 rounds for any centerfire

I don't know any more. Maybe as a cheap handgun cartridge since there's no good alternative?
Because I'd just as soon use a pellet rifle now for cheap long gun plinking, otherwise I may as well just jump up to something actually fun to shoot.

Pretty sure there's a 3 round magazine cap on shotguns.

Only if they only have a shotgun certificate. If they have a full on FAC then it's higher.

I have my .22s for a few reasons.
1. It's cheap, and I shoot a lot on a budget.

2. My little brother sorta likes shooting, but hates noise and recoil. He wanted something he could shoot and not be afraid of, and use in the zombie apocalypse if the time comes.

3. I take a lot of anti-gunners shooting for their first time. So I bought an MP5 clone chambered in .22 to introduce them to spoopy "assault rifles" and show them they're not all bad.

It may be a glorified BB gun, but guns is guns and I'm poor
>>
>>29280756
If I was inna mountains and could only shoot small game i'd obviously take a .22 with me.
>>
>>29289832
Good for squirrels and gophers around the house.

22 shotshells are perfect for attic and garage squirrel removal.
>>
>>29285908
Why the fuck would you want 9mm for a rifle?

>like a bb gun

into the trash it goes

Seriously, anyone who doesn't like .22 doesn't really enjoy shooting

Literally every serious gun aficionado I've ever met (and I mean they own more than ten guns) has a .22. Fags who buy center fire rifles and Deagles exclusively are total tryhard fags who can't get a submoa grouping at 25 yds with a scope.

.22s are THE SHTF rifles and pistols

long after everyone has run out of 7.62x39 Tula and .223 American Eagle, there will still be .22s spitting lead.

Get bent fagggggg

>>29289832
Live innamountains and I've killed literally hundreds of squirrels and rabbits in my life with .22

I like that post number. I agree with you as well, I myself have around 26,000 .22 stocked up
>>
When are the fucking .22 hoarders going to start dying so their relatives can sell that shit dirt cheap?
I could drive to 10 stores that sell ammo right now and not find a single round of .22 in any of them.
Some of you fuckers are lucky that the hoarders have slowed down in your area, but it's still on in full force where I live.

You know what's going to happen? The hoarders start croaking, then their nogunz next of kin turn it all in to the police for destruction.

In a shtf scenario I'm willing to bet that:
1- you won't be shooting that much, this isn't the walking dead and even in societies without real law people weren't running around with swords and bows killing everyone, everywhere, all the time.
2- the government would likely restore some kind of order within a year in some areas, and within 5 years most major infrastructure will have been reclaimed
3- re loaders, looted armories, and trade will fill the need for everyone else

My aunt is the sporting goods department manager at the Canton, Ga Wal-Mart. For over a year now, she has been holding every box of .22 that comes into the store for me. I go in to buy it, she goes on break and buys it for me with her discount. It works out great.
I checked inventory this week and I have over 100k rounds of various brands.
>>
>>29299764
I fucked your aunt up the ass.
I peeled down her lane bryant stretch pants
I separated her sweaty ass cheeks
I pulled out my dick
And I shoved it in dry

Then I stole some .303 British and left her a quivering mass of jello

Put on earpro NOW.
