>maximize target profile
>have to land upside down like an asshole

dafuq is the point of this fighter design?
>>
The designer really hated thrust vectoring?
>>
It's not a fighter, it's a cargo ship with some heavy armament
>>
>>29276229
It's a movie about space wizards defeating evil through the power of love and shiny energy swords and THIS is the problem you have with its realism?
>>
>>29276288
exactly

i mean even as a purely offensive weapon it couldn't even be used in a kamikazi attack...
>>
>>29276303
>>29276229
The designer really hated thrust vectoring?
>>
>>29276229
The design was inspired by a street lamp outside of Industrial Light and Magic

http://www.starwars.com/news/from-concept-to-screen-slave-i
>>
>>29276320
Lolol actually no, I'm wrong. My own link directly refutes my assertion.
>>
>>29276303
hmph...id like to know where you learned this

>>29276312
yes

the basis of fiction is plausibility in the context that it inhabits. no fighter pilot in their universe would willingly pilot that thing
>>
>>29276326
thanks, i dont even have to click
>>
>>29276303
plus why the fuck would you want a cargo ship that landed upside down? unless your storage compartments are all shaped to contain a very specific container design...
>>
>>29276229
It looks like a face with silly ears and that's pretty dope, I guess.
>>
>>29276373
Oh fuck you now I can't unsee it
>>

>>29276229
>maximize target profile
At 10,000+ miles of distance between combatants in vacuum, profile isn't a substantial part of combat

And with no air resistance shape has virtually nothing to do with efficiency of flight, as long as its movers can generate thrust in the intended direction, and it can fire weapons in all notable directions,m it's as good as any other ship.
>>
things like "upside down" don't really matter all that much when you have artificial gravity like they do in Star Wars.
>>29276335
Probably by watching the fucking movies? You know like the part where Boba Fett tells them to put Solo in his cargo hold? We know what Fighters look like in Star Wars and Slave 1 is too big to be one.
>>
>>29276229
About as stupid as the B-Wing design.
>Keeps pilot in the center at all times allowing for "advanced flight maneuvers"
>Weapons are way out from center-mass, making it absolutely terrible at infighting despite it being armed for in-fighting
>Being armed for in-fighting, yet classified as an assault fighter

Like, did they put any thought into that?
>>
>>29276416
you could put those same guns on the ends any normal figher and fire in any direction

plus at 10,000+ miles firing a laser, that moves in a straight line at a finite speed, at a moving target would make it pretty fucking useless at that range too

i mean maybe you theoretically have an advantage against ground based radar but then you remember you're supposed to be a fucking spaceship
>>
>>29276420
>Probably by watching the fucking movies?

implying the movies are remotely as good as the old EU

>>29276450
its way worse than the b-wing through because their profile could be considered still "thin"

this thing is just a big flying dart board with you sitting in the bullseye

Ever heard of believability within the context of high fantasy? You give them the things that make their universe unique, the things they explicitly make a point to separate from standard reality, but everything else should operate within the practicality and rules of standard reality

The article might debunk it, but I am positive that Lucas/Mccallum or one of the other producers told that story on the Empire director's commentary track
>>
>>29276229

The design is comfy and genius.

The cell for high priority targets is located in between the two main laser cannons.

If you try to blow up the ship's cannons you risk killing the prisoner.
>>
>>29278773

Jar Jar was a good idea because he was supposed to be Palpatine's sith master, the true Phantom Menace.

But fags like you made Lucas pussy out and instead we got the Dooku shit.

It's an anti-capital craft that can double as a heavy fighter.
>>
>>29276303
It's a Firespray-31 Patrol and Attack craft, it's an interceptor.

>disorient your prisoner before landing
It actually makes sense.
Still, the blm movement would throw a hiss fit about this after what happened to freddie gray
>>
>>29276450
The pilot is actually way out from center mass in a gyroscopically stabilized cockpit. That middle bulk is an engine or something and the entire ship rotates around the cockpit.
>>
The point is shit writing
>>
>>29276229
The Firespray's actually a prison transport and guard vehicle. Not a fighter.

It's neither a fighter nor a true cargo haul, but a mid-range interceptor and prison patrol craft. The "cargo", if any, are incapacitated prisoners. It's designed to transport said prisoners to and from penal colonies and shoot down escape or infiltration attempts.
>>
>>29276553
>fires two kiloton energy bolts
>two kiloton

So esentially he has a semi auto weapon capable of destroying swaths of a city with each shot.

Is every ship to ship weapon in the kiloton range? Because in that case literally every other person owning a ship is carrying around weapons of mass destruction capable of incinerating cities.

Thats horseshit. Jar jar was meant to be doofy and appealing to children from the start, even in the concept art.

He actually started out with a dorky pet/sidekick named blarth, or blarf or something that "was very clumsy and constantly seeking attention and affection who tended to get underfoot a lot and cause distaster despite his good intentions"

In otherwords the annoying slapstick comic relief sidekick almost had an annoying slapstick comic relief sidekick of his own.

It is. Star Wars energy weapons are described as delivering serious amounts of energy (although it's all localized). Capital ship weapons are measured in megatons.
>>
>>29289299
Gee its almost as if they were designed with toy sales in mind or something.

>people forming an emotional attachment to fictional series.....

Is exactly what said series marketing is designed to do, people spend more money when they think they have personal connection to the charecters and objects.

I wish they left in the old pre-Legends pre-prequels canon that it was custom made for Boba Fett by KDY, as told in the bounty hunter trilogy.

He was easily the coolest character and it was almost entirely due to the mystery surrounding his character, and they thought it was a good idea to show his face, make him a babby clone, and make his dad the origin of all his cool stuff. Do you wear the exact same clothes as your dad? didn't think so.
>>
>>29291848
yeah they really didn't handle boba fett well in the prequels

but that is kinda par for the course for those movies
