Hey /k/

I'm home visiting my family and my dad brought these guys out. I forgot we had them. My grandfather brought two swords and a bayonet home with him after he visited Japan and Russia with the army after the bombs were dropped.

I think the thicker sword is Russian and the thinner sword is Japanese. The bayonet might be Japanese as well. It's pretty rounded with on the tip being sort of pointy. Is that common for bayonets? or could this be a practice bayonet if that exists?

I'll post close-up pictures of engravings on the swords

Might be hard to make out, but the design on this sword is pretty intricate. We think this one is Russian.

Two markings on the other side of the maybe Russian sword.

That's all I have. The bayonet has no markings of any kind besides the number 7 on the base of the blade.

The sabre on top is some sort of kyu-gunto, a japanese blade with a western-like handguard and grip (duh), they were developped during and after the Meiji era up until the interwar, after that, they reverted back to katana-like weapons. Basically, it's a japanese officer sabres, quality is very different from one to another, depends of the officer it was intended to.

The middle one is probably russian, by the look of the blade, check for markings...

The bayonet looks like a typical arisaka one, maybe a type 30, you should check the list of japanese bayonets on worldbayonets.com, it looks a bit short but that may be me.

Bayonet Is Japanese I don't know about the swords though

Middle definitely Russian.

Well looks like you have three pre-WW1 / WW1 blades. The gunto is probably not older than the 1910's, on a sidenote, most of them weren't made with the best traditional method, but a quick manufacture method kinda like the late Feudal-era. They might not be the toughest blade there is, but they are utilitarian, plus japanese blade with a western grip is funky.

Sabre definitely looks like tsarist era as was pointed.

Bayonet is indeed most certainly a type 30 bayonet for an arisaka rifle, either a type 38 or a type 99.

Nothing grand, but historical and pretty nice overall, lucky bastard...

on japanese industrial WWII blades this markings are usually arsenal identifyers, and sometimes the factory.

Top one looks like a 1889 type 32 gunto.

Not sure about the bottom one, looks like a 1881m shaska. Cant tell as to their authenticity though, but the shaskas can fetch a pretty nice price given that they're in good condition.

Holy shit. My family just sort of assumed they were WWII-era weapons. That's fucking awesome. Any specific sites for sourcing on any of this? or should google just do the trick? I can't really tell them 4chan told me this and that be my only source lol

Looking through some literature, the marking means Zlatoust Arms Manufactory, and it is indeed an 1881 model officers shaska. Would date it early, probably 1881 or 82. The older model in my book has the same hilt but not the etchings, the newer models up to 95-00 atleast have a different hilt but the same etchings.
