Are Winchester pump actions good?
>>
To me the determining factors that make a good shotgun are materials strength, button location, ease of disassembly, and the ability to ghost load.

They range between decent and good.

Model 12s are excellent.

I have one of the newer Ultimate Defenders. Aside from being made in Turkey (which admittedly isn't much of a problem barring sentiments), I think it's a pretty decent shotgun. Action feels nicer than a stock Mossberg 500 or Rem 870, it's not fussy with ammunition, and the overall assembly feels solid. My biggest complaint is the lack of available accessories here in Canada.

Next to Browning, they're the smoothest pump I've ever felt. My brother had a Defender, police riot 12 gauge. Shot the fuck out of it, it was a great shotty.

Would buy over a Mossy or a Remington/10.

I picked up a 1300 xtr for $225. The ejector retainer snapped where it pins into the receiver(apparently a common problem) but my LGS says he can fix it for $25. Downside is he's about a 10 day wait due to all the other work he has to get done. My right handed friends don't like the slide release since it is on the left side just to the rear of the trigger guard, but I like it. Overall, I like it more than mossy 500 or rem 870.

I have a 1300 produced sometime in the '80's and it's by far the smoothest 12 gauge I've ever shot. Pump slides like butter and it shows no wear despite thousands of rounds.

Can't speak for the newer ones.

>Are Winchester pump actions good?
They're the best damn pump actions ever made!!!!
There are replicas being sold of their old designs. New Turkish built ones are even good and the American made Winchester guns are off the hook.

Let's look at the 1897, it was packed full of features not seen on pump actions of today.
>break down, cleanly in half, no mag tube sticking out the receiver like today.
>slamfire capable
>easy unloading
What do I mean by easy unloading? The slide stop arms pivot on screws that are screwed in from the bottom. This allows you to "pinch" the receiver by pressing a button on either side to rapidly evacuate the magazine tube.

The model 12 is as >>29208202 mentioned "excellent". It's a tank of a gun that can hold up to slamfire like a pro.

The Winchester 1300 has a chrome lined chamber and rotating locking bolt like an AR putting all the stress in the barrel and allowing for a light aluminum receiver. I've had mine forever and it's still perfect.

The new SXP are basically copies of the 1300 but come with other great features depending on the options. They're the fastest pump you can, only autos are faster. Mine has a rubberized finish and fully chrome lined barrel.

Winchester is FUCKING AWESOME!

The Ithaca 37 and Benelli M1 are guns off the top of my head that allow you to do that as well.

Same
Newer ones are made in Turkey, they're not as "smooth" but they're faster.

Did not know but good company to be in IMO, especially for a gun that outdates them.

>The Ithaca 37 is based on a 1915 patent by the famous firearms designer John Browning, initially marketed as the Remington Model 17

>The Winchester Model 1897 was designed by the famous American firearms inventor John Moses Browning. The Model 1897 was first listed for sale in the November 1897

I put a lot of money and time in mine because the wear on it had some rust and I just can't do rust.

It doesn't have any anymore and the bore even looks brand freaking new.
