/k/ I got a concealed carry permit and I need to know of a small pistol that still has enough stopping power to stop the never ending shitstorm of muggers where I go to work at late night. I have pretty high price range (up to $1250) and will buy extra mags and a holster. I need it to be compact yet strong and have a clipsize of maybe 5 or more bullets. What ya guys got? Pic semi related. It can be bigger than this. I know I can only hope for so much

The sccy seems like a reasonable option, personally I wouldn't go with anything less than 9mm
>>
>>29207528
I felt the same way. But I just want to get the opinion of the board before I go to my local gunshop/online retailer and buy something that wouldn't stop a squirrel
>>
>>29207497

Glock 19.

SCCY is not very good quality.
If you really want a pocket pistol get something like a ruger LCP
>>
>>29207497
I carry either a PPK or officer sized 1911, but I consider my chances of ever using it exceptionally low. If I at all expected to be mugged I would make accommodation for a full size, hi-cap 9mm such as a CZ75. More important than what you carry is being able to draw and fire quickly under stress.

Also with all the BLM unrest consider the possibility that there may be a group of people that want to murder you with a hammer, so mag changes may be in order.
>>
>>29207778

+1 for a Glock 19. Raven Concealment for holster, 124 grain Speer Gold Dots for carry ammo, spend money on a good pistol class after that.

Only weakness of the G19 is most factory sights suck.
>>
>>29207804

This. My light carry gun is a 3" S&W .357, but just on shot capacity I am thinking I need to upgun.
>>
>>29207815
I'd probably need work on drawing fast enough while keeping my aim steady otherwise on the range I shoot pretty well. I can usually hit the inner rings and on dummies I can always get a good lungshot. Might need to learn under pressure though.
>>
>>29207916

That's why you need a good coach. Look for a FB group called P&S- Novice and Intermediate and there are some very good training opportunities available.
>>
>>29207778
What's wrong with the sccy? The cpx2 seems to get consistently favorable reviews.
>>
>>29208124

Reviews are one thing. Me, I tend to look at what people who use guns for a living buy. S&W revolvers, Colt or Springfield 1911s, ARs that exceed .mil TDP like DD or Noveske, Colt or FN as baseline. And Glocks are a world standard for a reason.

There are hobby guns, maybe someday I will need this guns, and I Fucking Know I Am Going To Be Locked And Loaded Tomorrow guns.

Try not to mix those categories.

check out the CZ75 D vs the Block 19

CZ looks way fucking cooler aka menacing and in my experience scares people more due to appearance more than the glock so extra intimidation points.

remember, avoidance is also key to firearm training

the quality of CZ and its insane accuracy trumps the block

its expensive if you shoot somebody even in defense.

Take your pick, both are quite comfortable.
>>
If you're new to carrying - Ruger LC9s, S&W Shield, or Glock 43.

All very easy to conceal, all very small, all very highly regarded and reliable. And 9mm is the gold standard of self-defense cartridges.
>>
>>29208290
>I tend to look at what people who use guns for a living buy

I think people give police and military forces way too much credit. The entire acquisition process is based around getting the cheapest possible equipment that meets minimum standards.

Having shot a SCCY. it's only good if you take into account the price. OP said he has a high budget, so why settle for the SCCY? It has a heavy trigger, meh ergos, and takedown is a pain. It's a reliable gun that will go bang every time, but it's not got the same quality as bigger name guns and it shows.

If you're looking specifically for CC, the big trend right now is Single Stack 9s. They're slim enough to disappear under a t shirt during the summer. M&P Shield, Glock 43, Springfield XDs, Walther PPS, and Ruger LC9s are all good options. Each one has pros and cons, and having shot all of them (and because I'm a lefty) I carry the Walther.

The most important thing is to find a gun you shoot well, and feel comfortable with. If you can, go to a range and rent a bunch of guns until you find a subcompact gun you like.

>>29207778
Is also a valid point. Compact guns (Glock 19, M&P9c, FNSc, etc) are great for carry, and offer massive improvements in the number of rounds you can carry.

>>29208815
The last fucking thing you should ever worry about is how scary your gun looks. That's fucking stupid. CZs can be nice, for CC I'd look at the P-01. Stock they lack some of the fit and finish of other brands, but there's almost Glock tier aftermarket and they can be tuned up nicely.

.380 would be alright, but if you want to step it up to 9mm take a look at the Sig 938.

I like my sig p238, I know it's a .380, but there is the p938 which is 9mm. The p238 is a dream in my opinion, easy take down, night sights are standard, I feel that the safety is big enough to be usable, but not so big it's intrusive. Also if you are on the revolver side of things I like my chiappa rhino 200ds a lot, the only thing I don't like is the lack of accessories for the rhino.
>>
>>29208894
absolutely, never buy a gun based on looks just saying its what adds to extra points the CZ gets

I own both a block and cz75 D and when my non gun friends react to the pistols people usually always loose their shit over the CZ which I argue will make your attacker shit his pants more and hopefully GTFO

and it's sexy, more points haha
>>
>>29208962

Take it from experience OP

If you buy a .380 you will wonder why you didn't buy a 9mm every time you look at it

Plus .380 ammo is stupid-expensive and hard to find

Stopping power is just a meme. Unless your target is wearing body armor or behind a wall, 9mm Hollow Points is more than enough to put someone down
>>
What are ya'lls thoughts on the FNX 9 as a ccw? I've been considering picking one up mainly cuz I'm tired of trying to conceal full size 1911s and I'm kind of at a loss on where to go...
>>
>>29207497
Any sub compact semi automatic DA/SA handgun.
I'd reccomended the compact Jericho, but that's just me.

Do you have any experience with the P938? I'm interested in it for a CC because I already have a 9mm P320, so it makes sense to keep my weapons in the same caliber, and I'd like a bit more than a 380.

>>29209144
Terrible choice. The FNX has a giant grip and will print like a sumbitch, not to mention the giant safety/decocker that will easily be shifted around during carry. If you're tired of carrying a full sized gun, don't buy another full sized gun.
>>
>>29209283
Rosewood grips looks the sexiest to me.

But I want the Blackwood body.

SAS model is pretty sexy too.

I can't decide.
>>
>>29209372
I can appreciate that. Although even as a full size gun the FNX is still smaller than my Sig Emperor Scorpion. I'm still kind of hung up on having a larger size weapon, just not as large as what I have currently
>>
>>29209412
They're both about 5.5" tall. If you're looking at FNs for carry, consider the FNS compact.
>>
>>29209412
In all honesty, I'm trying to keep the level of faggotry to a minimum while I make the decision on what to get, but after only owning 1911s there are a few things that I just overall prefer.

I like to have a bit longer of a barrel, and the option of DA/SA at the very least
>>
>>29209458
I've heard horror stories about slide peening with the FNS. Have they corrected that issue?
>>
Get a non-shit 380 and hollow point ammo. If you don't know what kind of gun to get, get a glock. No one will respect you but no one will really criticize your choice, and it won't break. Don't forget to take it to the range and learn how to fucking use it.

For *concealed carry* in the modern world, 380 is a good choice. Hollow points, even in 380, will kill a man at the ranges you would be shooting with your CC gun. 9mm is tolerable but requires heavier, more expensive guns for no meaningful increase in stopping power.

I CC a fucking .32acp and I have no doubt I could kill at least 2 nig nogs. If you get jumped by more than that without prior warning, you need to be carrying a fucking rifle, also move to a nicer ghetto.
>>
>>29209505
Never heard of that as a problem. Only issue I'm aware of with the FNS line was a trigger lockup problem that has been resolved, as well as an issue with recoil springs being too heavy and requiring a break in period.
>>
>>29209587
I heard about it on the internet, therefore it must be true...
>>
>>29209255
I have fired a few, it functions identically to the p238, I really liked my p238, the thing is a dream, it conceals nicely, shoots well. Overall I am happy with the p238 and I found the p938 ro be a little snappy, but if you prefer 9mm I can't think of a better sub compact 9mm
>>
>>29207497
Can you comfortably conceal a Glock 19?

15+1 rounds of 9mm ought to do the trick, if so.
>>
>>29209622
Thanks friend. I'm supremely interested in this gun because its not only sexy, but looks like it good placement on all of its controls.

How do you carry your 238? Pocket or IWB?

Also be prepared to put at least 500 rounds through it after getting it.

Having a gun isn't as helpful if you don't know how to shoot it well.

You should be able to go from nogunz to "I can shoot a handgun reasonably well" within 750 rounds or so.
>>
>>29207497
I like the p2000sk. the sig 938 is a nice one too- but the feel of that p2000sk with extended mag. have yet to grope the p30sk but im sure thats a nice one too.
>>
>>29209555
9mm is considerably cheaper to shoot than .380 and same mag capacity. id say go 9
>>
>>29208985
>.380 ammo is stupid-expensive and hard to find

you are so fucking wrong. if you know how to use the internet you can get it for just about the same price as 9mm
>>
>>29208887

True, which is why I look at where either SF units go COTS and what trainers who need their guns to run use.Vickers with DD, Pat Rogers with BCM, Defoor with Colt, I think....
