Maverick 88 is literally an economy version of the Mossberg 500, with some design changes and non-interchangeable parts to make it cheaper. No real differences in terms of reliability or handling, although the different safety location can take getting used to, and the finish on the Maverick is cheaper than the 500 IIRC.

I've had a Mav88 for years and it works just fine. The action on the pump is a little long for my taste but between the two they are the same. That said there are great deals to be had at a pawn shop or Cabelas on used Browning BPS. If you can score one for around $225 they are a great value.

Had a maverick. Really solid shotgun. Would serve you well for sure. Put anything from 00buck to dragonsbreath through it , runs just like a pump should. That said, id go with the 500just because slightly better quality, and the primary reason; aftermarket (if you are into that type of thing) if you find the maverick security edition, id personally get that over a stock 500 think its 8+1. Thats just awesome. Gread guide gun i bet.

This is not true, the stock configuration is different between the two.

The only parts that will not interchange is the trigger group, due to the different safety locations.

Any 500 design or variation cannot take a magazine extension due to the barrel nut threading into and capping the magazine.

Not true. The only difference between the two is the lack of for end bushings on the maverick. The will interchange but you must get a complete for end assembly with action bars.

to put it simply if you intend on fuckin with it buy the mossy cause its potential is better and its immediatly compatible with more things

if the only accessories will be a sling and ammo mav is perfectly adequate

the moss will be perfectly adequate in stock form too but harm your wallet more
