Leupold vxr patrol.

>1.25-4x magnification
>optional red dot illumination
>zeroing is a breeze of you read the fucking manual.
>diamond coat on outer lense
>crystal clear glass

If you can get your hands on one it'll sell itself. Only complaint is it's not very friendly on shooting with both eyes even on the lowest setting
>>
Dont skip out on Optics since you bought a SCAR. by a good 1x4 optic from vortex or a nice 10x from leupold
>>
>>29136425
I'm guessing mommy or daddy bought it. Any adult who'd purchase a scar would already have optics picked out
>>
>>29136425
Yeah I know I love the iron sight on it and I will mainly be using that. But I wanted a scope so so I can shoot long range if I get in the mood. So that why I'm not really into breaking the bank on a real expensive scope

>>29136448
Thanks I'll start doing my research asap thanks

Dude I work offshore..... something your basement Dwellings ass could never even think about doing.
>>
>>29136456
nigga, I have had a scar getting close to 4 years and I still don't know what optic I want on it. I'm going to be putting a bush 1-4 just to serve as something because I'm unsure if I want a leup mk4 1.5-5 or a nf 2.5-10x24.

I figure putting the bush 1-4 will solidify whether I want the low power leup mk4 or not.
>>
>>29136392
If you dont spend at least 1k on glass for a scar, you probably shouldnt have gotten it. w/e buddy you will learn.
>>
>>29136448

4x feels like such a waste on a .308 though. If you were only using it as a 200 yard range toy, it will work, but if he can afford the 17, why not step up to the Mark 6 or even the Mark 8?
>>
>>29136465

Oh, in that case, just about any 3-9x hunting optic on a quality quick-detach mount would be fine then.
>>
>>29136566
This. .308 deserves more magnification.
>>
In that range? I'd either get an Aimpoint or save up for a better optic. I have 2 SCAR 17s one has an NF 2.5-10x x42mm and the other has nothing mounted yet but I'm leaning toward an Aimpoint or Elcan because it's more for blasting old office equipment than shooting longer distances.
>>
>>29136566
4x can get you out to 400 even with shit eyesight, like mine.

I wouldn't go with a mk6 because 1 they short you on the obj lense. Being only a 20mm is retarded on a 1-6 and would have been a better choice at 24mm. The mk 8 would have been better served with a little larger obj as well since it has an almost 8x mag range. Now with the lense coatings it has, the 24mm obj may be fine but imho I'd prefer a 26/28mm lense. Comparing two middle of the road low power variables, Bush 1-8.5 and Burris 1.5-8, you can tell on max power that the extra lense diameter on the Burris helps to keep a brighter picture.
>>
Like I said I'm will to spend 600. But I I see something I really really like at 1000 or so I would get it that's why I'm asking for any tips on which is the best. I'll be shooting at the range of say 300 to 400 yards when I take it to the long outdoor range. And I'll just shoot with the iron sight when I'm around my house.
>>
>>29136566
It really is, and I feel the 1-4x recommendations are largely hold-overs from the era of prohibitively expensive 1-6x and 1-8x optics. 1-4x is ideal for a short- to mid-range AR-15 but it really feels like a waste on a .308.
>>
>>29136620
If that's the distance you're going to be shooting, than there is nothing at all wrong with a 1-4x. I'd highly recommend SWFA's 1-4x. It's durable, the reticle is well-designed, and it's not going to break the bank. Just remember, when you're ordering mounts for the SCAR make sure the levels are on the opposite side of where you intend to place the charging handle or you're going to have a bad time.
>>
>>29136620
Look at a burris xtr2 1-5 cq mil. you can find them for sub 725.

You know, I guess I made the assumption that he'd be using the rifle in the same way I use mine. I like to rapid fire at the 50 and post up on the bipod at 300yds(most I've got). Maybe he has a better idea of what he really wants to do with the rifle and can make a choice more suited than that

>>29136560
Not the same guy but maybe, if you have the means and are that undecided, you could go with two optics for different applications? I know it's hard to really zero in on an optic that's your dream do it all piece of gear
>>
>>29136619

Disclaimer: I only have the VX-R 1-4x.

Not just for this discussion, but is a 20mm lens really that much of an handicap at 6x? I haven't noticed any issues with low light in the evenings on a 4x.
>>
>>29136633

I hear you, but a $500 price increase just to jump from 4x to 6x still feels like poor value to me. I don't know if the cost is due to the lens or because it's a luxury item though.
>>
>>29136392
Ahh, the look of a fresh SCAR...I remember when mine looked like that...(although black). Now it's internals are perfect but it's scratched and worn in all sorts of places because I hike and camp with it so much. The internals are still beautiful though, despite the number of rounds I've put through it. I usually run a vortex 1-4x illuminated viper pst, or a $40 UTG red/green dot that's bulky and ugly as sin; yet has the most perfect circular dot I've ever seen, and I can't seem to break it. It was better than my Sparc II. Sometimes gun accessories are odd. odd.
>>
>>29136672
Just watched this video I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Not to sold on that kind of reticle but I guess it can grow on me. Also love how the sun really doesn't block it out.
>>
>>29136722
I see a lot of people talking about a vortex so I will be doing a little more research into them.
>>
>>29136710
You know, I'm on the 4x train and with the Leupold line I could have purchased a 2-7x for almost the same price as the 1-4x. I almost regret it now but it's fun to make it a little more challenging further out. Wouldn't mind the extra magnification though
>>
I wonder when fn will learn how to fucking mold plastic right
>>
>>29136686
I'm going off of when I had a Bushnell 1-8.5x24 and I guess maybe I am incorrectly extrapolating that towards smaller obj lense scopes. However in looking at the surface area between a 20mm and 24mm objective lense the 20mm obj lense has 69.5% of the surface area compared to a 24mm lense.

And in the case of my Bushnell 24mm compared to my Burris 28mm the bushnell has 73% of the surface of a 28mm lense which at higher magnifcation makes the picture quality noticeably darker. Imo it was so dark that it really made that bushnell a 1-7/7.5

I'm commissioning 2 new plants right now so that's a guaranteed year and another will be built within the next 2 years. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

I just got the Vortex Strike Eagle. I've read good things but personally haven't used it yet. Did I fuck up /k/?

>mfw I have a primary arms 4-14 on my scar
Have over 1500 rounds with it and it has held zero.Thought about upgrading but I just love the ACSS reticle so much. Maybe I'll look into their premium 1-8x. Made in Japan with a lifetime warranty.

>>29139698
Seconding this because I will be buying one tomorrow unless I'm stopped
>>
>>29139620
I'm 26.... we have a contract with the power company through 2022 or something like been working here for 3 year running coal.
